These videos are getting me through it all! It's great to see what"s really happening verses what the news says. This is important documentation for the future. Great stuff. Stay safe out there!
I work near Washington Square Park at NYU and we are not going back to the office until much later in the year. There are some that are going back slowly, but for the most part, we're still remote and staying that way .
One great thing is the cleanliness of the subways and also the stations that you showed. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep the system closed from 1 to 4 a.m. and keep disinfecting the trains, not only as a precaution against a second outbreak (which itself would be reason enough), but as a permanent practice. Most metro systems throughout the world close in the wee hours, as far as I know. And it would be a great boon to the cleanliness and maintenance of the system.
Props to the MTA for the job they do cleaning the trains and platforms! The city will come back, but slowly I think. Hopefully there'll be more activity in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the video, AK.
In the world there are cities more beautiful than New York; but there is no guide better than you. You are the best! Thank! And take care of your health.
It's great to see R46 trains again on the N Line. I think that the reason why it is so empty is because I think people working in office settings will be working remotely for the time being. Also, many people particularly in hospitality are just not working at all. I think it will take a while longer for everything to bounce back to it's normal baseline self. hopefully a second wave doesn't hit New York City like it has already in parts of the country that may set things back. Let's hope that doesn't happen. Nonetheless great video!
Lots of office workers aren't going back until later this year or next; especially if their jobs can easily be done remotely (like in the tech industry). Not easy to socially distance in elevators, many offices aren't ready for workers to return and then there's issues with with air flow and ventilation in skyscrapers. It's the same story here in Chicago with most workers not returning to their offices Downtown and many working from home. Also, seems like lots are driving or biking since they're understandably worried about catching COVID from riding public transit as Ken said. Took a virtual bike ride through Amsterdam and it was about 3 times more crowded than NYC during a weekday afternoon. Not many wearing masks for some reason (with cases worryingly going back up globally too)... strange when smaller cities in Europe have more people out and about than Manhattan during rush hour.
I think New York (and it's vicinity) is near Herd Immunity actually. We didn't see the predicted spike from the protests, or it wasn't noticeable at all. Lockdown, etc. in March was too late and a huge number of ppl got infected already. Just that many Asymptomatic anti-body counts might be too low to be measured by these new tests. You only make lots of anti-bodies if your body needs that many. When everyone sees all these ppl hanging out in the streets with no masks and it doesn't spike noticably, they will come out too. Sure without a vaccine (might never work well), some more elderly will eventually be caught by straggling virus and die, but look at all the other walk vids. Ppl don't really care anymore. lol
@@jaredkushner5024 USA has 36.2% obesity rate. Netherlands has 20.4% obesity rate. As a reference, Vietnam has the lowest obesity rate at 2.1%, also ZERO COVID Deaths as of this post.
I'm in no rush to see subways crowded or at least fairy back to normal again. I was loving having empty to semi-empty trains. It was heaven, plus the trains were clean. I took the N around 2 pm today and there are more people than usual, or at least what we got used to.
In warm weather there is not much danger (under condition that they don't use faulty airconditioning), but if the temperature is between 5 and 12 degrees Celsius (40-50 degrees Fahrenheit) traveling in the metro is extremely dangerous.
Roodborst Kalf - that’s not really true. Look at what’s happening in Florida, a very warm climate, where Covid 19 is exploding right now among those 18-35 because they’re not socially distancing. Florida is about to become the new Covid capital of the USA
Today, 6/22/20 is the first day of phase II .....give it time, I am guessing that in a few weeks the population will be back close to normal. Stay safe Action Kid and thanks for another great video.
Dude, if you left your house at 9:03, rush hour is over! Rush hour riders are on the train from 7 am to 9 am, and 5 pm to 7 pm. You missed the boat on this one--or missed the train, I should say.
Thanks to you for making this video. This line you rode on will be a part of my list for the NYC subway ride when I visit NYC and probably spend a good week here. My trip could be in late 2021 or early 2022 if the borders are open. Greetings from Australia.
AK! I’m always excited to see you and for your amazing coverage. MTA, tried to cheat ya! Lol AK, You missed the rush hour for the 9-5 workers (they’re already at work) which would be around 7am. Thanks for the coverage
Great to see the Phases of opening New York City up. I am in Phoenix Arizona which is also going through phases of opening. Although, not as obvious from the street as New York, because of all the foot traffic in your city. Thanks for sharing!
Companies have to put up those plexiglass barriers between desks. Plus, they have to do a lot of cleaning, etc. It will probably be a while before most people return to offices.
Good evening action kid I will be on that same train this week going in to the city take care be careful stay safe god bless you thanks for your video I really appreciate that😷😷😷🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
I work in Manhattan coming in from the Lincoln tunnel plenty of traffic coming into ny in the morning somebody going to work.Trains crowded going uptown for weeks.
Reminder to keep your mask on your mouth even when recording a video because the subway cars are ventilated and the air is being recycled throughout the car. The virus is airborne. That being said, I appreciate these videos. I live in the city, but I miss the day to day norm (except the packed subway cars). :)
honestly i like the city like that ...so easy to walk around without getting bumped by tourist and bike messengers. but in reality it wont be NYC without it .
Maybe it will take time for businesses to rev up. They can't be expected to make the adjustment overnight. Don't forget, the decision to move onto phase 2 was taken very recently, without much notice. Companies that went through a lot to adjust to remote work may require some time to adjust back to office work.
just moved next to 36th ave station. wsup neighborino. I work in midtown east and get off at lexington, and my whole building is pretty dead. I work 1 to 2x a week in the office since phase 1 and wfh the rest of the week, will stay that way for like another month for us.
Hi from Brazil. I´ve alredy subscribed here!! Very good video, very good to training my english listenig. Here in Brazil, São Paulo where I live, is not allowed yet to go to office, even open restaurants, people are talking about reopen in next week. I believe here is goin to be the same as there, because people are not confident to walk around among crowded places, eve if is allowed. Thank you to share your New Normal.. I hope evereything becomes as were before, even better.
It's possible alot of the workers are in their offices and don't have the time to go out in the streets yet, you should check back at work closing time. What your lacking are the tourist. 😎✌️
2:51 New York City Stong? I thought the saying/slogan was New York Tough and Jersey Strong but yes they can be interchangeable since Manhattan is largely commuter.
most of the big firms are only allowing 3% to return to the actual building, everyone else WFH "until further notice" -- i think the plan is only 50% will return by year-end. For many WFH or Work from Anywhere will be a permanent thing.
Check the traffic on google maps between 4-5PM in any city in the country..... rush hour doesn't really exist anymore. Most people are still not working or working remotely now.
It’s also people leaving NY which is sooooo so sad and disappointing I miss the crowded trains and gum on the floor cause that’s NY but it’s also a lot lot of fun to have a whole cart on the subway to yourself tho. But it’s weird that there were more cars than people but I don’t mind. I want NY to be NY again and I can’t wait.
I’m the opposite😂 I love how you can see the end of the street instead of looking directly into people’s eyes or the back if their heads. I like how nice, clean, and peaceful it is now💕💕💕😷😷😷😷
Hey, I noticed that the OMNY(One Metro New York) contactless payment readers was available at your subway stop. Why did you not use OMNY instead of a metrocard for pay per fare rides? It’s a little less cumbersome and reduces the need to touch a machine when paying for a fare.
My honored fellow walker and good friend ActionKid, the scenics are at full wonder levels in NYC city of USA country. I am always in the mood to lay my eyeballs upon them and absorb fully.
People aren't going to work because, if they can, they are working from home (they are not using the subway). Cheaper for a company to let their employees work from home than to have them in the office. This has been widely reported in the NY press.
The whole situation is prigessivy more surreal, although familiar to anyone acquainted with the famous, and now seemingly prescient. works of Orwell, Huxley, etc. Stay tuned bc it's going to get a lot weirder. 'Loners' and the ultra-rich will be okay with it all, since life for them will be relatively unaffected.
a lot of these companies occupying the highrises have realized their workers can do a lot from home out of this, also the majority of subway riders were not making $504 unemployment with an extra $600 pandemic unemployment assistance a week for working all week before covid 19, it's when that ends you will see them back on the trains and buses working for less money than they get for sitting at home right now
No parking lots empty in NJT lots...streets are empty, the traffic is moving..Bad news for NYC. Hudson yards and millionaires row will have stalled projects
Sanitation workers are basically a life saver right now
Yeah they certainly are!
The Action Kid has been working full time. He , has earned a vacation !

So much respect to Newyorkers you beat that COVID curb great work people!!👍👍👍 great city 🌃

The seats and door are shiny. Never seen it like that
Yea no ones on the train. Do you think that has something to do with it. Duh!
I think they programmed the metro card machines to rip you off due to lack of riders, lol 😂
Facts one did rip me off took my 3 dollars
It's great to see New York coming back to Life, Awesome!!!. 😁✌️
Yes, its about time

Lack of 24/7 service is unsustainable in THIS city in the long run, though rotational line shutdowns seem to be better.
Props to the MTA for the job they do cleaning the trains and platforms! The city will come back, but slowly I think. Hopefully there'll be more activity in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the video, AK.
Too bad it took a virus for them to actually clean the subway... smh.. this city the worse
Great job Kevin! It will just take time for the City to find its rhythm.

How is Amsterdam more crowded? Probably because it wasn't hit as hard with punitive Coronavirus restrictions

The streets are practically empty!
Miss Bloomingdales so much.
This video is really helpful. Thank you.
Thank you AK! Your walks are essential for a lot of ppl. 💯❤️
Agree!

New Yorkers so nice saying wassup to the camera and I have seen New Yorkers buy cars cause they don’t want to ride the subway lol

I love NYC! Thank you for these videos! It makes me feel like I’m there. I live in San Diego, CA. Hope I get to visit again someday. Stay safe!💜
Great video, thank you, stay safe.

You're so brave to touch that screen with your bare hands!
Yeah, I would have used a tissue and then throw it in a garbage can.
Just had annual trip cancelled so extra thanks for your daily videos AK,much appreciated

My friend, plz wear gloves when touching those machines & on train.
Wearing gloves is retarded, you just touch more stuff and spread virus around 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Same thing I was thinking. 9am everyone already at their desks lol
TheAngels Mama exactly
I thought the same thing. Too late for office workers - don't they usually start at 9:00 AM?
Matt Thomas yes
What a fancy station

I've never seen the subway so damn clean. Phase 2 of reopening and also phase 2 of Covid 19.
Hot day good time for a bubble tea
Good to see the subway finally has contactless cards for entry, NYC caught up to London tubes.
Our tubes don't have air con though lmao. Sigh. Nothings perfect.
The most clean, and less people subway of NYC I ever seen.
You can´t believe this, if you haven´t seen.
Thanks to the workers of the subway company.
Thank you for this video, i am in Forest hills and still working from home indefinitely.
Good to know what's happening on the subways.
So happy to see everyone is wearing face mask on subway! Stay safe New Yorker!
I feel like Rip Van Winkle waking up 40+ years later and seeing what became of the city where I was born and raised. Wow. PS Thank you for this video.
the touch screen is damaged that's why it tried to charge u 33$
