You two are great together, I moved to Sweden 15 years ago, you will never want to leave. Make sure to both take Vitamin D tablets in the winter as the lack of sunlight will put you into deficiency.
New subscriber - I moved from the UK to Sweden nearly 20 years ago. I have never looked back and will never move back. Everything is so less stressful here. The Swedes maybe not as open as the Brits, they are a little shy. But I have got some amazing friends here now, it takes time to settle in and find your social circle. But I am sure you will love it !!! :-)

Wow, ok I hope you don't mind, but I think I'm going to copycat some of the colors and designs you did in that kitchen.... that looks fabulous!!! And that wood you used for the island, what a treasure! It's gorgeous! Yep, I'm stealing it.....lol
I think it is fantastic what you have done already, just travel to this country, buy a house and then renovating it. Not many people do this. 👍😀 I wish you all success and happiness ❤️😂
I love you attitude, I cant say enough how wonderful it is to see the old being reused and brought back to life. It is like a breath of saving air into our overconsuming, overachieving stress of a society. You will have northern lights up there soon if you dont already, and when the roads get hard from snow you take those 'standing sleds' out from your attic shead and have some fun (we call them sparkstötting) And dont forget a good quality vitamin D up there when the 23 darkness falls =) You guys are great!
Welcome to Sweden. I moved here myself this summer, renovating a £4500 house from 1939 in the lower part of Northern Sweden. I had the exact same problem with the soft materials on the walls when I wanted to paint - took me days instead of hours to finish the job. And I still live in a mess like you guys... Hang in there, and drop by for coffee if you ever drive south! Snow is coming tomorrow ;) And, please do never ever let your hair hang loose when operating electrical tools 🙏
Starting in winter, in Sweden, it gets warmer and warmer after January. 12 months goes by quickly. But your story is very sweet, even magical. I love Naomi's spiritual aspect and your positive attitudes. God bless you both.
House looks amazing. My white husband and I have moved to Norfolk and are currently painting up a storm. We renovated our previous home in London. There is so much I want to say to you guys. We have been in a mixed relationship for 33 years he is a white Yorkshire man I a black West Indian. We have a 14 year son. We have retired and own our house mortgage free. I love the Swedish life style and have visited a few times. We both worked in law but now my husband is a photographer and I, well I am a beekeeper, a potter, I grow fruit, flowers and veg. We have chickens and ducks. I make soap, candles and bake. We visit a local auction weekly to upcycle what we need, we home schooled for 3 years and travelled lots. Veggie, zero waster and eco warrior and I blog when I get time. I am so proud of you two for following your hearts, working hard and loving each other. Your also funny and entertaining. I have just found you and had to subscribe. Keep up the work, get some chickens to support your egg salads. P.s consider some lockable wheels on your kitchen island making it even better.
Hello welcome to Sweden I must say that I am impressed by how well you solve all the small and big problems that always arise with old houses. continue and you will soon have a wonderful home with kind regards Bengt
I love this! My husband and I bought a shack and remade it into a beautiful, big home. We started when we were 20-24 respectively and lived there for 25 years. I laugh thinking about how we used paint cans as seats and painted the floor to pretend it was a rug for the meantime. You are making wonderful memories that truly will last a lifetime. ❤️
For anyone outside of Sweden (or native southerners having no clue, haha) yes you can get houses cheap af here. If you look for them far enough up north and around or outside small towns, or even better, in tiny villages. We bought our house for 120 000 SEK a handfull of years ago. Which would be about 9 727£, or 10 729€. We did have to spend some money on changing old rusty plumbing in the house, but other than that? Solid roof. Working heating system. No water or moisture damage anywhere. No urgency to repaint the house facade either. A healthy house. Something to be aware of is heating costs during fall, winter and spring, which up here is the big portion of an entire year. Cheap, old houses like these are often quite drafty. Now, our house is fairly large. Furnished basement, first floor and then a second floor. So many rooms to heat up. This house have a lot of draft, and old windows, loads of heat getting lost there. Our heating costs vary between 24 000 to 32 000 SEK a year. So if anyone is looking to buy an old, cheap house in northern Sweden? Make sure to ask the realtor to check what the heating costs for the specific house is calculated at, and what type of heating system is installed. You don't want to have it catch you off guard! :)
@@Ubetterworkblog Hi. Yes we do, comes in handy whenever there's a power outage! We also got an woodstove in our basement, and a stone oven. The type you can make pizza in.
Just found your channel what a lovely couple, so inspiring, life is a journey, repairing items to me is the only way, buying your first nest is like listening to the springtime when the birds make their nests, lets face it many of our ancestors did before there was massive credit, to build and make from things around you feels your soul better than feeding a bank, good luck you two have subscibed.
Love how your kitchen turned out, some warm colours there. Have you met your neighbours already? You perhaps need the help of your neighbours to survive the harsh winter months. Comes so early in Sweden, stays so long. Take care, the two of you, your energy makes me so proud of you.
so good -so clever! if you put some felt on the bottom of your furniture you wont scratch the floor when you move it about., You can buy them at the hardware store.
Yes, I was definitely worried about scratching that new flooring, just glue some felt all around the bottom of the breakfast bar, looks good well done, hope ll works out for you both.
guys, I am very happy for you but please take good care of that heating system of yours, winter is coming and Lapland that winter will test you like a ton of bricks. if you're not filing up to the task please invest, hire a good plumber and fix your boiler and trimmings.its much safer and efficient to hire someone who knows what his doing than learning everything from scratch. plus if anything will go wrong I am sure that this guy will be more than happy to help you .hi will give you tons of suggestions what to do and what don't, .not everything is worth to go DIY and especially your health.
Northern Sweden has a lot of old homes that has everything needed for a zombie apocalypse since the electricity can be faulty in wintertime and you don't know if you need to travel hours to get stuff, better to have everything at home already. Swedish people get brought up and early thought to take care of nature so you do not dump garbage in nature, you put it in a shed if it can be used for something else. For example, there can be lots and lots of old magazines and advertisement papers saved, in case you get sick and cant easily start a fire with wood and a knife. If you have no heat you freeze to death.
Wow@you can freeze to death. I live in California, snow and freezing to death is just soooo far from my mind. We think it's the end of the world if one rain drop lands on our head.
lol, that makes sense, in the frozen North of Canada ( or even in the southern prairie where I live) heat is not only necessary it is vital for most of the year. As I type this it is below freezing outside. Not cold by our standard only -10C, in another month it could easily be -30C which then can mean no hot water as the vent freezes and shuts off the hot water tank. Ugh. But a working furnace saves your life and prevents the pipes from freezing and bursting. Good times. It’s fascinating seeing how Swedes set up their homes and this sweet couple has so much to work with. Really enjoying these videos. If there wasn’t Covid I’d offer to come and help!
@@pjj5824 also why houses are built like theirs, a basement and two small floors instead of a one story sprawling house is that heat rises and it is as much volume with the smallest surface area you build. That is still functional. Easier to heat and keep the heat.
@@jaybee608 yeah, I was really tired when I wrote it so it basically my inner ramblings. I was actually planning on writing a comment on allemansrätten but oh well...
The couch and the island came out really well. Someone probably mentioned this already, but try to add some casters to the island so you don't scratch the floors you worked so hard on.
If you move your curtain rods up higher, your room will look taller and more cohesive. The bottom of the curtains should just barely touch the floor. It will look great and allow your hard work to shine!
Using what you have, making it work rather than spending when you don't need to is SUCH a part of swedish living, especially in more remote areas. We make do, we play tetris, we refurbish, and we make it work
Good comment! Also, when in a new home, of course refurbish what's needed, but ripping out the old and rebuilding the place should generally be postponed until one's lived there for at least a year. Many people move into their new home and immediate rips everything out and rebuilds it with cheap materials to be "stylish", and then regrets it a year or two later when they realize that there actually were reasons for things to be laid out like they were before... Many swedes are making this mistake, both in city apartments and rural homes, but from what I've seen this far Naomi and Jack are doing this the right way! Kudos to them!
Hello beautiful people! Love you 😘! I moved to Sweden 12 years ago, after 25 years in Africa, born in Romania, studied in Germany, traveled around the world, Long story ! 3 children, adults, have been married to an African man, two grandchildren, happily together in Sweden! Flipping may be a great option but....who wants to live there ? complex. It will be fun to find out what your real options are ; in the mean time, you are having a great experience and have the wisdom to appreciate it. All good !!!!!
Totally chaffed with your renovation. Joined a week ago and binge watched everything. The subs were 26,40something and you are on 32 now. Boy. Well done you
Naomi and Jack check out the proposal story i once survived long ago. Happily married to a dutchie. Am of Rwandan roots, born in uganda and grew up in Tanzania. Moved to UK 35 years back. Married a british Nigerian 1990. Sadly divorced in 97 and remarried in 2001. Happy lemonade. Great connection still with father of my boys 28 and 23. Got a daughter with hubby now 18. Anyhow go under the proposal and see one that i got away from before the Nigerian. He was Rwandan
Good job on the kitchen. My husband I moved to France in July 2017...and it was only for two years. We now own property in the SW of France. Enjoy the year you have together and wherever life takes you...do it together. Much love from Gensac.
Yes. You will need studded winter tyres for the car. Take out snow shovels and snösläde sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sn%C3%B6sl%C3%A4de Noted that you have kicksleds and skis. take them out now. You should also have sand or gravel, usually you can get that for free from the county. Take a bucket with you and fill it up.
I am so happy i klicked on your videos. I hope you are doing well upp in the north. I have lived in northern Sweden all my life and i love it. Välkomna till Norrland.
Hello you lovely two. I'm a new subscriber and have enjoyed catching up with your story. Before commenting I read loads of comments and it appears that you are getting great advice. I'm Canadian living in Ontario, so am familiar with long, cold winters. The Swedish landscape looks very much like northern Ontario. What a wonderful adventure you're having. With good advice and new Swedish friends you'll be well prepared for the long winter months. The temperatures are unlike anything one has experienced if new to a northern climate in winter. I'm thinking of the time my British brother-in-law visited in February for a special family event years ago. He literally had his breath taken away when he walked out the kitchen door into a mighty blast of arctic winds his first day with us. I'll never forget the moment and the look on his face..fright. Having never, ever experienced such cold it shocked him almost off his feet. By the end of the vacation, he warmed up to the conditions and we had a great visit. I'm looking forward to sharing your time in Sweden via cyberspace and the miracle of capturing and editing. Enjoy and love each other to bits. Until next time...C
I posted on another video, but the kitchen cabinet doors should come straight off by removing the pin on the outside of the door, just use a screwdriver and push it straight up and off by hitting the underside of it’s head. It’s easy, you don’t have to unscrew the whole hinge on the inside. 😊 LOOOOOVE HOW YOUR HOUSE HAS TURNED OUT❣️ 💚🌱🍀✅
Wow!! You two are truly soul mates and you are enjoying your lives. I wish I could have half the mindset that you two have. Enjoy your journey together
Naomi, Jack, I’m speechless! You’re amazing putting so much hard work into this project. Just wonderful! Love it!!!!!! Subscribed to your channel:) I live in Finland btw. and it’s my dream to live in the country side :)
Good job Naomi :) what you can do with some old boards and determination, great end product. You both are so smart to take the time to live ! Thank you so much for sharing. Love from The Netherlands
Okay first of all... you guys are absolutely wonderful! I usually never comment on videos but now I can't help it. How you pay tribute to my homeland Sweden makes me shed tears, somehow a good reminder. I was born and raised on the Finnish border, so a little further north from where you are. Yes, as many say, the winters are a bit colder and dark at times but the summers are super beautiful, outstanding and the sun never sleeps. If the border to Finland is open at New Year's (normally it is, but because of the covid situation the border is only open for border residents), you have the opportunity to experience New Year's twice in two countries. In Finland, the time is one hour ahead of swedish time, so at 23.00 Swedish time you celebrate New Year in Finland and then you wait an hour and it's New Year's in Sweden. If there ever is something you are wondering about or something you want to ask, feel free to do so. You got a new subscriber, can't wait to follow on how your year will look like. Good luck and welcome!:)
Wow this means so much to us, thank you so much for your kindness and love! This comment really stood out to me and I needed to see it! Where do you live now? ❤️☺️also can’t wait to celebrate New Years twice 🍾
Lapland is so beautiful. Can I send you a roll of screen because when I was there no one had any screens to keep the mosquitos out? Many rural areas have a desperate need for medical professionals. Maybe you bought your house in the perfect place.
SOOOOOO EXCITED, HAPPY and INSPIRED by you both. It warms my heart and brings a smile to my face to see you guys achieving YOUR DREAMS and DESIRES on this journey. MANY MANY BLESSINGS, along with some AWESOME MEMORIES... KEEP is going while you keep the videos coming...🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤❤❤💚🙏🏾💛❤❤❤ASÉ

Jeez, some of those questions that folks have asked Naomi & Jack are in my opinion, quite intrusive..."Where do you get your money from? How do you pay your bills?"...Just because they're choosing to share their journey through life online it doesn't mean they owe anyone an explanation of their personal finances. I dunno what they feel comfortable sharing, I'm just a subscriber, a new subscriber, that found those questions pretty rude...That being said, the kitchen looks amazing! All that hard work sure did pay off💕
First, I simply love your voice overs...😍😛 Next, I love the serial aspect of the adventure! 😍😝And last, the kitchen makeover result is delicious! 😍🥰😘 I'm so proud of you two. When you're done you'll have an absolute 💎 of a home. 👏🏽
@@NaomiandJack You're very welcome! I want to also acknowledge congratulations for the great increase of subscribers. I remember urging that you could get to 5k, I think? Anyway, it's great to know that 40k is possible now and more. Onward and upward! 🙋🏽♀️
Well done guys! I'm cheering you on from Toronto, Canada. Just one thing though - SAFETY GLASSES are a MUST! Whether you are drilling, sawing or whatever please, please, please wear safety glasses or goggles. It only takes a second for some little thing to fly in your eye. I'll never forget the time my Dad went outside to split some logs for firewood and a little splinter cut just outside the corner of his eye. He came to the back door bleeding. Freaked us all out. Thankfully all was ok but had it been just a millimetre over, I think my Dad would have lost his eye. So, I never forgot that moment and I always put safety glasses on even if it's just a little job that will only take a second. Just saying...
I'm a new subscriber from Johannesburg, Sunny South Africa :) and just love your channel. You two are a lovely couple and I am loving your adventures with this home. I'm busy renovating my own home at this time so can really appreciate all the hard work you are doing. My one suggestion is to keep the same flooring throughout as it helps the eyes connect everything and makes the whole house appear bigger because there are no breaks, just continuety. I look forward to each new video and send you both big hugs :)
I LOVE your channel & journey!!! You both are incredibly handy. WOW. 8,300 GBP for the home + taxes + 5,000 for materials and furnishings. That is unreal. What a blessing. You guys probably aren't going back to the UK is my prediction... The business + his analyst job will carry you through I think.
Just commenting to say how great you guys are, kudos on your attitude to life (and all the hard work)! I showed this to my mum and she's proper jealous. She's a doctor (and I'm in med school), and we both wish you all the best, especially Naomi as our future colleague (sorry Jack). 😊

New subscriber from Sweden here. You guys are both just so gorgeous. Naomi is right regarding the kitchen floor, you are too far up north to "afford" a black floor. Scandinavian homes are usually white or close to it, to multiply the limited winter light by making it bounce off the walls and all other big surfaces, with smaller splashes of black and colours. Your kitchen is beautiful!

Flipping may be a great option but....who wants to live there ? complex. It will be fun to find out what your real options are ; in the mean time, you are having a great experience and have the wisdom to appreciate it. All good !!!!!
Great work! Välkomna till Sverige 😃
Hej Tommy
Hej hej tack så mycket ☺️☺️
Hello, I have no idea how I stumbled on your channel. BUT I am so glad I did. I so enjoy watching your Journey. Cheers From Georgia, USA.
Aw yaaaay, glad you like the videos ❤️
Totally chaffed with your renovation. Joined a week ago and binge watched everything. The subs were 26,40something and you are on 32 now. Boy. Well done you
Aww thank you sooo much welcome to the family ☺️☺️
Naomi and Jack check out the proposal story i once survived long ago. Happily married to a dutchie. Am of Rwandan roots, born in uganda and grew up in Tanzania. Moved to UK 35 years back. Married a british Nigerian 1990. Sadly divorced in 97 and remarried in 2001. Happy lemonade. Great connection still with father of my boys 28 and 23. Got a daughter with hubby now 18. Live in holland. Currently renovating a home we chose together after selling one i joined him in 19 yrs ago. Did Airbnb for 5 yrs...
This is so nice. I'm proud of you two. Sending you love and light.
Aw thank you, sending you love too ❤️
I hope you have prepared, snow is coming tomorrow.
Yes. You will need studded winter tyres for the car. Take out snow shovels and snösläde sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sn%C3%B6sl%C3%A4de
Noted that you have kicksleds and skis. take them out now. You should also have sand or gravel, usually you can get that for free from the county. Take a bucket with you and fill it up.
oh no not snow already!!!!
Ser så fram emot att se dem där uppe i vinter 😅
I am so happy i klicked on your videos. I hope you are doing well upp in the north. I have lived in northern Sweden all my life and i love it. Välkomna till Norrland.
What a fabulous transformation. Good luck with the rest.
😊 LOOOOOVE HOW YOUR HOUSE HAS TURNED OUT❣️ 💚🌱🍀✅
Haha I wish I wish we have known 😭 thank you for trying to help anyway haha
You guys are so handy its amazing, Welcome to Sweden hope you love it here :)
Team work is key to every successful business or journey.
Beautiful renovations to the kitchen.
God Bless your family.
Looks awesome...put wheels on the island and seat..

Good job Naomi :) what you can do with some old boards and determination, great end product. You both are so smart to take the time to live ! Thank you so much for sharing. Love from The Netherlands
Aw thank you so much for your kindness and love we really appreciate it ❤️
Välkommen till Sverige! Welcome to Sweden! I love seeing your progress. 💕
Why am I like a proud parent of you guys!!!! Ya'll did such a great job. Kudos and keep up the work because you know it's is more then worth it.
Resourceful and dedicated.Lovely rustic chic results.💛 That moonwalk wasn't too shabby either.😄
Love this channel.... look forward to future videos! Thanks for sharing.
Great job salvaging the old cabinets, etc. I love finding new purpose and new use for older things. Good job!
Lapland is so beautiful. Can I send you a roll of screen because when I was there no one had any screens to keep the mosquitos out? Many rural areas have a desperate need for medical professionals. Maybe you bought your house in the perfect place.
There are no mosquitos left any more. The mosquito season lasts on average from late June to early September, c. 2,5 months. The worst month is July.
Wow, it looks amazing. That island is great. Good job.
OMG! this is outstanding. I'm so proud of you guys!!! Keep up the great work.
Sweden is absolutely beautiful. Wishing you all the best on your journey. Love from the Netherlands.
Really admire Naomi's skills in building furniture.... PS. Please put wheels on the island so that it doesn't damage your new floors when
The kitchen turned out amazing!! I am super impressed!
Naomi, girl, I am sorry to say but I'm going to have to hire you out to renovate my house and build all of my furniture. This is too good! Both of you! 😊 Wow! What a beautiful kitchen! 😊
Aww haha you are too kind! We could both do your house up haha
the satifaction i get from this renovation and when you two talk in the backside i feel like some one reading a book for me, i feel like im a child again listening to my mom reading for me. tumbs up , you guys are the best
This means a lot to us, glad you like it ❤️
Im enjoying following this couple so much!!!
Kitchen turned out great you two. Good Job! Mark
A beautiful couple. May there be a DIY show in the future???maybe? Naomi, you have such a beautiful soft voice. You might want to look into doing some narration work as well? You would give Beyonce a run for her title. 😅. Keep up the content. Best wishes to you both and continued happiness.
Aww thank you so much, I love seeing your comments especially cos you have supported us for so long thank you soo much 💖💖
@@NaomiandJack You're very welcome!
Aww thank you so much for sharing that story, you are sooo right !!! We really should have 😔but thank God we are good, but no more risky behaviour ❤️
Thank you for taking us along on your adventure and being real.
I am so proud of you guys.....all day am looking out for a notification because I no you guys post on Saturday's......am so inlove with the kitchen
You guys done an amazing job 🧤💐🌹💕.
What nice work you have done renovating the house. Tranqulity fitting the Northern part of Sweden.
Just commenting to say how great you guys are, kudos on your attitude to life (and all the hard work)!
I showed this to my mum and she's proper jealous.
She's a doctor (and I'm in med school), and we both wish you all the best, especially Naomi as our future colleague (sorry Jack). 😊
I love your videos. And you both have such soothing voices.
You guys renovated so beautifully! now i know who to call for kitchen renovations
He he of course you can ❤️❤️❤️ we love you girl
@@NaomiandJack love you guys lots.
OMG, YOU GUYS WOOOOOOOW EVERYDAY WHICH GOES BY , I CONTINUE TO LOVE YOU. MAY THE ALMIGHT BE WITH YOU IN ALL KIND OF WAYS IN ORDER TO GRANT YOU MORE. LOVE U.😍😍
So very proud of you guys and inspired by you. Big love to you both. Looking forward to the many journeys you allow me and your many followers to be a part of.
Kitchen looks fab. Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great video too. 😁
Regards from the west coast of Ireland 🇮🇪 😀
You saved a bird - how wonderful ;-))
I like you both and your peace of heaven so much !
Wishing you the best time of your life up there in the
North. Greets from the northern coast in Germany
Love your ingenuity, creativity, reusing materials. Grand respect for you both. Endless Blessings
Have only just found you guys on here and I'm still playing catch up on your previous vlogs. I was going to ask the question " why are you there for just a year " but now you've answered that. Love your energy and enthusiasm and your little house is picture perfect. God bless you both in everything you do going forward and I'm subscribing so I don't miss any future uploads. X
Aw thank you so much ! Glad we answered your question, if you have anymore we will try to answer them ❤️ God bless you too and thank you for taking the time to comment 😊
I had the same thought, we are excited about winter hehe trying our best to prepare! But yes need all the light we can get ❤️
@@NaomiandJack So why did you paint everything black?
Steffan They did not! They kept enough light spaces that do not swallow the light.
Naomi you are so full of personality...love it! You guys did an excellent job on the kitchen...bravo!
