Hey Dan, I know this is an old video, but If you see this, I'm curious if you can remember if I would be able to keep my larger pocket instead of the one they supply if mine is working properly. Im considering buying this Metra kit because there are no other options and online resources are scare haha. Thanks in advance.
i don't know if the original pocket made by Mazda fits, I honestly removed the metra pocket and just kept the empty space (although not as pretty) for extra storage.
They're under a cardboard cover across the back. If I remember right, the speaker grille is built into that same cardboard-like carpeted cover. To take it off, you have to put the rear seats down and access bolts etc. The lazy man's way though, if you don't care about perfect... is to remove the grilles themselves, unscrew by angling a short screwdriver to each hole, pull your old speakers out, replace... then put new (in my opinion better looking) grille's over top.
