They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Some critics claimed that the first half of the movie was the best part and that the rest of the film wasted the potential of that plot. Others claim the second half could have been a groundbreaking superhero drama if developed fully rather than wasting the first half of the movie being funny. Yet more feel that both of these criticisms are correct, and that the film suffers from trying to weld together two great, but incompatible premises.

After the Slap i finally realize that Hancock and After Earth basically mirrors what Will is right now
Hancock is a super powerful guy, but his wife is just as powerful, or even more powerful, and she lives with her boyfriend and yet Will still wants her
In After Earth, Will's character is named Cipher Rage, which if you translate it literally means hidden anger, dude basically lives his life being humiliated left and right ever since the "entanglement" becomes public knowledge and has pent up rage bubbling beneath the cheery exterior of his, and just exploded at the oscars

3:03: "I think everyone fantasizes at one point, what they'd be like with superpowers. Half the time you'd see yourself as noble, but admit it, you think about how fun it'd be to be an a**hole with them too."
Brandon Sanderson talked about that one time. While driving somewhere, he was abruptly cut off by another driver, and the first thing that went through his head was how satisfying it would be to make that car just explode "like something out of a Michael Bay film, slow-motion and everything."
He continued, (paraphrasing here; it was several years ago,) "a lot of people would take something like this and be introspective, and get all horrified at seeing such darkness in themselves. But I'm a writer. I got _inspired_ by it." From that seed grew _The Reckoners,_ a series of books about a world of superpowered individuals, but for whatever reason, they were all supervillians. No one's sure if it's a "power corrupts" thing or if some individual is handing powers out specifically to evil people, but the fact of the matter is, no one's ever seen a super-hero. Only villains who use their powers to become brutal thugs and warlords. The titular Reckoners are a group of non-powered vigilantes who hunt them down and assassinate them.

When it's said that Hancock is built to be a Hero; she means that at his heart he always felt at peace with himself whenever he is being selfless and helping others around him, which is shown pretty well in that Hancock doesn't turn down any chance at doing something Heroic: from stopping the shootout on the highway, stopping the train, returning a beached whale to the ocean, he doesn't once make any complaints during these rescues or bemoans about him being inconvenienced by them.
