- Step back in time and explore the enchanting 600-year-old English countryside home of Genevieve Harris, located in the picturesque countryside of East Sussex.
For more extraordinary home tours, visit our website: homeworthy.com
Originally from Canada, Genevieve's journey led her to this historic home, where her family has resided for the past six years. With a background in fashion and a passion for design, Genevieve embarked on a major restoration project to restore the classic English cottage-style home to its former glory.
As we wander through the charming interiors, we'll uncover tales of centuries past, including folklore that suggests King Henry VIII himself once stayed in the home. Every corner of Genevieve's home exudes a sense of history and timeless elegance. Enjoy!

A proper, proper home. It has been a long time since I have seen a home like this. No gimicks. No one is trying to keep up with the Jones's or the neighbours. I love this particular brand of confidence.
I like that - ".. this particular brand of confidence."
I agree wholeheartedly!!! ❤
Somehow I rather doubt that Megain Markle would have been happy here…or anywhere for that matter! 😂 I would move here in a heartbeat! ❤❤❤
@@treeannie8831don’t think for a second we are proud of her! 🙄 she’s an embarrassment
It all boils down to the bones of the house. With architecture like this, there’s no need to incorporate anything gimmicky, as it would only detract from the home’s provenance.
This house has character and charm already built into it: Inverness fireplaces, diamond leaded glass, arrowhead windows, wide plank and brick floors, heavy oak beams, a centuries-old larder, a chimney that meanders up a two- story height room…. The list goes on and on.
What I appreciate most is that the owners stayed true to the historic origins of the home. Rather than the decor “making” the home (or trying to compensate for poor design) it accentuates the pre-existing design elements. They avoided the pitfall of incorporating too-modern pieces which would be apt to compete with the nature of the building; choosing instead to create a cohesive design atmosphere.
Because they made sound choices, what they’ve incorporated enhances the inherent beauty of the structure - making a strong statement while allowing everything to shine.
I love seeing a home that doesn’t have brand new everything! I love seeing homes that are actually lived in, curated over time and genuine!
I love Genevieve, her family home and her overall style. She is true to herself, no "trendy" influence.
It is so nice to see a home that has not been ruined by renovation. The true character of the home shines through. Very enjoyable to watch!
In England old (what we call 'listed' buildings) can't be messed around with. Everything, window frames, all the fixtures etc have to be period, unless it's an absolutely essential repair and there is simply no other way of doing it, and even then you have to apply for permission. And if you just go ahead and do it anyway they will just come and rip all your work down then bill you for it. But old houses and buildings have to be maintained and repaired with period materials and techniques. It's simply to preserve the character of England, and more countries should do it. So many beautiful homes abroad have been ruined by 'one' utterly tasteless owner.
I really love these old English homes. More please 🙏🏼
Yes!!!! 😊
One of the rare homes on homeworthy, comfortable, functional and beautiful but above all meaningful with not an horrific trend in sight
Couldn't agree more.....I hate fashions and trends plus over contrived interiors that have been usually "done" by an interior designer.
I have noticed that about Homeworthy lately. So many of the homes cookie cutter from the last home. In fact, if the video features a house like that, I don't watch the video. This home is so unique and comfortable. No trendy stuff and Genevieve is lovely and down to earth. I loved her figurine story of the gin and tonic. I also love the green that she used on the woodwork. It brightened the home up and, I think, it said "Thank you, Genevieve for making me cozier".
I love this house, am both envious and delighted for her. Especially delighted because she and her husband saved it.
Those saying there are no trends are just not attuned to English upper middle class taste: there's Delft tiles, pooky wall brackets, ginger jar lamps, gathered lampshades, green window frames, mismatched chinz, even the sofa shape. That's all from the first seven bit minutes.
What a marvelous change from the impeccably upholstered and polished homes we so often get. This truly is a home in every sense of the word. As Genevieve herself said, nothing is too precious that puts you ill at ease. I truly felt I could walk in and plop down, kick my shoes off and feel 100% relaxed. It is as she planned it, warm, inviting and oh so cozy. Well done Genevieve! 💕👏💕👏💕
Oh my goodness... What an honor to live in a home with such history and timeless elegance. She is absolutely lovely and you can feel her warmth and love for her home. Thank you so much for this tour.
No thanks
You had me at Kent/East Sussex border. What a glorious home. I'm picturing it all through the changing seasons. It lives-- but only thanks to custodians like yourself. Ravishing. Such character. Thank you for taking such great care of it. 😍
That green phone is the bomb. Takes me back to my childhood.
One of my favorite homes that I've seen on Homeworthy. Love your decorating style and the fact that you kept everything in the period style rather than making it look modern inside. Fantastic job of bringing this gem back to life!
What a treat. English country houses are my favorite.
They're not all like this
Utterly sublime. Love the authenticity of the interior. No pretending or overdoing the Colefax and Fowler aesthetic. It was a complete pleasure and indulgence to momentarily transport oneself into this home.
Perfectly executed English Country House style....
The painting "The Serbian Dresses" is amazing. It drew my attention from the very beginning🤩🤩🤩
I love this picture, too❤
Bottom line - I LOVE when people *physically live their affinities. There's a vitality, flow, and happiness that is unmistakable. Love the soft green on the entry door, and the understated, low key surface presentation, generally. The house was cleaned and restored smartly, tenderly - keeping and honoring all idiosyncrasies. Genevieve is very alive and self-honoring, and her home reflects her depths and enthusiasms with same consistency. A good life.
Lovely home, rich with history and charm.
That Inglenook brick fireplace is jaw dropping gorgeous!!!! What character, what charm!!! The crown is such a unique piece. Love all the beams and diamond pane windows. But her sons room is off the charts incredible!!!! The high ceiling, the brick fireplace and the amazing windows. What a cozy little nest!
This is my most favourite Homeworthy home ever! Not "done" , just lovingly & perfectly put together. Relaxed, and elegant, yet so very livable. One of the few homes on this channel that has zero pretense. Love every inch of it. Finally a home where you don't need buckets of cash, nor a designer on speed dial to get the look.
How funny: When she explained her way of decoration and how she wants the house to be filled with the matching furniture to it etc. I thought maybe in a former life she must have been an english girl herself😉, because she did everything so beautiful and well. And then, later in the video, she tells us, that her mother and grandmother are english!! So she took in a lot from living with them😃 I really liked the tour of this cozy home! Blessings to her and her family and greetings from Germany 😊
Lovely to finally see a proper lived in and well loved home that doesn't look like a show home!. English homes are the best. TFS Genevieve!
I love this home so much! I live a house with such character. I would live here in a second. I love everything she’s done with this home. Just lovely
I'm in a big, dirty northern city, but 2 mins after you leave the urban sprawl you're into miles and miles of thatched cottages and jaw dropping scenery, and this is an industrial part of the country. I could never live anywhere other than England. To be born in England is to win the lottery of life, as 'they' say.
indeed 100%
This is my favorite home on Homeworthy. It’s the closest to my style and is so inspiring! The cabbageware is fantastic!
She spoke to my heart when she said how much she loved her knick knacks! My friends vilify me for them lol! Their utter distress at my eclectic "clutter" cracks me up lol. What a delightfully charming down to earth hostess! I cracked up laughing when she said her husband "told her off" about something she'd done, it was So cute. My English friend restored a farmhouse in the South of France, and he had the same sensibility of taste. Your home is so warm cozy and eclectic, just such a beautiful collection. I'm not a designer but I too have quite an eclectic home filled with metal, glass, porcelain, ceramics, wood, fabric and linens. Also I am African American so naturally I have several pieces of African art and wood sculptures. It's amazing how these things all mingle so well. I also collect English and Japanese tea sets. I'd like to think that my home also has a "soul" as she said. How quaint to put it like that, I never thought about that. I've been collecting from all the vintage and antique stores around me. I loved the way she emphasized how your home should reflect the inner You and should only be informed by magazine tastes. I loved this production, it's my favorite. The home and its Lady are really beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
I am so Sorry but why she’s showing this beautiful home, and excitement came over me when I saw the green vintage phone at 2:59 anybody see the green phone so cool🤣💚🔥
First thing I noticed. I want it.
@@virginiagallegos1379 First thing I noticed too!
@@denisefrandsen5106yeah 😃👊🏾
@@virginiagallegos1379 me too🤣👊🏾
It’s a beautiful phone. I had to watch it again 😊
Now, this is my kind of home!!! It's so warm and authentic! The homeowner is extremely interesting and lovely! Thank you for this delightful tour! ❤
This house is the epitome of a labour of love. Genevieve did a superb job of creating a comfortable, homey, slightly quirky restoration. Her colour choices are perfect. Love the Persian rugs. I’ve never been attracted to these sort of old houses, finding them oppressive & dark but I’m now a convert. This a truly soulful, inviting home. Brilliant job Genevieve!
such a lovely name, didn't realise what her name is. I love to see green colours in the homes posted by home worthy.
What a fairytale. Enjoy every minute of this dream ♡
This house is a house after my own heart. I love everything in it and I love Genevieve. She is a lady with wonderful taste in her personal style and her decor. She doesn't take herself too seriously and she exudes warmth and humour. She's the sort of woman I could be friends with. This is my favourite home so far and I enjoyed the tour enormously, thank you.
PS Beautiful dog!
Wonderful! A fairy tale home!
This is the type of home I dream about! Nothing excessive or flashy, but with so much character and charm. Gorgeous house!
What a beautiful home with wonderful collections. I am so glad this home was saved. What a history. Thank you so much for sharing.
Love thrifting and antiques too! Happy to see a transplanted Canadian 😊!
Wonderful in every way. And what a warm, charming lady. Thank you so much!
I enjoy how they worked with the house and let it be, without trying to “make it new.” I also love how the British decorate, so cozy with the different patterns and colors.
It’s a listed building, so they wouldn’t have been allowed to even if they’d wanted to.
Thank you for being a family that protects the history of these homes.
What a wonderful tour!! I love how they restored this fabulous home instead of renovating. Gorgeous!! Love the beautiful English country, yet eclectic style!! 😍
She has such a beautiful style - so simple but yet so chic! Her house is just beautiful and I love the big painting of the 2 ladies in the drawing room!
This home, along with its lovely hostess, Genevieve, is on my top 10 Homeworthy Faves list! Adore it!
The sword is a wonderful touch! A British Pattern 1822 Infantry Officer’s Sword-love it!
Didn't notice it. Is that the pattern that was more of a traditional heavy curved sabre than the later ones, or is the 1822 the straighter (thrust and slice) style?
Your friendly warmth is reflected in your home, and it is lovely to see the history preserved alongside all the personal touches of modern family life. Thanks for sharing this with us all.
Such a beautiful and cosy home. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Genevieve, After years of watching Knick knack chit chat it was a gift to tour the home whose kitchen is so familiar. 🩷
What a beautiful house…. It’s so lovely to see a house that is not all beige and grey.
Beautiful ❤

The house found itself the perfect new owners who respected it!!!

My nanna used to pick hops as a child, I have photos of her in the fields in Kent.
Wow, what a dream home, so homely. Love the green. Hope to swap my 1930s semi for a country cottage once my children have flown the nest.

I was enthralled with your home & commentary! I especially loved the cheery yellow in the kitchen. May we revisit your home at Christmas? 😁
Fairytale style...love the fireplace!
A lovely person in a lovely Home!
She is so natural!!
Beautiful home. I immigrated to the US from England when I was 20 and have been here 15 years now and still sound the same. I wonder how long this lady has lived in England for her voice to be a blend of English and Canadian accent. She has a great eye for beautiful things ❤️
What a lovely lady and her home reflects who she is….warm and charming. A welcoming place to family and friends
Love this house and style. Totally relaxed and charming. Far more interesting than most shown so far. Probably biased but the UK homes you show seem to appeal more, I wonder why? Thank you for your channel and all the hard work in research and filming.
Wow...this home is absolutely amazing!!!n I've been following you on IG for years!!
