How come in 24 years of being a christian I have never heard of the Testament of Noah, or the Testament of the Patriarchs? I have spent the better part of my life devoting to learning Scripture. But it is for God's glory these things make their way out into the world today!
I do not know enough about the guest to draw hard conclusions from one interview. But, in this particular interview, he did not speak, present his case, engage with the source material, present the material like a scholar. I'm not a scholar, so some humility needs to come from me on this. But I've seen enough biblical scholarship presented (including what I've received from Remnant guests) to say that this particular guest repeatedly answered questions by sharing his opinions and did not actually help us to engage with source materials. In fact, he seemed determined not to help us to engage with source materials. Your comment 100%. This is the most evasive guest I've ever heard, we didn't get any kind of biography, dissertation background, nothing. When they had Dr Matthew Bates on, we heard his testimony, his alma mater, his whole life. I found this Enochian material to be sensationalistic, manipulative, half-baked, and non-sourced. It's fascinating for sure, but any book by Dr James VanderKam would deliver less "original" information. Don't get me wrong, I like entertainment as much as the next guy, but turning the faith into entertainment is kind of gross.

Most of what he said made me think "huh, wow, can you cite the source?" or "can you tell us what the documents say that lead you to that conclusion?" He gave us none of that. He basically said, "here's what it said, trust me."
I have been following Dr. Ken's teachings for quite awhile now on utube as well as read some of his books. If you read his books you can see the extensive research he has put into the subject he presents. Don't expect a typical, intellectual type personality from Ken even though he has many years of research and study and an earned doctorate. He is very humble and presents himself as such. I recommend you all join his Monday night studies on youtube and see for yourselves and consider reading some of his books on the topics you question. God bless!
As far as I know Ken Johnson is self taught and goes to a calvary chapel church. He is a solid bible believing christian, but I believe he is a bit off in some of his stuff that he tries to teach regarding the calendar and trying to make things fit a certain way...

I have never found a more knowledgeable Dead Sea Scroll scholar. He does a weekly video on his UA-cam page and I never miss it, even if I can’t catch it live because I always learn something even having read many of his 34 books. Ken Johnson is an author and lecturer who speaks about a variety of issues related to Bible prophecy, ancient history, and the apostasy that will form in the church in the last days. He received a doctorate in theology from the Christian College of Texas, Texarkana, TX, in 1989. He has authored 34 books (as of 2022). He attends Calvary Chapel Johnson County in Olathe, Kansas with his wife, Dr. Donita Johnson.

I just accidentally discovered Ken a few weeks ago when I picked up his book 500 Fulfilled Prophecies (for the purpose of witnessing to an Israeli born Jewish friend- more accurately write out the timeline of God restoring Israel). I have gleaned SOOO many hidden gems from this brother! I really appreciate all of his hard work! One of my favorites was his explanation of Yeshua HaNatzari (Jesus The Branch = Jesus The Nazarene). I could never nail down exactly *which* prophet was being quoted in Matthew 2:23 when it says, “…this was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets: ‘He will be called a Nazarene’.” Zechariah 3:8-10 ❤ Natzar = Branch *********************** Also, the day after I discovered he had a UA-cam channel and listened to an introductory video about the Essenes (sons of Zadok), The Lord had me go back through Ezekiel 40-48 again. When I got to chapter 44…. what The Lord had to say about the sons of Zadok was…. incredible to me in light of Ken’s introduction to the Essenes. That “random” revisiting of Ezekiel 44 consistently stands out as a witness from The Lord to me to pay closer attention to this.
I love this man, what an awesome teacher. Through his work with the Bible, Dead Sea Scrolls, Testaments of the 12 and the early Church Fathers it’s quite clear to see that not only is Christianity correctly taught but you can see that a PreMil/PreTrib theology most closely lines up when compared to all the other systems of theology. I’m a relatively new Christian, this was the direction I’ve leaned since day one. But this info has really solidified it for me.

Let's play alphabet soup with the Bible. I like Ken Johnson, but so many people nowadays come in with what they believe and puzzle piece it together. He admits: The Septuagint matches most everything with what Paul says, the dead sea scrolls match most everything Paul says. Yet the Septuagint dates are off. Ok Ken, Why are the dates off? Anyone who has studied this and gone text critical knows the translation and manuscript stream with the LXX being the oldest manuscript evidence we have...the original article so to speak. So wrestle with that instead of dismissing the Septuagint because the Masoretic text dating fits your narrative. Don't get me wrong, so many teachers do this so I like Ken and have learned a lot and have nothing against him. Yet the very murky reality is that we don't really know the dating because there are various translation streams that contradict each other specifically with the dates and it is an ASSUMPTION that it is only the essenes that have preserved the truth and everyone else is corrupting or changing the truth. That assumption fits your narrative. I am not saying we don't have an authentic inerrant Word of God, we do have an authentic inerrant Word of God. Yet people try to shoe horn the dates in so it adheres to the 6,000 year timeline we want to have and we should be honest and understand we don't really know. My take is that the story of Jesus has been preserved so all could come to faith and believe and we can have confidence in this story, yet all along ha satan has been attacking the work of the Holy Spirit and the very Word of God as there have been moments in history in which various people groups have broken Deuteronomy 4:2 and Revelation 22:18-19. Reality is, The Septuagint has a place in Biblical history as a primary manuscript evidence to the story of God, Genesis to Revelation with parts of the apocrypha before gnostic additions; yet the western church primarily has discarded the oldest manuscript evidence we have to favor the Masoretic text and the thinking berean Christian asks why...that is textual criticism.
Hmmm... around 52 minutes, he says that the dead being raised is NOT prophesied in the Old Testament! There are actually quite a few passages that speak of the resurrection of the dead in the Prophets, particularly in Isaiah. The coming of the Eternal Kingdom of God to the Earth at the convergence of the physical and spiritual realms, and the Inheritance of the nations (mankind since Adam) by Christ (Head AND Body) is what I've been teaching on for the past several years. ☺
He’s referring to the masoretic version of the Messianic signs in the specific Isaiah list that Jesus quotes. It is missing the phrase “the dead are raised” , but Jesus quotes it, so whatever version Jesus was quoting had the phrase “the dead are raised” in that specific list. Turns out it is preserved in the Dead Sea scroll copies of Isaiah. Ken is one hundred percent in agreement that there are many passages generally in the OT speaking of the resurrection. He spent a lengthy time explaining that the Saducees were a cult because they did not believe in a bodily resurrection (near the beginning of the show)
Actually, he is literally not a scholar, just a lay person with a serious interest in the topic. Doesn’t mean he is wrong but not technically a scholar putting forward evidence in scholarly journals for debate and criticism.
Incredible information. Although I know there different versions of who The Teacher of Righteousness was according to the Qumran scrolls, they vary, there was a belief amongst them, a particular Teacher Of Righteousness would be Divine, I do believe the beauty of this information tears down the idea that modern Orthodox Judaism tries to make it seem as if, Jews from antiquity to now, were monolith. They accepted Christ, those who did because there was a conscious expectation in regards to the messiah, David’s LORD. And In the man of Jesus, some of those expectations were fulfilled for the first coming and the essenes confirm this in their works, writings.

The first Jewish Christians were Essenes. Jesus followed the Essene calendar for Passover ( solves an NT scholarship issue) and the Essene form for Passover - no lamb! He also enters Jerusalem through the Essene gate.
Weren't the first Jewish Jesus followers from the towns in and around Galilee, in Jerusalem and the towns around Jerusalem, and near the Dead See as well (but not limited to there). Then at Pentecost the Jesus followers expanded to include Jews that traveled to Jerusalem from all the nations where Jews had dispersed over the centuries ("every nation under heaven", ESV). Seems like the Gospels and Acts suggest that the first Jewish Christians came from everywhere that Jews had settled.
Yes some Jews in the time of Jesus were influenced by the Pharisees and some by the Sadducees, but a third party of influence were the Essenes. They did not all live by Qumran either, but could be found all over Israel. At leadt 4,000 lived outside of the Dead Sea area, some in Jerusalem where a gate was named after them. Jesus in his triumphal entry enters Jerusalem through the Essene gate! There are certain features in the life and ministry of Jesus that are common with the Essenes: rejection of luxury, using a common purse, sharing material goods to name but a few. There were also common theological themes: light and darkness indicsting good and evil; the term "sons of light"; belief in The Holy Spirit; messianic expectation and certain eschatological commonalities too. Again this is not an exhaustive list. Jesus celebrated passover according to the Essene date - a day earlier which answers all manner of theological issues. Because the Essenes rejected the Roman appointed priesthood of the era they also rejected sacrifices made by them. They celebrated passover without the lamb with bread and wine. There is no record of Jesus eating passover lamb but there is a record of him using bread and wine. There is plenty more in common besides these things - I hope this whets your appetite to delve a little deeper. I am sure Jesus had other influences from elsewhere and that he synthesised these into his own expression of faith as well. However Essene belief and practice are there big style.
This is one of the few guests that seems to be a little out there. Saying the essens lived twice as long as everyone else and that by being Christian we are all essens. Some seriously wild and unfounded stuff too like John the Baptist being an Essen when we have no record of that despite him saying the contrary. Just odd. I’m no expert but some of this stuff sticks up like a red flag to me.
I have seen an interview with Derek Gilbert where he outlines a case for John the Baptist having been an Essene. I wish I could remember who did that interview, so I could revisit it. EDIT: the interview in question was on a channel called "The Zach Drew Show" and it was called "Enoch and the Essenes: Interview with Derek Gilbert".
If you look at a map of Israel the theory that John the Baptist was a member of the Essene community holds up as plausible. The traditional site for his baptisms in the Jordan River is a place called, Qasr El-Yahud (on Israel side as the river is the border between Israel & Jordan & there's an equivalent baptism site on the Jordan side) Qasr El-Yehud is close to the Dead Sea & Jericho. The Qumran caves are about 11.5 miles from Qasr El-Yehud being further south, closer to the Dead Sea in a very arid part. These places could be travelled by walking

@@zionlionessence It is actually what the original church taught, so for me it’s hard to listen to people who aren’t Pre-Trib, but what I do is go to scripture review what they say and see why my belief differs from theirs. Many of the times I can see what they are thinking and they are confusing the rapture of the church with the resurrection of the Old Testament and Tribulation Saints, but I believe we are called to be Bereans, which helps me to do the extra step. Never take someone’s word for it, take it back to scripture.
The connection to Matthew 12:22-32 where Jesus explained to the Pharasees about blasphemy of The Holy Spirit makes a lot more sense after hearing the comparrison to the Esseans being continuists and the Pharasees and Saducees being cessassionists.

The Magi were from the Parthian empire. Yes they hsd links and knowledge of Judaism through the work of Daniel ( who was a Magi ) and the contemporary Jewish diaspora. NB for your Christmas/Epiphany illustrations/crib scenes the Parthians were expert horseman and would NOT have ridden camels. It was an equestrian culture. Camels were used for carrying cargo only. For a Parthian to ride a camel would be like a biker taking the bus. Also the history of Parthian interference in Judean affairs, deposing and electing priests. Let's play alphabet soup with the Bible. I like Ken Johnson, but so many people nowadays come in with what they believe and puzzle piece it together. He admits: The Septuagint matches most everything with what Paul says, the dead sea scrolls match most everything Paul says. Yet the Septuagint dates are off. Ok Ken, Why are the dates off? Anyone who has studied this and gone text critical knows the translation and manuscript stream with the LXX being the oldest manuscript evidence we have...the original article so to speak. So wrestle with that instead of dismissing the Septuagint because the Masoretic text dating fits your narrative. Don't get me wrong, so many teachers do this so I like Ken and have learned a lot and have nothing against him. Yet the very murky reality is that we don't really know the dating because there are various translation streams that contradict each other specifically with the dates and it is an ASSUMPTION that it is only the essenes that have preserved the truth and everyone else is corrupting or changing the truth. That assumption fits your narrative. I am not saying we don't have an authentic inerrant Word of God, we do have an authentic inerrant Word of God. Yet people try to shoe horn the dates in so it adheres to the 6,000 year timeline we want to have and we should be honest and understand we don't really know. My take is that the story of Jesus has been preserved so all could come to faith and believe and we can have confidence in this story, yet all along ha satan has been attacking the work of the Holy Spirit and the very Word of God as there have been moments in history in which various people groups have broken Deuteronomy 4:2 and Revelation 22:18-19. Reality is, The Septuagint has a place in Biblical history as a primary manuscript evidence to the story of God, Genesis to Revelation with parts of the apocrypha before gnostic additions; yet the western church primarily has discarded the oldest manuscript evidence we have to favor the Masoretic text and the thinking berean Christian asks why...that is textual criticism.

Hmmm... around 52 minutes, he says that the dead being raised is NOT prophesied in the Old Testament! There are actually quite a few passages that speak of the resurrection of the dead in the Prophets, particularly in Isaiah.

He’s referring to the masoretic version of the Messianic signs in the specific Isaiah list that Jesus quotes. It is missing the phrase “the dead are raised” , but Jesus quotes it, so whatever version Jesus was quoting had the phrase “the dead are raised” in that specific list. Turns out it is preserved in the Dead Sea scroll copies of Isaiah. Ken is one hundred percent in agreement that there are many passages generally in the OT speaking of the resurrection. He spent a lengthy time explaining that the Saducees were a cult because they did not believe in a bodily resurrection (near the beginning of the show)

Actually, he is literally not a scholar, just a lay person with a serious interest in the topic. Doesn’t mean he is wrong but not technically a scholar putting forward evidence in scholarly journals for debate and criticism.
Incredible information. Although I know there different versions of who The Teacher of Righteousness was according to the Qumran scrolls, they vary, there was a belief amongst them, a particular Teacher Of Righteousness would be Divine, I do believe the beauty of this information tears down the idea that modern Orthodox Judaism tries to make it seem as if, Jews from antiquity to now, were monolith.
They accepted Christ, those who did because there was a conscious expectation in regards to the messiah, David’s LORD. And In the man of Jesus, some of those expectations were fulfilled for the first coming and the essenes confirm this in their works, writings.

The first Jewish Christians were Essenes. Jesus followed the Essene calendar for Passover ( solves an NT scholarship issue) and the Essene form for Passover - no lamb! He also enters Jerusalem through the Essene gate.
Weren't the first Jewish Jesus followers from the towns in and around Galilee, in Jerusalem and the towns around Jerusalem, and near the Dead See as well (but not limited to there). Then at Pentecost the Jesus followers expanded to include Jews that traveled to Jerusalem from all the nations where Jews had dispersed over the centuries ("every nation under heaven", ESV). Seems like the Gospels and Acts suggest that the first Jewish Christians came from everywhere that Jews had settled.

Yes some Jews in the time of Jesus were influenced by the Pharisees and some by the Sadducees, but a third party of influence were the Essenes. They did not all live by Qumran either, but could be found all over Israel. At leadt 4,000 lived outside of the Dead Sea area, some in Jerusalem where a gate was named after them. Jesus in his triumphal entry enters Jerusalem through the Essene gate! There are certain features in the life and ministry of Jesus that are common with the Essenes: rejection of luxury, using a common purse, sharing material goods to name but a few. There were also common theological themes: light and darkness indicsting good and evil; the term "sons of light"; belief in The Holy Spirit; messianic expectation and certain eschatological commonalities too. Again this is not an exhaustive list. Jesus celebrated passover according to the Essene date - a day earlier which answers all manner of theological issues. Because the Essenes rejected the Roman appointed priesthood of the era they also rejected sacrifices made by them. They celebrated passover without the lamb with bread and wine. There is no record of Jesus eating passover lamb but there is a record of him using bread and wine. There is plenty more in common besides these things - I hope this whets your appetite to delve a little deeper. I am sure Jesus had other influences from elsewhere and that he synthesised these into his own expression of faith as well. However Essene belief and practice are there big style.
This is one of the few guests that seems to be a little out there. Saying the essens lived twice as long as everyone else and that by being Christian we are all essens. Some seriously wild and unfounded stuff too like John the Baptist being an Essen when we have no record of that despite him saying the contrary. Just odd. I’m no expert but some of this stuff sticks up like a red flag to me.
I have seen an interview with Derek Gilbert where he outlines a case for John the Baptist having been an Essene. I wish I could remember who did that interview, so I could revisit it. EDIT: the interview in question was on a channel called "The Zach Drew Show" and it was called "Enoch and the Essenes: Interview with Derek Gilbert".
He seems “out there” however John was Essene.
If you look at a map of Israel the theory that John the Baptist was a member of the Essene community holds up as plausible. The traditional site for his baptisms in the Jordan River is a place called, Qasr El-Yahud (on Israel side as the river is the border between Israel & Jordan & there's an equivalent baptism site on the Jordan side)
Qasr El-Yehud is close to the Dead Sea & Jericho. The Qumran caves are about 11.5 miles from Qasr El-Yehud being further south, closer to the Dead Sea in a very arid part.
These places could be travelled by walking
I have been to where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, he is actually very Biblically founded, he is legitimately the most knowledgeable scholar I have ever come across.
@@DiGi377 The biblical evidence of where John baptized Jesus was actually more north near the valley of Bashan which was known for ancestor and demonic worship, hence Jesus going into the wilderness right after, walking in the valley of the shadow of death, and resisting temptation. Not sure where the evidence for your location is founded.

I’d be careful with Joel Richardson, eschatology is not a salvation issue, make sure to be the Berean we are called to be.
When people preach pre trib rapture I always have a hard time taking them seriously.
@@zionlionessence It is actually what the original church taught, so for me it’s hard to listen to people who aren’t Pre-Trib, but what I do is go to scripture review what they say and see why my belief differs from theirs. Many of the times I can see what they are thinking and they are confusing the rapture of the church with the resurrection of the Old Testament and Tribulation Saints, but I believe we are called to be Bereans, which helps me to do the extra step. Never take someone’s word for it, take it back to scripture.

The connection to Matthew 12:22-32 where Jesus explained to the Pharasees about blasphemy of The Holy Spirit makes a lot more sense after hearing the comparrison to the Esseans being continuists and the Pharasees and Saducees being cessassionists.

The Magi were from the Parthian empire. Yes they hsd links and knowledge of Judaism through the work of Daniel ( who was a Magi ) and the contemporary Jewish diaspora.
NB for your Christmas/Epiphany illustrations/crib scenes the Parthians were expert horseman and would NOT have ridden camels. It was an equestrian culture. Camels were used for carrying cargo only. For a Parthian to ride a camel would be like a biker taking the bus.
Also the history of Parthian interference in Judean affairs, deposing and electing priests. That is why when the Magi pitched up at Jerusalem, Herod and all of Jerusalem were disturbed.
