I got mine about 6 weeks ago. I've done nearly 2000 kms in Sydney and am averaging 4.9 litres/100kms or 1000+ kms per tank !!. I realise that it will depend on each individual driver and your location as to what your actual fuel efficiency will be but if you use the 'pulse and glide' strategy then your consumption will be excellent. It's very smooth to drive, the rear suspension is so good over bumps and the media is very good too, intuitive and fast. Unless you're rich think about whether you really need the AWD and the extra weight because that will affect fuel effciency too. I bought the Elite FWD in shimmering silver and i reckon it looks better than the N Line.
I also signed up for one. It was still on the boat when I signed the contract! I hope to take delivery I the next few days. I’m currently in a 2016 Hyundai and when I went for a test drive it was an unsettlingly huge improvement in driving experience. And I was driving a trim level with les options than I will get. I’m beside myself with anticipation to get to know my Tucson!
From you signing while it was on the boat to getting the keys, what was the wait time? I just signed this week and the cars on the boat too. @fiftycalguru
About three weeks for me there was a manufacturing error the dealership had to fix. If not for that it would have been two weeks. The boat was already in port.
Bought the top spec Highlander diesel awd brand new a few months ago. I’d waited til I’d heard the specs of the hybrid facelift model before making the decision. Although the hybrid makes an extra 35kw, it’s down 66nm on torque which I think is more usable in a medium suv. Also the hybrid gets the 6spd auto whereas the diesel got the better 8spd torque converter auto? Yeah the hybrids fuel economy is a bit better but where I am in Sydney diesel can be 20-30¢ cheaper per litre. I think if you can get a diesel Tucson runout deal that’d be the best buy, I got a demonstrator with 40km on it for $53k drive away with a runout deal and free on road costs. Only thing I’d prefer from the facelift model is the new infotainment screen but not worth the extra ~$12k.
With the current drive away offers, the Tuscon Elite 2.0L is the sweet spot for me. Whilst the 2.0 may not be the best of engine options, and I have driven both it and the 1.6T, the roughly $5k difference, as at 4 Dec 2024, does make that 2.0 a little more compelling. Really, unless one is doing track days, which many reviewers seem to act is the case when they talk about engine performance, driving around Orange NSW, including on the Mitchell highway, yesterday, it did a good job in my books. I also don't understand why people have an issue with CVTs, I certainly didn't notice any problems driving in my normal manner.
Great review. Your review of the new MINI Countryman was one factor in my decision to buy one. 4 months in and with it’s glitchy software, I’m having second thoughts and even test drove the new Tucson Hybrid last week…. I liked it. Of course, that doesn’t mean it will be immune from software and mechanical issues but I believe this is the 2nd gen of this hybrid? Amazing that the Australian version gets a longer wheelbase!
Thanks Angus. Sorry to hear you've had issues with the Mini! So much tech packaged in, I'm actually not surprised. But yes, there has been a hybrid like this in the Santa Fe before, but not in Tucson (in Australia, anyway). Thanks for commenting!
Great video, I’ve been waiting for this. Test driving hybrid awd this weekend. Would have bought a Sealion, but the BYD dealership was a shitshow, and I had real doubts about aftercare. BYD need to sort that out to really make it here.
Yeah they haven’t had the best start in terms of showrooms and management of the flow of traffic. And also after sales. But they’re in cahoots with a big dealer group and they won’t stand for failure.
I seriously doubt BYD will be sold in NZ much longer. Unfortunately, all EV, including Tesla and Phev, have tanked here. Most EV sellers have slashed prices by up to $30k! Only a single Ora Cat has sold this year! And now they are practically giving them away. I remember when we were looking at getting a BYD Dolphin that the dealer said BYD would never discount, well that was true until sales of BYD dropped below 10 nationwide per month. Now they have slashed prices. MG so far has not really dropped their prices, and it shows as just 3 MG4 sold in June!
Test drove one today and was quite impressed. More refined and way better tech than the RAV4. I was also interested in the Honda CRV which isn’t mentioned in this review. Shame the Honda doesn’t have a hybrid option in lower trim models and it also has no spare tyre.
Believe it or not, US versions don’t get a spare wheel of any kind, just an empty space with a screw down hole for a spare but that’s it! I don’t think they even have grocery bag hooks. ( test drove the hybrid last week and didn’t see any)😊
This is a nice interior. I’m not a big fan of the exterior, but would consider the 2025 Tucson. The only question is, how reliable are they compared to the RAV4, Corolla Cross or the Z-RV/CRV??
You say that you can feel it shifting gears in EV mode. I have the hybrid and I can guarantee that you can’t. When in EV mode, the ICE isn’t engaged so it’s not shifting through gears. I think you’re confusing with sport mode where both the ICE and motor are being used to maximise performance.
For anyone considering the Hybrid awd. I have a 2022 and this IS a terrific driving and designed SUV and is loaded with great tech. You WONT be disappointed
Looks like possibility they have dumped that annoying unnecessary (ANCAP Australia) driver monitoring system? Just left with the stupid speed system also not required by ANCAP Australia (so far)
Bit hard going on what the system uses to start the ICE part ... looking on the net to me looking like a starter alternator that uses a belt driven setup.
I really hope Hyundai can introduce the 1.5T Mild Hybrid version on both FWD and AWD configurations to replace the 2.0NA and the old 1.6T engine. The hybrid and upcoming PHEV versions may still be too expensive for some buyers, and budget-focus buyers deserve a fuel-efficient option from every brand, which results in introducing a mild hybrid engine as the best choice.
So, a panel of ANCAP “experts” deem we need the bing bongs, which we no doubt pay for. Then, based upon everyone turning them off a manufacturer has come up with a simple way of turning off the very systems required to pass the new safety standards so manufacturers can still get 5 stars even if they technically don’t pass with the annoying “safety” systems disabled.
