      Hey Could you help? I love to backspin with the echo effect. Is that bad?

    Lessons:
    1) Don't overuse the filter (Don't use the filter past the 2 O'clock mark)
    2) Don't overuse the effects (It's ok if the song is constantly flowing)
    3) Use loops on track A and B
    4) Be aware of your audience (play what they like at that moment)
    5) Don't leave empty spots = don't cut the frequency for both the tracks at the same time while introducing a new track

      Best lesson: Your sudience dont care about transitions or effects or anything else. It's all about music. It either sounds good (they vibe with it) or they don't, period

    OMG the pressing buttons and turning knobs constantly. So true. LOL. Just dance instead of overusing effects or feeling like you need to twist knobs!

    I never cut mids, if mids of tracks I’m trying to mix are clashing, I just find another track with mids going good on top of the previous track. I like house music and I like long mixes, because I love to hear both tracks playing in harmony with each other before I completely mix out the previous song. So when I’m mixing I only use highs and lows...

  • @simulation8083
    @simulation8083 4 роки тому +2

    Great stuff Phil. Really enjoying watching your videos. For me point 4 is the most important. A major part of the dj artistry is reading that crowd. I know a few brilliant technical djs who never miss a beat match but are so dull to listen to.

    • @keithchegwin1222
      @keithchegwin1222 Рік тому +1

      True, but it's even more common for DJ's that aren't technically skilled to say "it's all about reading the crowd" when in most cases they aren't good at that big either.

    I think regarding effects usage, they're more noticeable (and appreciated) during radio sets and "mixtapes". It's like you said; in clubs, it's barely noticeable (unless you go overboard. Then it IS noticed, and not in a good way).

      I mainly use effects for transitions. I seldom use them during playback of a track. As Phil mentioned, it is more of a distraction to the crowd if effects are overused during playback.
