Living a happy, quiet life - reflecting on what it means to be happy living in Northern Sweden

- Six months ago we left London to come and live in Northern Sweden. Many people talk of finding happiness in a simple life or a quiet life, having lived in the sparsely populated Norrland for a little time now we wanted to reflect on our experiences. Now of course the life we lead here is not that 'simple'... we live on the edge of a town, have all the creature comforts of electricity, computers and so forth, but the connection we have with the beautiful nature around us and the sense of accomplishment we have found from working on our own projects here have given us cause for reflection.

What's up everyone, we are Naomi and Jack 👋
We are a young married couple who are all about personal growth.
In summer 2020, amidst a global pandemic, we uprooted our lives in Central London and decided to move to Northern Sweden.
We were fed up of living on top of millions of other people in London, living out of one room in a flat shared with Naomi's parents, all whilst studying, working, creating UA-cam content and launching our business.
So we bought a car, packed it full of our belongings, and drove nearly 3000km to Sweden with no idea where we were going to live.
This year we are taking time out of studying Medicine and Law to pursue our business, BEAUTYNOIR, the Afro-Caribbean hair and beauty directory helping women to book beauty better.
So join us as we share and document our journey through film.
We are so pleased to share our journey with you and hope to build a community of people who can support one another and grow together.
Lots of love
Naomi and Jack

What’s up with the thumbs down people??? Why the negativity? Guys I’m a 68 years young subbie from the USA.. I’m extremely proud of y’all, and the thriving spirit you both possess; it’s truly amazing to follow y’all on this beautiful journey, always remember this along the way... your character is who you are; your reputation is other people’s perception of you, but their perception of you is not your reality..with that being said; continue to do whatever makes y’all happy, and United as a couple...happy holidays...
there are always thumbs down on any youtube video, I gave thumb up though. And hehe I'm 69. I though live a bit north of them in Sweden, the snow has melted away.
@@zpitzer I understand that; my thoughts are truly sincere, it’s a bright spot in an otherwise dark place in our world right now..I’m just saying...
34 miserable people thumbs down is pitiful
I know what you mean about stress and depression. As a child I lost my dad to suicide, as an adult my mom and sister to cancer, and my baby brother to drug abuse. Finally I found yoga and meditation this helped me to calm my mind and relax me some.yesturday I went to my cancer dr. And she told me my 10yrs.was up cancer free and I no longer had to go to her .I was so happy that my boyfriend and I went out to eat to celebrate, while there my cancer dr. Called said she got my blood test results back and I was having troubles with my liver.well here I am again with terrible news and wondering why me and feeling sad and sorry for myself again .The yoga and meditation has helped some but still very worried. Not sure why I'm telling strangers my troubles but needed to tell someone how I feel and that your not alone .
You are strong, you will overcome this. Sending you virtual hugs 😚
It is good to share, similar story some twenty years ago dr did not call me with my lab results until weeks after at 11 oclock at night, no news is good new thats what I was thinking, it was not it was ca, i had surgery back then, praise God I am well now. Reading and trusting the psalms and healing words from the Holy Bible works for me, thought I share please give it a try I felt lead to respond to you God bless, heal and comfort you amen. Sorry I didn't address you by your name but I can't scroll down to see you name.
Will be keeping you in my thoughts for healing and strength, most importantly calmness of mind. 🙏🏾
Added to prayer list, Lorelei.
I’m happy you shared it because now I can pray for you. Stay positive!
Bless you, Jack. What you say at the beginning is amazing. If all men were as honest as you, what a world this would be.
I look forward to your new videos. It the first thing I do on Saturdays, to start my day. I am 59 and I admire your bravery, adventure, and wisdom at a young age. I pray for you. You are touching many lives.
Love this!!
❣❣❣what a lovely comment
“Be the change you want to see in the world”, so powerful!
Ghandi said that. Powerful insight indeed.
Happiness, peace and contentment are found within. We need to be content with oneself first, then we will enjoy the environment we're in.
Sweden looks so beautiful and peaceful and serene
It is beautiful we are lucky, glad to share it with you! You must come and visit ❤️
@@NaomiandJack Hi, do you know the legal boundaries of your property and land?
Watching your videos are so relaxing for me, both of your voices and the actual video (so professional looking) are so calming 🙏🏾😍
Wise words from a beautiful couple, naughty cat and a wonderful estate ! (PS cats are always naughty, but still charming as hell, when they feel like it)
Hehe she is very naughty but wonderful! Thank you so much ❤️
Look at you two snow angels! Enjoying every moment, savouring the memories you are making, taking time to reflect on life... Beautiful video!
I pray you always love and be "in" love with one another...always cherish and respect each another. You two show the world what love can be...such a sweet video...ugh Saturday to Saturday is just too far in between to wait for the next video. You really brighten my day...
I love to see you having fun in the snow like two little children! You made me smiled. Please continue bringing hope and happiness to others that watch you. Thank you! :)
So true, I agree!!
For me as introvert and loving snow, you live in heaven! You describe your impressions magicaly. We had 2 days of snow 10 cm after many years these days and stepping into it made me feel so so pure, self cleaned, joyfull. It melted today, i hope for some more :).
Naomi and Jack, Thank you for 14:16 minutes of beauty, love and laughter. I think playing together is just as important as praying together. #beautifulvideo
Being almost twice your age... I must tell you that watching your journey has resonated so deeply with me. May your continued quest to elevated consciousness of the beauty of life in all its splendor and horror... I am so glad I found your channel.
Thank you Naomi & Jack for this very wonderful video - right up my street! I just wanted to let you know that - I specially saved this video to watch it today on Sunday morning, because it's my day off in England and I just had my breakfast, sitting next to my Christmas tree and watched this video whilst having my breakfast. This journey took me far away from here and all away to you guys, to Sweden and to a snowy and peaceful land, beautiful place of yours. You have no idea how much it means to me to start a wonderful day like this! Now, its time to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and the rest of my day! Thank you Guys for that! Have a lovely day! Greetings from England, Lina x
It takes time for the mind to relax and also realize it can let go of the anxiety and stress. You've had several y e a r s with anxiety and feeling stress, just a couple of months won't change that. It's ingrained within you. It took me personally 2 years before my mind actually realized I'm not living in a big city anymore. The moment this puzzle piece finally slipped into it's place, is something I still remember vividly. Exactly where I stood. Exactly how this fantastic landscape swallowed me whole. A deep connection to the universe and how utterly small and insignificant I am in the grand scheme of things. It might sound as a negative feeling, but it really is not! It's incredibly humbling and instantly breaks you free from whatever prison of the mind that you've put yourself in.
As an introvert Swede who grew up in the north of Sweden, even I can not take to Swedish winter darkness and isolation sometimes. It's really tough, but also rewarding, since you catch up with yourself and your surroundings. You guys seem to cope better than most, well done! You are doing the right thing turning to nature. Most of us up here are atheists, but nature is our God.
Happiness to me is discovering a new location where I can enjoy my surroundings 100% at any time of the year. Having lived in UK all my life and in a rural location of Norfolk I yearned to live in the Scottish Highlands. As a photographer all my life, this was to be the ultimate country for me to discover so much more than I could have imagined. I have travelled all over Europe from the cold depths of Norway to the hot climate of the Greek Islands but to me the peace and beauty of my beloved Scotland was fulfilled beyond belief.
That snow ❄️ up to your knees is insane!!! Thanks for sharing so honestly and openly about the challenges of your new life. One book I’ve been enjoying listening to, about handling our own winter moments, is “Wintering” by Katherine May. Loved that both of your voices are behind this weeks video!
Wherever we go we take ourselves with us. Takes work to be happy.
Also loved that quote
So young - so wise! ❄️
You guys never disappoint..that was a great watch! ♥️
Right! I get so excited when I see new videos from them lol
"I wasn't about that life " made me laugh 😅
Me too 🤣🤣🤣
This video is hitting home for me. I was literally thinking about both topics today. Moving to a place in the middle of nature and the importance of moving the mind first ... and the fulfillment and beauty of creating things with your own hands.
For instance recently I started to bake my own bread and the joy in doing so isn’t comparable to buying it.
Thank you both of you. You guys are still so young yet so mature you make a great couple and compliment one another. Wishing you all the best in your snow full area in Sweden. Stay happy warm and creative
Have fun and enjoy your home, the beauty of your surroundings, and knowing you have your best friend to spend the rest of your life with. You are both awesome humans!
Thank you for showing the world the value of living in northern Sweden and open the eyes and ears at all of us who have lived here since birth and have more or less become blind and deaf to the beauty that surrounds us, you are precious 💕
Naomi my heart cries too, at the sheer beauty that's Sweden. The views which Jack captures, put us (your viewers) in the centre of your experience.
I'm extremely grateful to share in your adventures. Thank you, and may GOD BLESS you with more love, peace and safety.
oh man that’s great snowcream snow! Little bit of milk, a little sugar, a dash of vanilla extract, and mix in a bowl of soft fluffy snow. Perfect american snack on a snowy afternoon in front of the fire after playing in the snow all morning.
So, I’ll say this..for my introverted-ness, I gain peace and serenity when watching your Sweden vlogs mostly because of both your calm voices and your beautiful scenery. I still loved you guys in London but you’ve shown us more now because there IS more... to do and to see and to be! Thank you! 🥰
Nice to see you relaxed having fun in the snow! I love the quote: 'a man's work is a manafestation of his individual spirit' as I am engaged in a work I love and helps many. Thank you for sharing your very deep insights with us.
It’s so beautiful when you see neighbors helping each other , it just put those memories of my childhood 😊
That snow-thrower is much better than the one you had before. :)
I used to struggle with stress and anxiety, but I've worked something into my routine that has helped me a lot -
Give me the grace to accept what I cannot change, the strength to change what I cannot accept, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Regardless of where I am, if I find myself getting overwhelmed, letting go of those things which are beyond my control is a profoundly powerful process. That's not to see that it's easy, but letting go of those things that are toxic and only doing me further damage by holding onto them is always worth that initial effort in exchange for the peace that follows.
It seems as if you both have found your happy place in Sweden. I was tickled by your playful antics in the snow, touched by your inner reflections and thoughts about living your happy, quiet life in the northern wilderness of Sweden. Nature has touched your soul. Enjoy its many gifts! Take good care. Namaste, Jenny
Jack - Im Swedish myself and I just have to warn you, one of the hardest living in Sweden is not the cold during the winters, its the DARKNESS during the winters.
And the more north in Sweden you live the less daylight u get. So take it easy, lack of sunlight is hard mental duress you have to deal with. But on the summer you have the opposite issue, you have no darkness. Its a special place...
But what I REALLY recommend you guys do, look up and try and find information about "Aurora Borealis" aka "Northern Lights" I think September is peak month, and you have to travel longer north to be sure to see it, But maybe plan a holiday for next year and go see it. Its worth it.
I'm a Swedish INFJ and I certainly don't mind the darkness during wintertime. In my opinion it contributes to the serene life in the countryside.
Im from the states. THe part I live in winters are very rainy and grey, extremely low vitamin D pretty much. IT's hard, but the natural scenery is pretty.
I actually find the winters worse down here in the middle of sweden. Mosit and damp and dark. The snow really brings out what ligth there is. But winter depression is still definitly a thing, specially with modern indoor jobs
@@borjesvensson8661 - Yha If you work 8 - 16, Its dark when you go to work and its dark when you get home from work.
But guessing Naomi and Jack work from home, so they won't run into this issue as much.
They prob can take in all the sunlight during the day, then its amazing bright with all the snow, so they might not run into this problem.
Thank you for sharing all your thoughts . For so many people who seem to think they can run away form their own minds...you need to address what troubles you and your mind deem important , and make peace with them!
This was an enjoyable experience today with you two and sweet little Lola. I yelped when you were skidding down hill and the truck passed by down on the road. Be careful guys you both are important to us! Your posts are such a welcome addition to my week. Take good care and Ty for such beauty! ❄❄❄
I see it didn't take long for the snowblower to get changed out. :)
Moving to the rural areas of Sweden... where people are scarce d.. being one with nature, and cultivate peace, quietness, endless fresh air... takes courage and determination and dedication... Good luck
You took the thoughts and words right out of my mouth.
In my perspective serenity and finding your inner balance can more easily be found were there are not so much distractions.
Reading a book inside your flat a rainy day in New York can also be a good thing but generally most of us can't do that.
To do us you do. Get another perspective of live. Take a time to breath, not being totally isolated will bring you back as totally different and much stronger human beings. Telling those around you later on in life, what to do when things add up.
You don't know what this video done to me.... ❤️
Beautiful video thank you and love your words on cycles, seasons, beauty, reflection and nature. Looking forward to the rest of your journey and the insights it brings xx
I always find your videos so uplifting and honest, two beautiful people living life , loving life and making every day count. This video although i love them all is probably the one that warms my heart the most. The open and honest talk about inside your minds makes me want to hug you both so much. The fun on the driveway made me smile , this IS what love looks like on a day to day basis..... sending you both love from yorkshire xxxx
I am So Happy that the two of you are having a Beautiful Time living in Northern Sweden and thoroughly Enjoying Life. It's Very Important to do so!! Seeing the two of you playing in the snow reminded me of the time when I was your age and a non-located Technician that consistently traveled in our 14 state area from Montana to Pennsylvania. When we went to Northern Michigan in the winter, I fell In Love with the beauty of nature up there, and the environment. Of course things will change down the line, but for the moment, LIVE!!!!! 🥰🥰
Loved watching you two playing in the snow. Time for some snowshoes! The drone footage and sunsets are amazing, and your voices are so calming. Thank you for sharing❤️
They voices and scenery are just the perfect combination!!
In Sweden you usually don’t use snowshoes. It’s a North American thing. In northern Scandinavia you ski. Wide skis, called forest skis, that carry your weight across deep snow. It’s a lot more effective than walking.
@@Jonsson474 I would totally agree for traveling across distance, but for working around their home the snowshoes would keep them from sinking and sliding. My Yowies are from Australia, require no special care and I’ve had them for 20+ years. They have crampons and a hexagonal pattern on the deck to keep me from falling!
I went to college in Minnesota in the US and now live in the tropics. Watching your videos has me missing the cold of a Minnesota winter.
I understand that your transition was a big change for both of you! But it make me happy and warm inside that you find your place here in sweden. You both doing a wonderful job of turning in to true swede's! Here no one real swede will turn on because of colour of your skin or heritage, here you have to prove your self as a person and show what you are mad of
#RoadTo50k
SouthAfricA is here 🙏
Beautiful as always 🌺🌺
Whooop exciting times ! Thank you for watching ❤️
This is amazing. I've been watching u guys for a very long time now and these current blogs you have been doing with your move to sweden have been so in tune with me and my life. I feel like god is literally speaking to me through you. Thanks for this beautiful video.
Naomi and Jack...thank you for this mindful video which was exactly what I needed to see this morning! Your words about changing my environment was what I needed to hear. I do a lot of self reflection...constantly adjusting my course...but your message...coming from YOU, hit home today.
I love following you two, so inspirational for which I send you much love light peace and heart 🙏🤗 thank you for your openness honesty and oneness.
What a beautiful heart felt vlog and really lovely yo see you both playing in the snow. Community is so important to all humans so it was also great to see your friends working with you. Having a good balance of alone time, time together and time with like minded friends I find is a good way to stay contented and happy. I too have suffered from depression really badly in my past and since adopting this balance have been a lot better.
I'm so glad I found you guys 💛. This is exactly the type of life I dream of having someday. Living in a quaint little home, in the middle of nature, with the love of my life. How divine 💛
Awww your videos resonate so much with me, I can't help but be moved by your reflections and your reactions to the beauty only found in nature, I am usually in tears and speechless in its presence. Thank you for sharing! Hugs and blessings from Alabama, USA
Lovely couple . I find my peace in the Lord . Appreciate all the beauty this world he has made for us. Love the man he gave to me for the last 26 years . Still embracing each day .
You two are a lovely couple m seize each day together
I absolutely love your story and home. It warms my heart that you both have each other to share this journey in Sweden. You have inspired me to follow my dream of living in a more relaxed environment. Thank you so much for this beautiful content. Much love and success.❤️
This video is just amazing. I also moved to North Sweden a few years ago from the UK and I relate so much to your words. So beautiful ❤
Serene and beautiful Sweden looks like a postcard the video was calming and a delight💜💋🇺🇸fla
Agree, I was thinking their backyard is pure goals
Jack and Naomi, I just love your videos! You make them so beautiful and mindful and it's such a sweet mix of life wisdom, renovating and sharing your experience!
I love the comment about it is not where you are you have to find happiness where ever you are! We all need to love life always!
So glad to see that you got a proper snowblower.
The mind can thrive on anxious thought... fed by the World.
Your video gives our minds beauty, calm, peace.
The heavens tell of the glory of God;
And their expanse declares the works of His hands...
Psalm 19:1
Watching the two of you using all you could find as a sled going down the hill brought back hundreds of memories of having fun in the snow as kids with friends. That's true joy
I am so jealous right now, the snow is just perfect and serene.
So pretty to look at!!
Without a valley ! You do not recognize the peaks !!! Then the peaks are amazing
The cinematography and the narration for this vlog is on point! Sooo tranquil! Tfs
You two made me laugh so hard with the fun activities on your snow-covered driveway. Try Langlaufen, you both will enjoy it. I love Langlaufen so much more than skiing. The strong activity and the quietness of your surroundings. You'll love it. Lola is such a sweetheart. You always bring yourself, your attitude, and your troubles where ever you go. If you know you're part of the collective called humanity so many things fall into place.
As the old adage states Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder , so what we see and are thankful for, is a self gratification of what we believe in.
Simple as that without the frills and self determination and yes Jack I too am a self confessed Introvert.
I like how you guys are settling in and finding those things that make you tick .You have managed to create a serene space out of your environment and you are doing well .I applaud your sense of adventure.I wish you guys a merry christmas in the beautiful snow and may 2021 be as prosperous as you wish it to be.❤️
I just found you guys, and I have been watching your videos since this morning, here in the US! You guys are so creative, and very great story tellers! Thank you for sharing! I love ❤️ you guys! Love ❤️ Sekhmet SapphyreSun❤️😻🙏🏾
You just have to give up on happiness to find true happiness.. That is something i was told and laughed about until i discovered the true essence of that statement. Give up, give in, drop the chasing for it and it will come to you, stronger, more vivid and like a blessing. I think that you guys are doing the right thing, especially you Jack, to find peace of mind by being out in nature, living where you are, right now, in this moment of life. Be here and now in the moment, don't linger in yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because it is not yet here.. You have found tools to be happy in the moment, like the "pulkabacke" down your driveway! :) You are doing just fine right now. ❤️
I have just watched all of your Swedish videos. I’m hooked!!!! It’s been my dream to have a cabin in the woods in northern Sweden. So thanks for sharing your journey. It’s giving me hope that one day, I’ll be doing the same thing :) Tack så mycket
What a beautiful video and what a wisdom you have put in. It's a video that makes me want to watch more than one time for your beautiful and wise words. I like it that you mentioned Jonna Jinton. She has her ice cold moments. :-)
I am always so very happy and excited to be on the journey of your lives through your eyes. I feel so much in common with you guys. Lots of love and best wishes for the season.
my god, the scenery and sunsets are so fantastic and unusual --- there seems to be a lot of pink in Swedish Sunsets. I'm in Canada and our sun sets seem more mauve. Given pink is a colour you like, you obviously landed in the right place. Best video yet. Thank you.
Jack, those are astute observations.. being kind.. to yourself! Part of the cultivation is finding those nourishing practices...and double down on them when you get back to the city...both of you have already the wisdom beyond your years ... wonderful to watch!
Loved ur vid! Nature absorbs our negative energy. That’s why we go to the cottage, away from the city here in Canada. Your new life there in Sweden will help improve your problem w anxiety, n instead bring peace within yourself.
We moved to Sweden just over a year ago, this is our second winter a d we are yet to experience that much snow. This week we had some snow during the night but by the next evening it had all melted 🤣 but such a beautiful country to be living in.
When you grew up with winter and snow every year it is enjoyable to see people experiencing this for the first time. I hope you get clear nights with a strong full moon and snow, it's magical.
That was beautiful. Thank you
Look 👀 At The Snow ⛄️Amazing So No Body Around Beautifully 💕
What animals are in the woods, deer, wolf, bear, wild winter things❓

Wow beautiful video. I'm happy for you guys. Doing what makes you happy. LIVING in a rural area is not for me, but living in a big city is either. I live in a for town. That works for me. You guys do you. ❤️😘
Such beautiful narration, I really admire you two. Sweden changed my outlook on consumerism and life in general, which am grateful to. Greetings from Kenya
Kalay imoow Sweden 😁
Beautiful, beautiful video. Love ♥️💯
Thanks for posting this beautiful film. For me it was a testament for nature's power to enhance and restore the spirit.
This is a very beautiful work of art.
I love how you are connecting with nature. Keep it up beautiful people :)
I finally comment, I love watching you guys on Saturday, sending love from the cayman island❤
Cayman islands 🇰🇾 🏝 😍
You are so right in all you just said. Someday I will share my story with you. I live the snow and I miss it so very much. Keep enjoying and God Bless.
I am willing to bet you have a wonderful story to tell....." someday" should be TODAY...tomorrow isn't promised.
This was so beautiful! The drone shots were amazing and seeing your discovery happines reminded me why I chose to stay in the north when so many moved to southern Sweden. When I was fifteen my school had a thematic week on what we wanted to do when we grew up. What stuck with me was the two extremes. One; the hard rock base player that slept on top of his bookshelves in his bedsitter to be able to work with what he loved. And two; the man living not far from you (not far being in Storuman kommun) that took any job that let him live in the house of his dreams. This made me aim for a job that would let me live close to my parents summer cottages, that I so love, to have weekend getaways. It also lowered the stress of the "you can be anything you want" mentality. I think there is more focus on life outside work now in motivational speeches but happiness is often so tied to a fulfilling job that you are considered weird if you are not happy if you have your dream job. And lazy if you are happy with a menial low wedge job. I loved the drive way playtime you had. It looked like so much fun. Your reflections on life made me reflect so thank you for the push.
So much fun, this is what i call, living your best life🥰❤❤..
You found a wonderful place
beautiful reflections, thank you for sharing.
Have you put up any swedish christmas decorations? You’ve probably noticed that we have stars and candlesticks in the windows this time of year. We put them up on first advent Sunday. Those are electric. And then it’s also common to have a more classic candle stick of four candles and we start burning one candle on first advent Sunday and then start on the next candle on 2nd advent Sunday and so on and by christmas we light the 4th one.
Then on the 13th of December we celebrate Lucia. Not that most of us do a whole lot that day. But if you turn the tv on in the morning there will usually be a choir singing the traditional songs and at the front there will be a woman with candles in her hair, she is the Lucia.
You should try the lussebulle or lussekatt. The yellow pastry/bun that is tradition to eat especially at Lucia but all of christmas really.
Oh and the main xmas celebrations in Sweden is on the 24th of December. Don’t know why we’re ahead of the rest of the world. Or of most countries at least. Guess we just couldn’t wait:)
And on the ”tjugondag knut”, 20 days after christmas, the 13th of January we throw all the christmas stuff out. That’s our official ending of christmas.
There’s probably loads more that could be said but that’s just from the top of my head. The stars and candlesticks in the windows are NOT optional:) get them up!
I almost felt like a heretic this year because I was a day late😀
Oh and GOD JUL!
I so look forward to your videos, the way the two of you speak is listening to the finest poetry and the beauty of nature that you show is absolutely breathtaking. Happiness is what you make it, there will be disappointments and it’s ok, believe me that’s life. I enjoy so much the maturity, the love you have for each other and nature. May God continue to bless you in every way possible.
Beautiful ....
A brave post.mThank you.
Naomi skying was just great! :D
