    W222 2015 Mercedes s550 Review: ua-cam.com/video/z2_ucTl8QeQ/v-deo.html
So the few issues most of which will be addressed is the cup holder, headlight, washer fluid, and I personally noticed a slight vibration through the seat. Otherwise, all is good and it was great to drive. But leave your thoughts on the S class below. Please follow on insta & twittee @exhaustsports or you may become a Patreon member. If your in the market for a W221, look for an 08 or newer and you can find good parts on FCP EURO. They have lifetime warranty. Check them out. God Bless!

In the 7 speed there is a delay because in comfort mode if you hit the gas hard it drops down because it starts from second gear. Put it in sport and it starts from first gear.

Its just v8 they say. Thank you. On yt are some videos about engine demontation of this model or fabric code. Thank you.

My fav looking S class till date. It was so distinct from the C and E model that seeing that car on the road back in the day made you turn your head. I loved the rear of the car and just the overall slik but yet huge design, it really was a presence on the road, and tbh I still love seeing them on the road. I wish Mercedes kept distinguishing the S class from their other sedans like they did with this car, it would’ve made the S class a lot more special today.

Had a 2007 S550 Sport and absolutely adored it. Had mine modded with a secondary cat delete , X-Pipe, and eventually a tune from OETuning. It was most definitely a sleeper. 0-60 in under 5 seconds and would light the rear tires up easily. Pretty much everything in the car was wonderful for its time and I really miss it. Was totaled on my way home from class one day and was totaled. Theres a few videos on my channel of the acceleration (0-100MPH with exhaust mods but no tune) and the exhaust sound. Another side note: the handling is really good in the AMG package. It got totally different calibration on the Airmatic suspension, much wider tires, larger Drilled brakes, and an AMG exhaust (yes, on the 550 models.)

Exhaust Sports Auto they’re an incredibly safe vehicle and it did a lot of advanced things following the crash. My seats adjusted instantly, my windows rolled down, and the car automatically called emergency services despite not having a phone connected. Sent them my location and I talked with the dispatcher for a sec. Was super impressed my 2007 car did that. It was coolest teenager car ever and I loved driving it through Highschool. Super safe, fit everyone in it, everything was nice and it was mechanically really reliable. We spent about $8k in 2.5 years just maintaining it. Nothing really broke except the amplifier (which I replaced myself and got a new unit from Harman/Becker for $1100 direct) and the air suspension pump. I replaced both diy and that was only $1500 of the total. Everything else was maintenance, suspension parts (control arms, wheel bearing, tires, transmission mounts), and modifications. Converted all the bulbs to new leds besides the existing xenons, which I replaced with newer bulbs. It was a “money pit” but I still miss it every day and would recommend one to anyone that knows what they’re getting into. Now I have my Cayenne S which is a great car, and surprisingly handles way better, but it doesn’t have the regal and imposing feel that car did. The cayenne gets more attention from the wrong crowd, the S got attention from people who knew what it was.

    Fun fact,
in Saudi Arabia when we want to refer to Mercedes cars, we use symbols like you “w140, w126, w222, etc. ...”, but we also use specific nicknames for each generation, for example: -
w140 = phantom or “the ghost”,
w220 = Viagra "because it came Blue :)
", w221 = panorama" because it first came with a panoramic sunroof ",
w222 - my favorite name - = yacht" I think for the steering wheel design and also the luxury "

I’m currently on my 3rd used S class. There really is no car like it. Lexus LS is probably more reliable but IMO it’s not on the same level. Vibration through the wheel is most likely the motor mounts that wear out around 40k or the ignition coils. The coils may not throw a CEL but they’ll make the car run rough. Also, when the transmission is selected in the S mode the suspension tightens up and throttle becomes more responsive along with some other things.

I have the 2010 4matic version of this car. Ironically I leased it initially thinking I would only keep it for 42 months and here we are a decade and 125K miles later and it's still my daily driver. It does cost a couple grand a year in maintenance (eg motor mounts, wheel speed sensor etc etc). The car does have amazing performance. I did not expect this hulking car to accelerate so effortlessly. Still has no creaks or rattles and ride comfort is as good as ever (I did have to replace front airmatic struts recently -- a $3000 K proposition). Nice review.

I owned a 2006 S600 and 2007 S550, not a big fan of S class, they are comfortable but lacks of driving pleasure. Engines are bulletproofed but the ABC suspension repair and sensors problems can be super expensive. I spent $10K to repair the ABC systems on my S600. The early S550 also has transmission conductor plate (speed sensor) problem that can cost $5K to replace. The conductor plate is a Mercedes security part, only certain shops can order and install.
I also brought one 2006 BMW 750Li and two 760Li, pretty much the same as S class in terms of ride quality. The valve seals are expansive to repair, around $9000 to replace the seals.
I also have two 2005 Audi A8L 4.2, it is very sporty and ride quality is better than S class. But a lot common VW engine issues such as timing belt, valve cover gaskets, ABS issues.

FWIW I've been looking into these and have watched other videos and stuff. Your commentary seems bang on and very consistent. I also mirror your thoughts on throwing big body cars around. Until you have done it, you don't know what you're missing. Your comment on the M273 vs M278 is also interesting. It was good to hear you preferred the more organic and possibly engaging response of the N/A M273 over the later (and faster) bi-turbo. That's good news because those cars are way more expensive and for reliability, I'd trust a sorted M273 over an early M278 any day.

Kidding aside, if you can turn a wrench, learn about the chassis & keep an eye on things rather than just getting in every day & doing nothing you'll find out these are just cars. With the exception of systems like airmatic, sbc, abc suspension, etc....I've done tons of work on my Benz & spent a little less doing it myself than what my 2010 TSX needed. On my Benz, I've done wear & tear items at 80k mi. The failed vsa modulator in my TSX could've killed me at 57k mi when the brakes would intermittently fail. $2,200 PART. Not repair. PART. @ExhaustSportsAuto: Kevin I love your analysis…However, it’s confusing concerning the W221 2013 vs. 2007…Your comparison is more of a driving of-the-car. In 2010 Mercedes improved the W221 with features that’s superior to the 2007 - 2009. Even though your earlier comparison implies the 2007 is far better than the 2013 model…Please clarify…Keep up the good work…

So I’m about to make a video taling about reliability and it’s almost done. In that vid I talked about how no 2 used cars will ever feel the same. I remember driving a 2016 Lexus GS and I hated it, felt so sluggish. Then I drove 10 others and they all felt amazing. This 07 S550 was perfectly maintained and taken care of and it shows in how it drives, the 2013 was completely neglected and felt way worse to drive than this 07 even though both are the same car. This is why I prefer to lease and dump new since you don’t have to worry about a car’s past life as we have no idea how these cars were used/treated.

I gave mine up, per the recommendation of everyone, just as the warranty expired. On the way to the trade dealer, the cruise control failed. 4500 repair. The service team had a log of what they spent under warranty. 45,000$! I knew my repair reps personal life well. The amount of time I spent dealing with repairs was ridiculous. It did drive well. I’m sure it has been junked by now. Something like the suspension, computer, etc will have failed, and the part cost alone will be greater than the value of the car. Because of the miserable reliability and the staggering parts cost, they depreciate rapidly to 0$ soon after the warranty, even if you happen to get one without issues.

Weird spec. Appears to be completely base except for cooled front seats. P01 (premium package) would have included the backup camera, wood wheel, cooled front dynamic multi contour seats, and the rear shades. So this car appears to just have the standalone cooled seats optioned, skipping all the other P01 accoutrements in the process

This is an early model. In 07 P01 only included cooled seats and sat radio. This car has P02 which is parktronic (parking sensors), keyless go, cooled seats, and sat radio. The wooden wheel was a separate option along with a rear view camera. P03 added the multi contour and rear shades. But P03 is pretty rare on a 2007-2008 550

    • @ic1815
      @ic1815 4 роки тому +1

Tyler Beeson well, couple corrections there. This is a P1A package early model which consisted of just the cooled seats and Sirius radio, and yes this has the up level P02 that is correct. P03 also included night vision and the rear view camera - that was not standalone. Dynamic massage multi contour seats were part of P03 as well. Constantly find cars equipped with P03 options here in Canada though 😁 the US had a lot less standard and a lot more to choose in terms of option packages. Because our Premium Package consists of Drive Dynamic cooled front seats, heated rear seats, keyless go, wood wheel, electronic trunk and rear sunshades ... then we have technology package which consists of night vision and distronic... etc. So obviously I got a wee bit confused with Canada’s premium because we do get alot more in one package.
