I’m 18 now and have had my 2007 S550 for almost 2 years (second car, first car was a Camaro SS but was too small for me as I’m like 6’3-4. ) It’s been an amazing car for me and I couldn’t think of a better car to daily drive. It’s the single most comfortable car I’ve been in. The stereo is amazing, crystal clear with extremely deep and loud bass. It’s very safe too, which helps with the parents. It’s also a sleeper, no one expects it to be so fast. 0-60 in like 5.2-5.4 seconds and a mid 13 second 1/4 mile in a car almost as long as a super crew F150. My only complaint has been maintenance costs (obviously), tire wear (about 15k miles average on rear tires), and the lack of exhaust sound. Mine is pretty loaded with the Premium 2 package (heated/cooled seats, park sensors, keyless go, sat radio, etc) AMG Performance Package (AMG exhaust, suspension tuning, body kit, and AMG wheels), plus the wood/Napa leather seats. Despite being an almost 13 year old car, I never really feel like it’s out of date feature wise or looks wise. The only thing it doesn’t have that I wish it did was Bluetooth audio and a USB port for playing music off your iPhone. But almost everything else I care about it has and then some. I mean it even has adaptive cruise control in a 2007. Amazing. The only annoying thing about having a “grandpa car” is the amount of people asking me if I’m “joy riding daddy’s car.” All my friends and family love it though, and no one can believe it’s a 2007.
I'm almost the same situation. 18 years here and I'm about to get my hands on a 2013 mercedes s550 4matic. I don't think it's necessarily a grandpa's car. I actually don't know if my 2013 will come with bluetooth music but I know it has bluetooth calling.
Mohammad Uddin it doesn’t have Bluetooth audio (sadly). But it does have an iPod cable you can use with an iPhone or you can get an adapter that plugs into the iPod cord and gives you Bluetooth.
Great inside review of the S550. You should take it to the next level and show the outside of the car. I recently purchased a used 2013 S550 with the AMG package and Sport package. What a great performer and great ride. This one also has the 4.6 liter V8 bi-turbo... and very quick. Thanks for the video.

2007 S550s (badged S500 here in the UK) with a smidgen under or over 100,000 miles are going for the £9k-£13k region. Just fantastic. Gonna be interesting chasing one and swapping my Golf for one lol
Are u kidding? Sport and Comfort mode in my ‘14 are like night and day! Sport mode lowers the car, tightens the steering and changes the shift points. S550 is a sleeper and can give many cars out there a run for the money for a big sedan!!
Its a good car for any age as long as you have plenty of money when a repair comes up because repairs can be expensive unless you do them yourself but some of the parts are also expensive since there aren't very many after market parts made for the S550.
if you cant afford the freaking insurance you cant afford an S class, its not happening, the maintenance is still one of a 100 grand car. you will be spending thousands of dollars several times a year.
Honestly I think you should try Toyota Avalon, not many people know about the car but it's so comfortable to drive, interior feels very wide open, it's a simple car, and you can't go wrong with a Toyota v6!
I’m 16 and have a 2007 S550, it’s the perfect car for a teenager to be honest. It’s very safe, fits lots of people, and is SUPER comfortable. I had a 2010 Camaro 2SS 6M for like 3-4 months (family had it for 3 years before that) and traded it for this. It’s been super reliable for the past 3 months I’ve had the W221. One thing is the car is surprisingly fast, at 0-60 times of around 4.9-5.4 it really scoots off of the line, and gas mileage is pretty good with me averaging at about 16-20 depending if I’m mostly in the city or highway. The features are incredible for a car this old, cornering headlamp bulbs with articulating headlights, 16 Speaker 600 watt Harman Kardon Stereo that BUMPS, seriously. People ask me all the time if it’s aftermarket because the bass is so loud and clean. Heated/Vented/Massage seats. Digital instrument cluster and Nav. Like every feature imaginable besides USB and Bluetooth audio are on this car. I retrofitted auxiliary input and had it coded in so that works fine for me. Plus it has AM/FM/SXM/CD/DVD/SD card. I’m so elated with this car it’s unreal. It really feels like a $100k car at 1/5 the price. (I like it more than my family’s 2017 Lexus GS350 AWD. It’s just a better car imo. )

You said in this video that you can hear the engines sound. ALWAYS CHANGE YOUR TRANSMISSION OIL if you want no noise and to prolong the life of this car! Go to the dealer and change the filter as well! Take it to them because it's worth it even if it's going to cost 200-300 bucks . Do this first with any old Mercedes car. This is actually a secret that a dealer told me. They WANT your car to run down and they won't remind you to change the oil and/or filter.
Growing up I had the chevys and big rims and loud colored candy painted cars but now that I’m In my 40s I need something that holds clout as a grown man ride . So many guys have Escalades pick up trucks and other foreign cars and I think the Benz holds it own far as class and fancyNess . Yes I hear people crying about the labor fees and that’s what separate those who can and those who can’t . I’ve never had anything luxury besides a few DTS Cadillacs and I’m told the Mercedes-Benz S class is way more car than a DTS could ever be . Since I’m a commercial driver I figure I’ll be on the road most days so my car would not take a lot of wear and tear . . Suggestions ? Options ?
I just realized that I'M the old man now! I have this car and its suits me. Great car, but not ideal for a 20-something-yr-old. Get a BMW 5-series or 6-series, or an Infiniti sport coupe. Btw, the windshield is infrared shielded to keep out heat, but also makes it harder for infrared remote signals to get out.

The bad points with a W221 are the steering and the size of the car. Most cars are one and a half turns of the wheel to full lock, but the W221 is 2 full turns, which makes it feel like under-steer, so you can't drive it sporty. When it's parked in a parking bay with the front as close to the bay limit as you can get it, the end sticks out far too much (at least on the 'L' version) and it's also too wide.
Must have the painted tail-lights otherwise you'd be showing the car. Drive THAT and it looks like you could afford an old used car and that it all matters. In real world, no one cares.

The new Lexus LS 500 beats the interior styling of the new s class and also has the far better modern exterior styling as well. No need going to Rolls Royce which is just in a different league really.
Brandon B we definitely have different opinions but it's all good. I am speaking based on interior design not materials. Materials I believe both are superb but the s class has a design that's old fashioned especially when u look at the a/c vents. The door arm rest etc. Look at the concept used by Lexus, I haven't seen that design before. Floating arm rest design plus the wood and two colour tone leather design on the doors. Normally like in most luxury cars like the s class the wood flows horizontally then leather either on top and below. The Lexus has the wood curved around the door handle area then leather just before it and leather just after it two different colours. I notice these details in design and quality modern craftsmanship. The same is applicable across the entire dash and center console. The S class is top notch and was the best designed in this category in 2014 but I prefer the new modern design now of the Ls and if u read top speed's magazine review and comparison they agree as well.

Used 1st gen w221 s classes are NOT going for 40k, not even when this video was made a few years ago. Try 15k or even less in many cases.
