5 years later and I still love this!
What stands out first and foremost is the fact that there are decent shadows on the ship. Fantastic work! Story is a bit abrupt, but it's short overall so this is to be expected. Actors' movements, etc. are pretty damn good. You got yourself a quality piece of work here, and trust me, that's a rarity.
You're exactly right. We've had some straggling negativity here lately, I think people have missed some of the perspective on this: We made this in a few weeks, soup to nuts.
I missed only two things: the "science fiction", and the "thriller".
lmaooo
It was like they bought Star Wars toys from Target, spray painted them, and played pretend paintball without the paint.
That's quite a likeness in the song. The track we actually used is just an atmospheric track from a library we licensed.
seriously tho. great work. don't let the critics who produce nothing get you down.
@PixxelProductions haha, I'm glad you enjoy it. We're a little behind, but we have some very ambitious projects coming out on the horizon.
I've never known an art teacher to grade on quality and only occassionally on percieved effort.
This sentiment has confused us since we released this. For a lot of reasons. 1) Holding a defensive position requires more resources than retreating, its the nature of defense. 2) He runs past as many guys as he shoots. 3) The third act highlights that the position is lost and he has no intention of reclaiming it.
Wow. You schooled me alright. Everything I have ever known about film has been turned upsidedown. You're amazing.
I would recommend sending us a logline to get feedback, and a greenlight if you're serious about pitching us... other than that, we're open to a wide variety of subjects and genres. It's unlikely we'll be producing anything much longer that 4 pages of formatted script this year that isn't one of our own children.
Good call, this is what we had in the original storyboard. We did the waterfront for simplicity.
- Their lack of fuel landed them in an unexpected area.
Thanks for your reply. I find so many kids in college seem to have an attitude of doing the least possible, have never been challenged, & expect the marks without effort. Life is not like that.I challenge them to do better- to think it through, to go beyond the fluff & to fucking SAY SOMETHING WORTHWHILE, not just copy what they saw from hollywood, but to have an opinion, something unique to them, not from their parents politics or religion, or political bullshit but their own well thought ideas
Great work, I loved this, the sound design was top notch. I could have guessed this was shot on a non crop camera like the 7D, but when I read the tags to see T2i, I was actually blown away, what lens where you using?
This was pretty cool. I especially like the sound effects.
"trust me, i'm a student" is the last thing i want to hear in a tight situation.
Apparently you've never watched the SyFy network, since this looks just as good as anything on that channel.
And again, where are your videos?
All is good to keep budget in mind, but it seems you forgot that earlier the character stated that there wasn't enough ammo to take them on. Either make him switch weapons or alliterates in the fact there are more troops
@101MovieBuff It's an old military bunker from a century ago.
What programs do you guys use for your videos. These videos should definately have 100 times more views. Great stuff
That was awesome! Great job with VFX as always, loved the sound, acting, locations, everything was great! Fuck all the haters, this was sick!
Haha ! That was great! What exactly did you do for your "muzzle flash"? I saw they were lens flares and I saw the turbulent displacement. I loved this!
This is Great! Where did you get your laser sound effects?
Thinking that it is also easier to do the special effects for laser guns then it is for other things. And thanking god you didn't use those sound weapons from the first Dune movie. The only thing about that movie that still gets me, otherwise it is a master piece.
A making of video would be awesome if I missed it please let me know. Love the use of lasers. Please continue to make videos to not do so would be a loss.
The location definitely was once an emplacement for a large piece of artillery used for coastal defense. Most likely a "disappearing gun" by the height of the parapet wall adjacent to the circular steps. Any chance this is Ft Hancock in Sandy Hook New Jersey?
+E.PLUMBUS UNUM Nah. Fort Howard in Maryland, it was closed to the public last year.
That was really well done. ... Any more planned?
@RedSpectrumPictures There were 4 lenses used, the majority of this was shot with the sigma 1.4 30mm. The first shot was the 2.8 tokina 11-17. A lot of the closeups were shot with the rokinon 85mm (this lens is super cheap, and super awesome)- and a handful were your run of the mill nifty fifty from canon.
Personally, I've never understood why people only interested in video pay an extra grand for the 7d over the t2i, and I've used both extensively. Put the money into some nice glass, people
What do you think the victory conditions were?
this was pretty good, and if there is more i would watch it. that said, i think i would have prefferred a more enigmatic piece in a short film format.
thank-you for the video.
What do you think the antagonist is in this?
great film dude! Excellent Colour Correction!! Love it! You could give me some tips on my videos :) Keep it up!
Both ships were originally modeled in 3dstudio max
nice, I think it would have been better if he was shown on a completely deserted looking isolated island in the end so it seemed more hopeless.
Ooooh! IMDB rated? Sorry if none of us are awestruck by your impressive youtube credentials.
Cool little flick!
Well done! This is great. :o
Wow! Amazing!!!
Was the plot random generated?
Roll: Small talk with is our cause just element?
Roll: Betrayed by ally
Roll: Kill a dozend enemies, because protagonists are invunerable
Roll: Communication with HQ with unrealted new mission.
@Ephisus Thanks for the reply man, I will definitely check out the rokinson 85mm, I am always looking to invest in some new glass for my t3i.
And I fully agree with you, the 7d is a decent camera, but with the right lenses you can get your t2i or my t3i looking the same quality. The 60d is more expensive than the t3i, however the t3i is the same with more, so I would have always gone for the t3i
looking at the before and afters at the end, I imagine, for better or worse, the effect is intentional - something akin to a very mild application of bleach bypass without the heavy contrast - just my take though.
In the future we make our weapons as visible as possible!
Great! you have talented guys :)
Sweet effects.
Correction, I should have said "opinion" not "opinions". You probably have valid opinions in other arenas, just not this one.
For this character, specifically?
Nicely done.
Nice work!
Loved it!
Nice, impressive FX!
that should be a recurring element in your flicks.
moby's "signs of Love" from his album "18". A great song.
p.s. how can you say "lack of story"? That's the strong point of this short.
Very good. I think the effects were great, but the acting could have been better! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do in the future!
really really impressed
What is the music at the very end?
It's clearly a theme...
I thought it was good... lol the acting was fine... its freakin UA-cam lol the acting was fine good effects, and filming. Well done!
Very very good action scene.
Im equally confused where you got some of this. He's complaining about his OWN clan at the beginning, he abandons his mission because of their consistently ambivalent behavior, he runs past as many telrac as he shoots, and his philosophical position is everything he states before he asks about the pilot's treachery.
By all means, though, and I mean this seriously- if you want to send me this script with your problems fixed and keeping it under 2.5 pages, I will gladly read it.
I don't know what video y'all watched, 'couse i loved it. OK, yeah its a bit short, but its called a short film, so you should have thought of that before you clicked it. the only criticism i have is that the guns shot lazors, and only 'couse i hate the sound those things make(I prefer guns that sound like they hurt). And i whant to know the rest of the story, but tha'ts a good thing :D
ZOMG!!! FORT HOWARD!
Great graphics
Awesome.
VERY NICE,GREAT IDEA....
It's just an ambient track from a production library.
What makes you think that he abandons his clan because it's hard to be in?
I'll take your belief that this was financed as a win.
did you notice the subliminal in the background?
Was this perfect? Maybe not. But there are a lot of great things going on here. And most importantly, the dudes did something instead of signing onto youtube and criticizing someone else's hard work.
"I don't take kindly to trusting somebody that points a weapon at me."
HUH???
love it!
love the berret
That depends on how proven the work is.
bravo!
That was good!
What made you think he was making a phone call? We're not being cheeky, I really want to know, because it's our aim to communicate better.
Pulling into the cool palette caused the guys shirt to go really white, and I think fail as costume. also the weapon seemed off. It needs more light fill to separate the characters from the backgrounds, especially early on and better shots in the dialogue to bring up the tension. Needs more sweat on the characters...and a touch of life from the bad guys who get shot. Light is the ultimate effect.
is that guy in the hat supposed to be a soldier or a frenchman?
The context behind what he's saying can imply that, but we, the viewers, do not get the context through your portrayal. His point is that you aren't fully clear on what's happening when you set up the scene.
Hi Apsis. “Forsaken” looked pretty good to me? I’m assuming you’re not a professional screen writer and the cast aren’t professional actors so I’m not sure what the other commentators are expecting? Visual effects were first rate (given your assumed budget). Nice job and f**k ‘em if they can’t appreciate that.
I actually quite liked this
great effects, acting was ok, and the story was a little confusing, apart from one guy betrayed the other guy, who turned out to be super shooter, who even though saying we haven't got ammunition to kill them, still kills them all anyways
well done
So you have a loyalist to the "Militia," spewing propaganda against the "Clan" ("Tela-wreck?") but abandons his mission after killing a bunch of Clan he hates seconds later? Confused.
They don't have enough ammo to take on the Clan but "Militia Loyalist" takes out the entire assault team (who are expecting to meet a captain friendly to them but coming in guns blazing; another weak point) with his gun and somehow grabs the captain's gun and has it on his back before we know it?
C'mon!! Korps of Krieg don't die so easily!
How much do you pay?
Well I'm not 100% sure what I just watched but it seemed good to me.
@StarwasterPrime Explain?
Yes and on walls no less.
Sounds good.
I am not seeing an email address on your youtube/vimeo page. Could you send a message with your contact information... or would you prefer contact through youtube?
Before I begin structuring a script I have questions regarding your team size and resources.
And just how does poor quality of your SyFy network or the availability of ziggy swartz' movies change anything of what he said, smartypants?
Here's the second.
Pretty nice
the movie was good. the sound effects, the animations were brilliant.
but the acting could have improvements though. But still, a really good video.
btw, as you are making films, keep in mind how hard it is.
i mean, you have an actual flim student dropping some knowledge here.... that doesn't happen often.
Forskin (Sci-fi Thriller Short film)
+burtlangoustine1 lol
There are evil people in the real world. They don't really care if they are cliche.
Why do villains have to wear Combine outfits?
Better script submissions are genuinely welcome.
