I'm a Womack from Nashville, so we're pro'ly distant cousins :-) And I've got a book on the Airknocker C-3 that was published by the Air&Space Museum. The C-3s were often referred to as "Flying Bathtubs!"

What I'd give to fly in one. My Grandpa used to fly out of Legg Airfield in Coldwater MI in the late 30's in one of these beautiful airplanes. The flying Bathtub is what he called it. Simple can still put a big smile on your face, I have a dual sport motorcycle and a minibike, which gets the same sized smile out of me if not bigger. Thanks for keeping history alive!

Imagine flying a 90 year old aircraft with zippers on the main wings. You can even follow the aileron wiring almost all the way from the stick.

Pretty thin wiring at that!! Pretty cool stuff.

A very wonderful plane to fly! Wonderful feel on the controls! A little faster than a J-3 Cub too!

I heartily agree. The very first real private airplane for the general public. I mean worldwide too! Aeronca sold themin droves overseas.
Back then, a community airport had a C-3 they used for training new pilots. One was a very upright Christian minister. Many of his congregation thought it was unseemly that he was flying an airplane. But his grade school students (the boys anyway) thought him an absolute John Wayne hero.
My grandfather, a pilot of the old school cloth (RIP) loved to tell the story of when he and a buddy wanted to go flying in a C-3 on day, though there was a stiff winter gale blowing. They got airborne just fine -- but the plane reached about 100 feet up, mid-runway (grass-strip), but then simply could not make headway into that wind. They tried for a few minutes but no go. So, they carefully throttled back, lowered the C-3 back onto terra firma and taxied back to the tarmac -- to the utter delight of the other pilots who had watched the whole show!

What a beautiful airplane! Only 36 horsepower! Gorgeous in it's simplicity. Great flight video with the engine hanging out there in the breeze, btw. I love the zippers on the wings! 👍

What a great little airplane, it’s really too bad there aren’t more of them still around not that I could fly one of them, I probably weigh too much for it, but it would be fun to try. 👍🏼😃

      No.
      It is too heavy.
It has too high of a stall and cruising speed.
And it is technically a two-seater.

No offense but I was taught it is pronounced with only three syllables.....as in " air on ka "( with the accent on the middle syllable ...I was born and raised back in the 1950's only a block away from Piper aircraft corporation in Lock Haven,Pennsylvania and can remember watching many ,many cubs and later super cruisers land and take off every day.....literallyright over my house. .the Piper memorial airport still operates for general aviation....but alas the once great factory that built so many cubs now sets ghostly quiet.

3/32 inch stranded control cable wires aren't very robust. You can purchase 3/32 inch stranded picture hanging wire. I think I would have resto-moded it to 1/8 inch control cables and pulleys. 🥸
