Regarding 'trowel angle' and 'opening/closing': I think that's one of the hardest things for a diyer/apprentice to learn. It takes practice and is where most people having a try for themselves on just one wall go wrong (assuming they've got the plaster off the hawk, on to the trowel and on to the wall in the first place! 🙂).I can still hear my dad shouting at me when I was learning- "Bend your wrist, it's all to do with your wrist!!" Same as the subtle bending of the wrist when using a float to rub back from angle beads. Very hard to actually see. Watch, do it, do it wrong and get a bollocking! He was a very skilled plasterer but maybe not the most patient teacher! Having said that, it makes you learn quickly!!
When i skim ceilings i tend to wear a cap on my head helps stop plaster falling in my eyes only to lay plaster on .having had experience of plaster in the eye no joke . I enjoy your vids well done take care mate.
Yeah a cap works, the only thing with caps, especially on a scaffold, the clamp studs that stick out, sometimes don’t see them coming! Plaster in the eye, scaffold stud in the the top of the head! These are some of my least favourite things!! Julie Andrew’s!
@@Plastersmurf74 One of the builders I worked for had blood running down his face. He'd hit the top of his head on a clamp stud leaving a lump of skin with some hairs sticking out on the stud. How inconsiderate of him as I had to work round what he'd left behind all day. Yuk!! 🤢
Just a little tip…. On the second job if you cut the plasterboard slightly bigger than your hole then draw around it with a pencil then cut it out and the plasterboard will fit straight in 👍🏻
So you dont need to scrim around the edge of ceiling repairs ? wont it crack ? i wont bother then on my ceilings at home . Thanks for the heads up. Good informative content re not needing angle irons, just sponge and brush etc
If you can scrim. It’s a bonus, if there is a crack close to the wall, but you are not going to do the wall, just the ceiling, then get scrim against the wall as tight as you can. Or, you can scrim the actual corner and cut the excess with a blade when it’s set.
Yeh ... I got Plasterboard dust in my eye once ... So painful .. Had to go to hospital where they took the eye OUT to clean behind it and Slit the membrane to release a larger bit - Couldn't work for a couple of weeks - (Don't look UP!) Or keep yer glasses on 🤠
@@petemoring67 from plasterboard, ? crikey. That pir insulation board isn’t much fun in the eye either. As you push it between 2 joists the trapped air often puffs out of the gaps as you push it up.
Hold board up to the ceiling. Obvously a little bigger than the hole. Draw around board.mark board and ceiling as reference. Cut out old board put new up scrim pva and skin job done. (Ps) don't tell me you left withought cleaning all that shite off from around patch. Always leave clean edges its pleasing to the eye and doawnt look a mess wen customers look at it. 😊😊
So smurfy going forward can you show the d I y er how the pros would actually leave it and not how the asume its been left 😂😂 .as some people may think its acceptable to leave like that. Also stop mentioning sandpaper and sanding if its done right they would never be a need to sand . Just clean. My oppinion .
Yeah, it’s the only dedicated plastering shop around this area, if I’m buying a new trowel, a good one, then I like to have a good look at it 1st rather than order online. 👍

I’ve not been to windlesham for ages.
@@Plastersmurf74 not missing much. Very overpriced in my opinion
