Please react to "Word Crimes" from this same album. It really showcases his impeccable diction and voice clarity in a faster song, which has the added benefit that its not creepy and awful like the original lyrics.

Back in the 80s, Weird Al was HUGE in geek circles and has always been. Seriously, it's hard to overstate how popular he was among the geek crowd. He is one of the very few artists who I will buy a new album of his without hearing a single song off it because I *know* it's going to be great... and that's been true since the 80s.
Hell yeah. in the late 70's or early 80's, I would listen to the Dr. Demento show on the radio every week and that's where I first heard Weird Al. Loved him from the first song I heard. The great thing about Dr. Demento was that he opened me up to a whole new world of funny radio, not just Wierd Al. Great acts like Kip Adotta, The Frantics, Joe the Love Potato, and so many others. I still have some cassette tapes I made from back then.
Yeah, I've been pretty obsessed with Weird Al since I was a kid (I've been a geek/nerd practically my whole life). I have mixed feelings about his popularity now. He deserves it, of course -- he should have been huge from the beginning. But now Weird Al is no longer a hidden treasure that geeks and nerds can appreciate and find camaraderie with.

@@SimoExMachina2 I would have suggested "Dare to be Stupid" from the same album. But come to think of it there are classics that have stood the test of time on the first two albums. eg. "Eat It"
The thing to keep in mind is while that Al is huge in the USA, that is pretty much the only place (and judging by his world tour locations also Canada). Sure, he has his fans in other countries as well, probably a few more in countries where English is either primary or a common second language (Canada, UK...). But people outside the US are far less likely to have heard of him, especially since his real boom (from my understanding) was the 80s and 90s. Not implying that he's not doing extremely well still of course, but that's when he had his own show and movie and all that.
Congrats on discovering Weird Al. It's good that you started with The Saga Begins because that was a good showcase for his voice talents, which are often overlooked because of his clever lyrics and video. This parody shows off more of his creativity. Others show off his dancing and rapping skills. He truly is multi-talented, which is so rare.
One minor correction. He didn't "do" his hair for this. That's just his hair. I think you should also check out "Since You've Been Gone." It's not a cover or parody, but an original a capella song done in the 50's do-wop style.
I love that one from his Bad Hair Day album. My favorite painful example was "shove a red-hot cactus up my nose," but the best part is the punch line at the very end.
Oooh, love me some Weird Al in the morning. Especially mixed with Beth. Please take a look at Weird Al's Word Crimes. It is absolutely hilarious and amazingly clever. You'll love it, i'm sure.
Fun bit of "Weird Al" trivia: Weird Al is one of only _5_ artists to have 4 Billboard Top 40 hits across 4 decades (the others being Kenny G, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and U2). That's at least one top 40 hit in each of the '80s, '90s, '00s, and '10s. Although arguably, Kenny G and Michael Jackson snuck in on technicalities (their music being included in a modern track via sample).

Weird Al is the OG that hundreds or thousands of UA-camrs have attempted to emulate. Everybody knows his comedy chops, but he's actually a versatile singer as well, as he demonstrates across a wide variety of pop/rock/rap/showtunes/younameit musical genres. Well done Beth!

I'd love to see more reactions to Weird Al. I don't think he's ever done a bad parody. And his videos are spot on with the original artists' videos. Especially the ones of Michael Jackson.
He's done some bad parodies, including one he admits was bad -- His Cyndi Lauper parody Girls Just Want to Have Lunch. He was forced by his record label to do a parody of Lauper because of how huge she was at the time. So he was forced into doing that parody and because of that it's not that good.
So fun to see someone discover "Weird Al" for the first time. "Weird Al" will be your deepest and most fun rabbit hole journey. Put all his videos on post-it notes and stick them to your wall. Then blindfold yourself and throw a dart. Guaranteed you'll hit a great song, whether it's a parody or original (of which he has many).
Beth, I was listening to Michael Mcdonald again (Doobie Brothers, occasionally Steely Dan). His voice is astounding and he seems to keep his warm, dark chest voice sound all the way up into his highest notes. And he is a tenor but has a warm bass-like resonance. I really want you to do a show on his voice . Maybe "What a Fool Believes".

There is a video of MJ's "Bad" and Weird Al's "Fat" side by side - as his video is almost a shot by shot recreation. I think anyone in a cover band can appreciate the genius of Weird Al. So great.
Most don't know that Weird Al also makes original songs. For all the fun I recommend Horoscope for the Day and Truck Driving Song. You can trust me, I live in Albuquerque..................
Weird Al is probably one of the greatest songwriters in history, and having had the pleasure of seeing him live in Glasgow a few years ago, I can confirm he and his band are some of the greatest showmen too. Also worthy of note is that his band has been pretty-much the same throughout his career - he joked that the keyboard player was "The new guy", as he ONLY joined in 1991. I heartily endorse you do a reaction to his song Albuquerque from the Running with Scissors album. There's no official video, but various folks have uploaded it to UA-cam, including a few live renditions
He’s a very underrated vocalist and he’s gotten better over time. He’s not so much an impersonator, but he’s able to shift tones to remind of the original vocalist.
Your reaction videos are an incredible treat. I love it. This one and your first Weird Al reaction had me in tears you're so joyful to watch. No kid in my elementary school didn't know who Weird Al was, he was very much a huge part of the 90s at least in my circle growing up. Wonderful thank you:)
Fun (and cool) thing about Weird Al.. He always asks the artists before making the parody! And they are all so well thought out. They're not rude or nasty, they're just clever and fun :D
Hello Beth, love seeing the weird al songs here. I want to tell you just how big he is here. MASSIVE. He has been a huge star for 40 years, he is way more then a parody guy. though of course that is his format. However the two songs you picked do not showcase his talents. Kirk Cobain said, You know you made it when weird al does your song. So i give you 3 songs for you to watch off video. "Bob", as is bob dylan (watch the signs closely) "Word Crimes" attention on grammar. "White and nerdy" just for fun and range, just beating out "all about the Pentiums". Al is a class act and has done every major artist/bands including Queen.
Weird Al is just a genius from writing to planning it out but what really impresses me is the fact that he's able to closely mimic the singing style of any singer that he is parodying because he does so many different styles and of course each singer has their own vocal format and he's able to really do a solid impression of those different formats which I find really really impressive
It was so fun to watch you enjoy first listens to someone I've listened to for forty years. Combine amazing musical talent from him (and his band) with total commitment to whatever part he is playing in any song. The direct parodies are what made him famous but his many "style parodies" or just plain original comedy songs are a treat as well.
Weird Al is also one of the most genuine nice people. I have met him a couple times and he's always just so friendly. You'd never guess he was a celebrity.
I have often felt that Weird Al is one of the great artists of the modern era - not because I love his songs [though in general I do] but because he manages to copy so many styles of singing and also he matches so many music videos scene by scene but with the change to the new interpretation. He has done some amazing parodies of Michelle Jackson and so many others.
Oh man, I remembered Patton Oswalt as the director, but I completely forgot about Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Dangle and Junior from Reno 911) as the Men in Black. Love this parody, and love your reaction!
The video had a copyright issue, so there are some censored videos of it without the credits included. That means some jokes don't make sense in the censored version.
Weird Al is the greatest. Period. I saw him on this tour and brought a big roll of aluminum foil with me so everyone around me could make ourselves hats
As previously said it's always fun to see or be present when someone discovers Weird Al. He's been at the very top of the spoof genre for decades. There's no one close. My favorite album title is even funny! "Running With Scissors"
Hey Beth, he's barely scratched the surface of his genius. You don't have to listen to him all but just Google his catalog. It will blow your mind. that was fun You're awesome raaaaaaar❤️💚☘️
This man is a legend. The GOAT of parody. It's said that an artist hasn't really "made it" until Weird Al does a parody of their song. Now that you've seen a couple of his songs, I would love to see you react to: Living With a Hernia Like A Surgeon Germs Hardware Store Actually, ALL of his work, but that would take a bit of time. He's been doing this since the late 70's, early 80's.
If you're going to react to more Weird Al, please give "Hardware Store" a listen. I think it's legitimately amazing. The artistry and technical skill is just off the charts in that song.
You've got to react to Big Mama on Killing Voice. Amazing vocals and harmonies. These ladies are great vocalists in their own right, bot together they're magic.
I'm so glad you've discovered Weird Al. I think you'll freak out if you react to Weird Al's style parody of The Doors. It's called Craigslist and he does Jim Morrison, spot on!!
I still have his cassette tapes!! Can’t let them go. He’s fantastic! I think the first song I ever heard of his was “I Love Rocky Road” and parody of “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll”. Instant fan.
Weird Al has an uncanny ability to perfectly imitate the cadence and sound of anyone he parodies. Everyone is telling you the various songs to listen to next. If you're interested check out the songs he's parodying first then Weird Al's version then realize he does that every time. He's even developed serious skill as a rapper. As for my suggestion for next song, try his version of Classical Gas. You'll be amazed
Weird Al is also one of the best musicians to grace the airwaves. He and is band (whose drummer has been with him since the 70s, see Another One Rides the Bus for first performance together) can flawlessly change to any genre- rap, country, pop, folk, grunge, etc.
Weird Al is the Goat of parody, no question. But I'd like to say I think you are my favorite reactor and I've looked at a lot of them, almost anybody whos ever featured Angelina Jordan. You always give just the right amount of critique and analysis and are always so cheerful and really seem to thoroughly enjoy what you are doing.
Weird Al's parodies are great because he doesn't just come up with a funny concept that rhymes with the chorus. He hews to every part of the song to really fashion his parody. In this song, when he switches gears and says "By the way, I've cracked the code," the original song says, "My friends and I? We've cracked the code." That little line that didn't make a huge difference in the tone of the original became a brilliant twist to the parody that still held true to the theme of the song.
I loved how you can see the whole second verse came from Al going "Why does she say 'by the way I cracked the code?' That seems so melodramatic... and then bringing it back to FOOOILLLLL~ (foooiiilllll~)
Beth: "This just seems such good advice"
Weird Al, a bit later: "Oh by the way, I cracked the code..."
That's how they rope you in, by seemingly being logical... 😂

He's such a goofball loved by all. And so damn talented.
Watching you enjoy this and realize how genius Weird Al is makes my week. Thank you!
One thing I like is how his backup singers show their professionalism by rolling with the change in narrative direction...
Weird Al Yankovic is a Legend and should get a Grammy every year just for being so Awesome. 👍✌❤
"I feel like this is...really good advice!"
Oh Beth...just wait
This is awesome seeing you discover Weird Al. I think though you'd really enjoy Word Crimes, just feels like a song I think you'd love a lot.
He really is a treasure. Smart, funny, nice.
Saw him once, great show, same band for years. Love him!!
The ladies with the BIG hair are a special touch. Mad good skills. Al is the GOAT of parody. He has endless talent.
You are adorkable, and I love ya for it. Keep up the great reactions!
Mr. Yankovic does, indeed, have fabulous locks.
Oh man, I remembered Patton Oswalt as the director, but I completely forgot about Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Dangle and Junior from Reno 911) as the Men in Black. Love this parody, and love your reaction!
For anyone that doesn't know, Patton was the voice of Ratatouille. He's been doing comedy for decades.
Maybe you should try one of his non-specific parody songs. My favorite is "One More Minute." He parodies 50's vocal groups.
I think it is funny that everyone who does a reaction to this song always pauses the song right after Al says "a refreshing herbal tea."
I think you will really appreciate Weird Al's opening song to Spy Hard. He does something at the end that will blow your (and his) mind.
The video had a copyright issue, so there are some censored videos of it without the credits included. That means some jokes don't make sense in the censored version.
Please react to more Weird Al Yankovich, I love his parodies. His versatility is amazing.
Weird Al is the greatest. Period.
I saw him on this tour and brought a big roll of aluminum foil with me so everyone around me could make ourselves hats
That is some dorky nerd shite and I wish I had been there to join in!
Yessss we need more weird al reviews!!
He is great
As previously said it's always fun to see or be present when someone discovers Weird Al. He's been at the very top of the spoof genre for decades. There's no one close. My favorite album title is even funny! "Running With Scissors"
On top of his quick wit and comedic timing, they say that he is one of the nicest people to his fans
Hey Beth, he's barely scratched the surface of his genius. You don't have to listen to him all but just Google his catalog. It will blow your mind. that was fun You're awesome raaaaaaar❤️💚☘️
Love you Bethroars! So happy when I see u react to stuff I like! You are great!
You would really enjoy "Word Crimes". If you do, pay attention to every word of the lyrics. Pure genius!
A musically inclined wordsmith, don't find that often enough
Word Crimes is simply genious. I have never seen anything quite like it. Amish Paradise too - you don't have to know the original to enjoy them.
I love seeing people discover Weird Al. The man is loaded with immense talent.
This man is a legend. The GOAT of parody. It's said that an artist hasn't really "made it" until Weird Al does a parody of their song.
Now that you've seen a couple of his songs, I would love to see you react to:
Living With a Hernia
Like A Surgeon
Germs
Hardware Store
Actually, ALL of his work, but that would take a bit of time. He's been doing this since the late 70's, early 80's.
Living with a Hernia! Germs! Great parodies of different singing styles.
You can do that ! We'd love to see you make a genius parody cover and to dance in future . We love you so much Beth ! Love your vocal intros too
If you're going to react to more Weird Al, please give "Hardware Store" a listen. I think it's legitimately amazing. The artistry and technical skill is just off the charts in that song.
You've got to react to Big Mama on Killing Voice. Amazing vocals and harmonies. These ladies are great vocalists in their own right, bot together they're magic.
Handy is my new Weird AL fave, but Amish Paradise is a close 2nd.
I'm partial to "All About the Pentiums" myself. But, really, you can't go wrong with any of them.
I'm so glad you've discovered Weird Al.
I think you'll freak out if you react to Weird Al's style parody of The Doors. It's called Craigslist and he does Jim Morrison, spot on!!
obvious have 30 years of AL left to check out, although first time seeing myself and was suprised how accurate his parody was about the world
I still have his cassette tapes!! Can’t let them go. He’s fantastic! I think the first song I ever heard of his was “I Love Rocky Road” and parody of “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll”. Instant fan.
You need to do his song "Hardware Store"!!! It has a 30-second segment that was done in one take in a single breath. It's incredible
He and is band (whose drummer has been with him since the 70s, see Another One Rides the Bus for first performance together) can flawlessly change to any genre- rap, country, pop, folk, grunge, etc.
your expression when it changes: priceless! :D
I hope you do his Word Crimes. Great channel.
As long as it makes you happy and smile it's great because Beth is so pretty when she smiles
Weird Al's rabbit hole is filled with party and wit! You would enjoy it
"He who is tired of Weird Al, is tired of Life" - Homer J. Simpson.
Please do more Weird Al songs, he really is an amazingly gifted performer and comic genius. His non-parody songs are great too!
Gotta love Weird Al! I'd heard the song, but had never seen the video until now.
I loved how you can see the whole second verse came from Al going "Why does she say 'by the way I cracked the code?' That seems so melodramatic... and then bringing it back to FOOOILLLLL~ (foooiiilllll~)
