Top comment, great advice. I used to work at a place where we had several generators and the service company gave us that exact advice. We ran them every week so we didn’t really need to run the float bowl dry but we did it anyway.
Dude, when I moved to Rush City, I was amazed that people had power meters which you use a prepaid card to activate. It was like when you buy minutes for a phone
That's a really good score for a review. Might be good to have a generator charge a battery system so maximize the fuel usage if anybody wants to build a seriously reliable but efficient setup.
That is basically break in oil, you should run it x amount of hours, then use something else, to help get any metallic residue left from machining. Not sure if varying the load would help but id assume its like any other engine.
I used to use regular gas in all of my outdoor power equipment for years and never really had any issues but lately I have had issues the last few years and so I switched non ethanol fuel for both 4 cycle and 2 cycle stuff that I have and they actually run better and the non ethanol stuff lasts longer too.
I only use alkylate gasoline in my equipment. It stores much longer and contains no ethanol. It also burns much cleaner. Perfect for the generator as I sometimes doesn’t use it for over a year.
Nice review! I am amazed by its compact size, 3800/4500 watts is pretty impressive in that size. Also, thank you for pointing out its serviceability. BTW CO2 is not dangerous, that's carbon dioxide. The dangerous one (and what the generator is monitoring) is CO - carbon monoxide
Gabe, can you put it on an oscilloscope, and show the sine wave and frequency output? It would be nice to see how close it is to actual shore utility power.
I finally found my idea complete home backup generator, I just have to find a way to get it ASAP. Same brand as my Generac inverter generator, made right here in WI. My inverter model has been working great for 3 seasons. Even easily got us through a 2 day outage. But I want a dedicated 220v unit in a genhouse outside. Then our water and furnace, kitchen range and even the dryer would work and I could disconnect or leave connected my garage and chicken house. It's my current goal to get the generator I want for it.
The problem is, when the grid goes down, you can't get gas. It's fantastic to have a generator on hand, but if it's not solar or diesel, it's only a temporary fix.
Maybe look at older diesel generators as well that you can run on recovered oils or vegetable oils, be more in keeping with the SaveItForParts ethos. Thanks for the review :-)
Nice review, congratulations on the sponsorship, I like the product. Idea for the next review, tell us how long can the generator can run a standard 750 watt household refrigerator, a 1500 watt window air conditioner and how long can it do both at the same time.
Run non ethanol if available in small engines like that it tends to do better long term, ideally try to cycle the gas out every 6 months or at least mix with fresh gas, doing at least a monthly startup of it is always a good idea too
Would be nice to connect this to one of these solar power stations and if the power station gets low (not enough sun) the generator can start automatically. Having a own little energy grid with mostly solar power.
A very nice gasoline generator, it's perfect for a Field Day to power the radios and amplifiers. You could also use it while hunting for UFOs to power the equipment. The gasoline generator is very easy to operate, and I think a remote start for the engine would also be possible. This way, you could start the generator via radio or with a mobile phone, which would expand its range of applications. A very nice device that can be used in many different ways.
Wow these comments, tough crowd to please😶 I thought you did a great job for a review of a new product. Hope the manufacturer's hear your concern about the wheels, they don't seem to match the rest of the construction.
I got my power back last night after Francine, better than the month after Ida lol. I need to pull the trigger on one of these little inverter generators when winter comes around.
The only problem I have with nearly anything produced these days is they are kinda behind in the times. Usb charging is far higher in rated amps along with USBC PD. These things cost so little that they could be added for very little. 12v charging is also a plus. Yet pretty nice unit.
Take a portable radio out near the generator to see how much RF interference it generates. Inverter generators are notorious for generating RFI. Limits the usefulness if you're using it for amateur radio or satellite work.
I would more than likely prefer to just get a cigarette lighter extension and bring that 12v into the house for charging small devices, the USB ports seem way to fragile to be using daily if you're on a jobsite, and aren't very stout for devices like charging a laptop or a modern phone or tablet.
Great video you did a great job highlighting the safety points Thank you for sharing, I lost a life long friend a month ago from Co poisoning, he had it running in the garage:( Let it get wet and run it far from the house is how I would roll:)
Hey! I have questions. What are your thoughts on gasoline vs. propane for generators? And do you have any tips for cold weather starting from your experience using generators in cold climates? I've had to either take the generator inside to warm up before taking it back out and starting, or use a propane heater pointed at the carb, along with starter fluid when the temp gets super cold. I don't know what's normal though. Thanks! That's really cool loosening up the soil with the jackhammer btw. I'm going to look into getting one of those. The soil is all clay here.
We actually use clay spades on the jackhammers for sandstone, seems to work decently well. We do have a seam of actual clay in parts of the tunnels and it can be a little harder to get through (it's stick!). I don't have a ton of experience with propane generators, I've heard propane is cleaner exhaust and gums up carburetors less, and also theoretically lasts longer in storage, but isn't as fuel-efficient.
I have two small generators, a Honda and a newer brand. Both run great, but I rarely fire them up. Especially after picking up a 2K watt Jackery solar setup. I do need to drag 'em both out, change fuel in 'em, and run some fuel system cleaner thru 'em. Get 'em ready just in case. I have porches on either end of the house, a detached "carriage house" that hasn't been used as a garage in 60 plus years, and a couple other sheds I can run 'em in. They sit on the back porch, year round. Not too many worries about theft or fuckery from the locals, most of 'em know me, and just wave and keep going. Super rural, and a track history of dudes running clear across rooms to bash my fists with various body parts of their own...... oddest damned thing.
Although it wasn't your usual video genre, it was well presented and non-biased, which made it enjoyable. You had not mentioned it, and it does not show it on the generator itself that I could see, but the website claims it is a clean inverter. Can you confirm if it is an inverter generator or not for us?. Otherwise, you had demonstrated that it is a good all around generator for the average Joe.
Yes, it is an inverter generator. Any generator that has the ability to parallel to another generator (which would also have to be an inverter generator) is an inverter generator. You can not parallel a non-inverter generator... at least, not without some expensive additional equipment to match sine waves, loading, etc.
It's quiet because you have little or no load on it. Try testing noise at 2kw, 3kw, 4kw and let us know how much louder it gets. Regardless, as tested it still makes more noise than a Honda eu3000is. You get what you pay for.
Honda makes the best gensets my 2200i starts on the first pull in +40 to -40 Celsius every time. i know people with 5000+ hours on them with no issues. Id take a Chinese unit for free to though if i was you hahah i just would never trust it in a emergency situation.
The inverter gives you smoother and more consistent AC power, and the CO protection shuts it off if the exhaust builds up around it (such as running inside, which isn't safe).
I haven't had it long enough to say how it does over months or years, but we did bounce it down a rough road in the back of a trailer and nothing broke!
please tell your technical view of pager explosions in lebanon without politics, I just wanna know how could that be, too many theories that lack of technical info out there and I wonder why 🙏
Get a real gen skid low sulphur diesel. Gasoline is a high maintenance low hours operation for temporary service. Get a real industrial grade unit with automatic switching for service. That unit is just another cheap portable unit. With a very limited service life. BTW CO is carbon monoxide not CO2
(Psst hey business marketing people out there.. If someone makes a video this nice for you why dont you put this in your packaging and give a bump to the talent who made it per one sold? toss in a QR code flyer. ) :)
Save yourself some money don't use premium gas on an engine unless it calls for it. Premium has less BTUs than regular. Which equals sorter run times on your generator or lower MPG in a car. The main reason to use premium gas is if you have a performance engine. E.G. high compression ratio and or turbo or super charged. If it's the only ethanol free stuff you can get that's different. Ethanol free regular if you can get it is best.
I honestly haven't noticed a difference in climate in MN over my entire life... Some years are hotter, some years are colder, that's kind of the way she goes. As for Texas's grid, they should have replaced their coal power plants with something else before shutting them down if they wanted reliability in their grid, but that's more of a company/state/federal issue that should have been worked out than anything.
I am out of this video @1:02 - The "climate change' business. Climate alarmists were all in a tizzy over this 'deadly' hurricane season. How is that turning out? So well, they had to write an article questioning where the storms are. Man, you have so much verifiable knowledge, why move in to the realm of poor speculation?
no actual load test, no fuel consumption, terrible review. i personally wouldnt trade my 2200i for 3 of these. idk man, seems like a pretty biased review. its also still brand new. big thumbs down from me
Yeah, more of demonstration but most of this audience, myself included, will never run a jack hammer or need a Hobotech test to failure. What I would like to know is how long it can run a standard 750 watt household refrigerator or 1000 watt window air conditioner.
He’ll have to do an update at some time in the future and link that video at the end of this video. That way you can see how it is out of the box and then after prolonged use. That seems fair to me. I think he made a good first review, but as always with equipment you don’t know how good the stuff is unless you use it for a while! Warm greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱.
CO= carbon monoxide, which is toxic by inhalation in confned spaces and the result of burning fossil fuels. CO₂= carbondioxide, a by-product of respiration, inert and generally non-toxic unless in high concentrations. Pretty big difference. HTH
Great review as usual!! You should turn the switch to "No-Gas" to run all the fuel out of the carburetor after every use. 😎👍
Top comment, great advice. I used to work at a place where we had several generators and the service company gave us that exact advice. We ran them every week so we didn’t really need to run the float bowl dry but we did it anyway.

Yep, there's even a website "Pure-Gas" that will tell you the nearest stations in the US and Canada that have non-ethanol gas.
I only use alkylate gasoline in my equipment. It stores much longer and contains no ethanol. It also burns much cleaner. Perfect for the generator as I sometimes doesn’t use it for over a year.

hes got a generator now, next we'll see an aircraft APU

@@MrRaineth which model APU did you use?
I just figured next we're going to learn how to turn a 4500w generator into a satellite dish to intercept dying soviet spy satellite transmissions!😂

I’m looking to power a water heater with this generator wish will work between 4 hours to 8 hours when the cold weather come to NY.
Propane might be more efficient, depending on your location and building codes.
You did not mention if it has a 240v output for bigger house appliances. That would be a downside if it doesn't.

The engineers design it so you can fix it but then it goes to the complicating dept so it cannot be repaired without 10 hours to get to that 1 bolt

new review yay!!!
The dangerous combustion gas is CO, carbon monoxide, not CO2 or carbon dioxide.
Not good that only two of us realize that.
1:34 TAKE THE ENGIINE OUT, and use it for railcar 2.0! Also convert this generator to woodgas.

It would be wrong to charge a jackery with that.
What's the difference between 4500W CO protection & 4500 Watts inverter ?

LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Don,t Cut the Power Cord 11:03 👍👍
Seems like a Honda knockoff … not a bad looking unit.
can you comment on its apparent durability?
I haven't had it long enough to say how it does over months or years, but we did bounce it down a rough road in the back of a trailer and nothing broke!
To bad it doesn't have a dual fuel option.
please tell your technical view of pager explosions in lebanon without politics, I just wanna know how could that be, too many theories that lack of technical info out there and I wonder why 🙏
I figure someone got ahold of a pallet of pagers on the way from the manufacturer (who even makes those anymore?) and rigged them all.
You did talk about the main off grid receptacles 30A. You didn't even show it. So this wasn't a total review.
I don't have anything that uses that, figured it was just for RVs.
CO² detector? Why would it have that? More likely that its a CO detector.
if it had been UPS the box would have been severely beat up lol
UPS come and hands the package to me. Fedex throws it in the parking lot and runs over it a few times :-P
UPS is the by far the best delivery in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Yeah, premium is the only ethanol-free gas around the Midwest, everything else is full of corn and doesn't play nice with small engines.
