#Bananarama #LongTrainRunning #PopLife
Pop Life really is one of the greatest, most underrated albums ever made.
Professor of Rock brought me here. I had _zero_ idea Bananarama covered this. Only took me 33 years.
Me too. The professor sent me!
beat me to it!
Same story w/me
So did I....😮
I'll never forgive him for this
I love the harmony of their voices on this song. So smooth.
Harmonies are what made them. They made Muzak music cool again. It was Muzak with a pop/rock twist
Jacquie was technically their best singer
Wow! This is a very nice cover. I have to admit, I'm surprised but this very enjoyable. Their harmonies are stunning!
It was very difficult to perform their songs live. They used all their voices for the melody line, and they did the harmony tracks
Stunning music, incredible voices, and spectacular visuals!
This is way better than I thought it would be. First time listener.
I LOVE their cover version!!! Bananarama ROCKS!!!
Such a great cover of Long Train Running. And that Spanish guitar is amazing- baile todos!
All three ladies look amazing
Love Bananarama, and love this version
I like this. Love the Gypsy Kings. I'm a big Doobie Brothers fan and LOVE the original 1973 version, but this version is very good. Great vocals and really enjoy the flamenco interpretation.
Great remake...made this one sound so much better.
I love the Doobies. I love the original version. But this is GREAT. A terrific interpretation by three very talented ladies.
Just heard this on the BBC. Great cover. They should have released it as a single
greatest female act god so good
I absolutely love this!
What a gem!!!
the song is so haunting in their voices.
Bananarama done a great job with this cover version I love this version as well as the original by the Doobie brothers
Best version of Long train running nice gypsy flavour.
That is exactly one side of the real talent of Bananarama, to take on a classic song, by elevating it and make it sound fresh and sometime even more enjoyable than the original. They did that brilliantly with Venus and they did it again with this one. Such a putty, that it did not chart that high as Venus
YES; AN AMAZING VERSION
Totally agree! To me “Help!” is a similar example. I don’t like the Beatles’ original, but love the Bananarama version.
@@egonhuber4649 I absolutely agree with you, I enjoy Bananarama's version of help a lot, whereas I am not so fond of the original version. These girls know how to cover songs beautifully
@@triadafillos1 right, but let’s open Pandora’s box now. What do we think of Careless Whisper? I think I might be alone here, but even though I love George Michael, I really disliked Careless Whisper in its original version. I think I am the only person in the world who prefers the Bananarama version on Exotica.🙈
@@egonhuber4649 I like both a lot, for me it is one song with two different vibes, and I find the Bananarama version pretty good, I used to listen to it, but I have read Sara and Keren do not like it at all. But then, they have always disliked the 1985 Do not disturb single, one of my absolutely favourite Banana tracks, actually that was the first single of them which really got me hooked to this group
Beautiful
i wonder why this version isn’t famous. the original version is of course really great and i love it, but this one is my favorite song from banarama.
Bananarama definetly ruled back then.
first heard this perfect remake in a club in southern California 1991 or 92. Bananarama rocks, best female band on this planet.....Bellissima, amor!
They weren't a band. They're not playing any of the music.
Band? Vocal group yes. Band? No
@@MooseCall Who cares? Their voices, their charisma, their songwriting, when applied, are enough...they know how to do a great cover, like this one...that's enough...
@@MooseCallthen who do you think is using the instrument of voice on this track, then? Stop being an elitist prick. Bananarama were born in punk and EMBODY punk and ‘ girl power’. In fact, Paul Cook of Sex Pistols plays drums on this track. And they’re brilliant.
I love that version and the video is beautiful.
30 years ago and i am only now hearing this - WTF have i been for 30 years.
that is the Gipsy Kings playing those guitars on this version by the way.
S P E T T A C O L A R E ! ! !
First time for me to see and hear this cover great cover!!!
The 4 of them should all become 1 group and tour!
That would be amazing
Utopia!! It would be heaven on earth❤❤❤
what a combo nanas and the gypsy kings
All four Pop Life singles shouldve been Top Ten hits.
I liked megalomania
as beautiful as ever bananarama forever and ever
Pop Life the record where this song is on is fantastic...great harmony vocals,,,I thought Jaquie fit right in,,,bring her back ,,, they should tour on this album,,,it never got it due!
yes . They are all great here. Wish Jacquie could come back. Just wishing her well at the moment.
Sarah and Karen didn't like Jackie. They said her heart wasn't in it. They never wanted Siobhan to leave. Siobhan just got a huge head after awhile. I'm surprised it didn't explode
@@erossinema8797 They were a tight bunch when I saw them in concert back in 1989...and they sounded great!
This song should of been bigger and Jac shouldn't of left, I love the 2nd line up, she did a brilliant job.
they totally rock
I used to be super into the Gypsy Kings. I recognized their guitar from the first strum. I wish I knew about this song back then. Gorgeous colors in the video.
Gipsy Kings. Great band!
This is not a Gypsy Kings song.....original by the Doobie Brothers.
Banarama are wonderful 💞
ALL THEIR SONGS GIVE GOOD FEELINGS
Классная песня🎉😮
Just love this version! So sassy!
Love this cover ❤❤❤
Keren looks lovely on this song as she looks like a Spanish dancer
Didn't know that version ! That's so cool 😂
Great cover
Not heard this from them before i love it
This is SO good. Why didnt it do well in the charts I'll never understand.
Possibly because the original Doobie Brothers' version was so good and if you're going to cover a signature track, it really has to be something special. The same with Black Blood's Aie a mwana.
Its was a hit in back in the day at the clubs
Gayham they didn't promote it that much
Gayham - Tom Johnston prolly enjoyed the royalty checks.
Because the iconic guitar riff that made this a hit for the Doobies in 1973 is all-but-missing from the song except briefly in the pre-chorus breakdown in the middle of the song. That's my take anyway.
Siempre❤
LOVE..💙🎶💙🎶💙🎶LOVE..
I'll always love "Cruel Summer".
ドゥービー・ブラザーズの最高のカバー!しびれる
I didn't know Bananarama covered this song, and there are probably tons of kids who don't know that this song is almost fifty years old.
I love their mix.
Spanish dance version of a classic redone by the Nans! So fresh...
The video is a sumptuous feast of color and light and period costumes.
Takes the Doobie Bros. classic hit to a new place!
Latin? its spanish european fuckin flamenco que no te enteras mate.
The artistic perspective they took is amazing
The instrumental sounds like Gypsy Kings
@@eddielouvers4882 I corrected it. Thanks!
Their best song!!
I don't ever remember hearing this cover before today. I though I would hate it, but I really like it!
MeganSilver13: It's even better than The Doobie Brothers original...
I love it, an awesome cover version done by 3 beautiful women. 10 out of 10.
I wonder if any of the Doobie Brothers chimed in with their thoughts on this.
@@arthurb5803 Check out Professor of Rock's recent interview with Tom and Pat of the Doobies. He specifically mentions this cover version to them with its flamenco guitar. I don't really recall either of them commenting on it. I suppose it could have been edited out if they did.
@@kbusby4824 Thanks I will try to take a look at that interview. I like both versions of this song. Bananarama's blend of voices here sounds so nice and smooth. Plus the guitar here by Gipsy Kings is superb.
I can't understand how this brilliant Spanish rhumba version of The Doobie Brother's classic had such a little impact on the charts and the radio back then. The sound of the flamenco guitar and the Spanish castanets makes this song an instant dancefloor killer which boosts you to get up and dance. I don't know why some pseudo music experts took this Bananarama remake as a devaluation of The Doobie Brothers' original.
Because after SAW stopped producing them, something was lost.
@@erossinema8797 SAW is on Pop Life...
@@teutguy1 I agree Pop LIfe was good, but I don't think their audience liked Jackie. And Sarah and Karen sure didn't like her either. Siobhan had the power voice of the group. Just was not the same when she left. Like many recording stars get when they become rich and successful, Siobhan's head exploded to the size of watermelon.
@@erossinema8797 I saw them in concert 1989...the San Fran audience loved Jaqui...I also saw the reunion concert and Siobhan never sung over Sara and Keren. And on their own Sara and Keren have become belters...just saw them last in San Diego...they sang loud...it was fantastic...!
@@erossinema8797 There's life after the SAW team productions. With or without SAW, this Bananarama Spanish rhumba version of The Doobie Brothers' evergreen song is a must and should have fared a lot better on the British singles chart. A No. 30 peak on the United Kingdom singles countdown is a joke. Additionally, the Spanish guitar playing and the backing vocals by those rhumba masters called the Gipsy Kings from France are a plus. Finally, just because SAW aren't credited on this song, there's no need to underestimate Youth's producing work on this song. He is a name in the world of producers and has given real masterpieces.
Sevillian style 😍😍
absolutely love this 😍😉
I love this topic, it fascinates me, it turns me on it warms me Bananarama forever
Better than the original I think and so underated!
In case you people are wondering it's originally by doobie brothers I think
Doobie Sister / Doobierama / Bananadoobie
- Tom Dallin
- Patrick Woodward
- Tiran O'Sullivan
W/
- Michael Fahey
This is good!
This song is also 36 year old
My favourite video with Jacqui in it
MINE TOO
No.30 in 1991.
dobbies female version outstandin
Venus was their best cover.
Jacki O'Sullivan was treated like a legitimate group member in this video. She looked great too!
For a once!
It seemed they were great pals again.
I wish the 4 of them would regroup!!
I was ready to Hate This with a passion!...............hmmmmm they kinda did it justice. Ok, it's really pretty good. I might have to listen to it again!
Aspel & co from 1991 with David Jason and Ross Wood on it brought me here!
🌈🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
No way! Nice try but I'd rather the original version of The Doobie Brothers.
I'm a Doobie Brothers fan 💜
OLÉ.
i didn't know this was a cover i don't the band who made it had any hits outside america
Such a shame Siobhan left before Pop life. The album was more suited to her.
Banarama gives Destiny's Child a run for their money!
nice try ladies, but sadly, did not cut the mustard............great video btw
agreed.
Japanese,solly.
リロイ・ゴメスとニコラ・レジェスが参加してるのか?😅
サンタ・エスメラルダというより間違いなくジプシー・キングス風😮
I love Bananarama and love the way this video was shot. Plus it's a great song from the Doobie Brothers but i love how Bananarama did it. I found an interview and performance on the Aspel & Co show with the Gypsy Kings, starts at 08:55 ua-cam.com/video/wCCy37tr3A4/v-deo.html Love UA-cam.
i could see Rerun doing the funky chicken to this!
You must be old if you want to do the funky chicken and you're old
Spanish flamenco remake version,interesting....
Who did it better?
I may be in the minority about that, but Jacquie O'Sullivan always was my favorite one in the band. Lost interest very fast when she went away
For Japanese ,II''s easy to remake.
Sultry jacqui was the only real singer. The others were jealous.love jacqui.
Destrozo monumental, al igual que Venus. Bananarama con el talento de los demás.
LOOP>9K
I prefer the "Traks" version. So funky !
I think Sarah was pregnant in this video
Yea I think she was I remember listening to an interview where keren said they only shot the top half
Yeah she was with her daughter Alice
Jacquie was sooooo hot!!
I vote for the original Doobie Brothers version....
i vote for the cover version by bananarama
Doobie Bros of course.
now Stephen Clarke from loughbourgh and garry whiting from Leicester we are now too exact true match proper gay partners forever together and we both totally like very same music together and proper stuff only instead forever
Sounds a bit like Gypsy Kings
Vilken skit! Jag visste inte ens att den existerade. Att man kan förstöra ett sånt mästerverk som Doobie Brothers fantastiska sång från 1973.
This is probably the most vapid cover of any song ever made. RIP Bananarama. Good riddance.
This is ...bizarre.
this is soo Doobie
Just heard this mentioned on the Ken Bruce show. When I recovered from the sheer disbelief that this hideously untalented mob could possibly have had the effrontery to record this classic, I decided to have a listen. Predictably I lasted well under a minute. How in the name of all that's right and proper did they EVER get away with it? Stock, Aitken & Waterman - hang your heads in shame. You were the natural successors to Chapman & Chinn, only far worse.
paulevans1954 I wasn't going to say anything, but I changed my mind. I have never liked this song, not even by the Doobie Brothers. In fact, I HATED this song until Bananarama did it. I was disappointed to see they did a cover of THAT song, but I can at least listen to it. I still, to this day, don't like Michael McDonald's voice. And they aren't an untalented mob. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but taste varies.
Actually it was Youth who produced this and it's actually very good.
@@nickpalmer3076 I prefer this to the original
@@Bevity I hated the original but they didn't do a terrible version imo
DK Albryte I agree 100%.
Original version is better.
garbage version of a great song
