Dust Hill seemed to be either a palette swap or reuse of Sand Shower zone in the same version of Sonic 2: Sand Shower was a present day zone that came later but Dust Hill was a Ruined Present zone (think a slightly less bleak but not by much version of the Bad Future) of Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone intended as the Bad Future. Oil Ocean was also either the ruined present or bad future version of the cut Ocean Wind zone, which was basically a 16 bit version of Bridge Zone from Sonic 1 MS. Its design inspired that of Emerald Coast & Wave Ocean later.
That diving suit of Eggman’s much be made of vibranium given how he doesn’t get shredded into chunky red salsa by the mech’s fan blades despite not having any rings. Defeating him simply destroys his suit so it holds water no pun intended.
The special stages seem to be a combination of both the Sonic CD ones and the special stages in Chaotix: like those you run an obstacle course while collecting blue balls to try and win as well as rings to extend the timer. Fall off and you lose. The main differences are in Chaotix, you had to collect a certain number of blue spheres, similar to rings in the special stages of Sonic Advance 3, Flickies Island Saturn/PC or Sonic 2, plus you could and had to run on the walls of any tunnels you came across in order to reach some of them, which is why the Chaotix special stage song is called Tube Panic.
You should do a similar video, but with the stage gimmicks. (Like marble gardens pulleys being in stardust speedway, or sandopolis act 2 light switches being in oil ocean)
Metal Sonic phase 3 used to have a much better version prior to Mania Plus coming out: phase 2 was a bit harder and the following chase was longer, similar to the first phase. Then instead of Metal Sonic Kai, you’d be chased by a tall spiked wall and the fight at that point was a cross between the original Sonic CD race boss and the actual fight version of it in Generations. It also had a hilariously ironic ending when you beat him: instead of Metal Sonic crash into a wall, a wall crashes into him on the final hit. I’ve wanted a mod to restore this version of the fight for years because frankly the Metal Sonic Kai one sucks. It’s OK for Encore mode but they shouldn’t have made it replace the main campaign boss fight too. For the Mania Kai comparison, you also forgot Kyodai Eggman Robo from Sonic 3 & Knuckles where Metal Sonic Kai chasing you while breaking the roadway & shooting lasers at you was inspired by.
@@Christopherphillips207 That game was mid tbh. The fact that Sonic Mania isn't the first Sonic game with this concept turns it sh*ttier. This game has no reason to exist because we have Sonic Generations.

Still cool how in Hydrocity they flipped roles so then Sonic was in the mech and eggman is in the water

Nice! Would have been cool to note some of the gimmicks such as Stardust Speedway Act 1 having a lot of gimmicks from Sonic 3’s Marble Garden Zone
Yea but stardust speedway is from sonic cd, which came before sonic 3
Some of the gimmicks they added in stardust speedway in mania were from marble garden but weren’t in the original stardust speedway
@@canontheory yes
Also there's one from sonic advance 3 in act 2 it's one of the gimmick from sunset hill
Mirage saloon may be desert dazzle too.

Mania style in origins where everything gets replaced with a style of mania

this here kids is what we call a support bot

Have you done one of those lists for Sonic Advance?
9:27 1. Sand shower zone
2. It has oil ocean music, not HPZ music
10:43 lava refrigerio
I love this video so much and I give it all my love I always admired Sonic mania
Mirage lesson+desert desal+sand shower+dust hill zone😊
Mirage saloon’s origin isn’t dust hill, it is desert dazzle, a « remake » of dust hill
Metallic madness 1 boss in Sonic mania reminds me of Sonic 1 final boss.
Green hill zone has a lot of grass.
I played sonic 3
Cool
Titanic Monarch Has The Final boss in mania
What the hyper ring do with the normal ring?
@Orlandito10 getting them all allows you to be HYPER SONIC
Im think studiopolis zone looks like collision chaos zone
Nah spring yard
Metal sonic phase 3 is referent to the giant robot of sonic & knuckles
No I think the special stages sonic model is based on sonic R and the special stage it’s not cd
The "I think" line?!
Also i disagree.
Metallic madness has Final boss in cd.
Hear me out studiopolis zone is based off spring yard zone because of the city genre
