Hello 👋 Katherine. How are you doing ? Hope are you fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from. You seem like a real country girl
This is heartbreaking only for those who know how he used to tackle this tune years before he was ravaged by the terrible disease. Bless you Glen and thank you for your contribution and know how often your music moved me to tears.
As a musician myself, and I tell you this is great music, just Glen's vocals, lyrical composition, his daughter Ashleys banjo plucking and a piano in the background. I could listen to this all day long.
I am a musician too playing classical piano and rock blues guitar. His talent awes me. He didn't read music either but could do it all. What an amazing player.
As a man who grew up in small town Arkansas as Glen did, this absolutely has me crying like a baby. We people from Arkansas respected this man so much and miss him more than anyone can nor will ever know. RIP, Glen, you are "still the man"
We Arkansas women were mighty proud of him too! I spent 50+ years in Hot Springs Arkansas. My sister lived in a small community and Glen would fly his helicopter to the Little area just big enough to him to sit it down and give people money! Of course they all needed what he gave them. You don't hear about anyone doing that these days!
I totally agree about your feelings. I learned about him as a 10 year old from the TV show. That's why I play guitar. And he got me through many many times in my life with the sweet ballads.
When I was 14 yrs old I through he was so good looking loved his music since then . I'm 66 now still think he was great right to the end .. I miss him ...
Love how his daughter is watching over him like she’s ready to jump in and cover if something happens, at the same time giving him room to do his thing......lovely to see his children looking after there Dad.....beautiful.....RIP Glen, the best ever....
Glenn performed this right after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. This was before the disease took hold of his mind. As you can clearly see he is in perfect harmony. His daughter is playing on the banjo. Isn’t this beautiful? I’ll never tire of his voice or his outstanding talent.
I heard Ashley say Glen was struggling with Alzheimer's during the tour so she very intentionally stayed close by his side (as he was aware of his ailment and feared he'd embarrass himself during performances and interviews), but she used her presence to steady him and step into the conversation if he felt flustered or got his thoughts tangled. Very sweet. There's an old saying, "there's nobody more loyal than daddy's little girl."
She was watching him like a hawk. Yes, we girls are certainly loyal to our daddies. I was Daddy's caregiver for 3 1/2 years, 24/7. It was emotionally and physically draining, but I was honored to do it. Nobody would have tended to him as lovingly as I did.
about 1974-75? my friend gave me comp tickets to see Glen at harrahs in lake tahoe--was 23 yo--brought a beautiful date-we waited just before the show began-tipped the guy 5 bucks seating us--he put us in the front row on the side--best seats in the house--while doing the show Glen came right to the edge, knelt down to his knee in front of my girl and sang right to my girl--she was so me blown away, totally melted--we had the best night of our life-thanks Glen
What a horrible disease, you can hear him struggling to find words but as soon as he reverts to music and singing it’s almost like it’s gone. True legend
A little girl from the Caribbean listening to this beautiful voice... Didn't even know what a country song is...just swept away his beautiful voice... Taking care of my best friend now with Alzheimer's now...life.
I am so glad that you liked him. This was in the end of his career. I would ask you to explore his earlier work. Check out his TV show. The Glen Campbell Goodtime hour. That was a 1968 when I was only 11 years old. He had a great personality and a great guitar playing ability. He sang exceptionally well. I almost fell in love with him. But I was too young to do that. But I did start playing guitar at the age of 11
Hello 👋 Donna. How are you doing ? Hope are you fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from. You seem like a real country girl
I'll be 50 this December. Glen Campbell is someone I grew up with literally since I was born. I'm watching this, knowing he didn't have many years left, but he had his very talented daughter there playing along. Yes, as I type this, I'm crying. I miss Glen Campbell. He was a badass. Guys like him, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, all those old school country guitar masters.....they shaped my youth and nudged me towards learning music. "The best heroes....are the flawed ones." -Me, and you can quote it for free.
Glen was a member of the Wrecking Crew. He backed. Elvis, Sinatra etc. Most people have no idea. As a guitar player myself. He totally blows me away. He's a natural.
Luann you are completely correct, I never knew he was considered one of the top 5 guitar players. And now I listen to his music all the time. A true genius!
True brilliance taken by a horrible illness but his daughter was, and is a trully great person supporting her Dad who needed supporting more and more as his disease took hold, God Bless
Her father was my first inspiration to pick up guitar, watching the Glen Campbell Good time hour as a kid. I’m 62 now I played guitar for that many years. I’m retired but still played today . Thanks to this family ! Tears. She was so good to him when his memory started fading….I can see him while she plays! He was the consummate professional player!
Amazing this immensely gifted man kept performing while stricken with Alzheimer’s. He said he had no trouble remembering lyrics or playing guitar and it actually was therapeutic. His family is to be commended for their support and love. What a beautiful legacy to relive on video.
later on, he did start forgetting lyrics so they had a teleprompter help him when he did forget. He would have his daughter and son both on stage to help him. He once forgot that they had just played a song and was going to start it again and his daughter very sweetly reminded him they had already done it. VERY touching to watch him with his kids up there helping him
They say, and he was living proof that Alzheimer patients somehow will forget their own children's names but can ALWAYS remember the music...notes, chords, lyrics... miraculous!!!
I saw him in his farewell tour in Red Bank, NJ. It was heartbreaking. But, he would come alive in the middle of the songs and deliver beautiful guitar work and trademark lyrics. God Rest him.
Nothing to cry about, he lived a long and prosperous life, was very very healthy all the while, changed our lives forever, created memories and so much more. Died a happy man of natural causes and had his voice till the day he passed on.
Mr. Campbell was and is loved by many around the globe. As a kid growing up in a poor country in Southeast Asia, every time I heard him sing By The Time I Get To Phoenix on the Transistor radio, I felt like I was taken to a much better and prettier place and time. Although I couldn’t understand one word of what the song was all about. But Glenn’s voice and his singing told me that it had to be a beautiful song. It still is 45 years later.
trueman, Thanks for your kind words. I have to say that it makes me proud of America that our music ...our songs are known and loved and sung all over the world. Your comment reminded me of that.
I lost my dad this past weekend. When I was four he bought me a '45 of "Rhinestone Cowboy." I played that disc till I broke a piece of it off the side. Mr. Campbell is in my top 5 heroes after my dad. Thanks Glen for being there to infuuence me and take it out on the ball :)
Lost my Dad last year. He was 82. It's his birthday this week. He gave me a love of true music. The real stuff. I remember I was so proud to give him the album with Rhinestone Cowboy on it for his birthday as I knew it was important. Grew up on this kind of music even though it is an ocean away from where I live in NZ
I watch this video pretty often. I never get tired of hearing Glen. He was truly an awesome entertainer and person. I lost a brother in 2017 to Alzheimer’s. It’s an awful disease. To see beautiful, angelic Ashley right there with him and the talent she has and to unashamedly support her Dad is such an inspiration and testimony to who and what she really is.
I was raised on church music. Mom was in the adult choir and was a soloist. She did a lot of weddings and funerals back then. When I turned 13 I decided that I was then a teenager, so I should rebel - and I did it with music. I immediately fell in love with Glen Campbell's singing voice and his wonderful instrumental talent. To do everything he did without reading music was just beyond my comprehension! I loved him on the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, and I was willing to give up anything I needed to in order to be allowed to watch it. When his Greatest Hits album came out I asked Mom why - and she said that not everyone bought all of his albums like I did. I can still hear his beautiful voice and his guitar playing with Larry McNeely's banjo picking in my mind. Peace to all.
The American South has produced some of the greatest song-writers, guitar players and just plain kick-ass artists . So much came out of that unique southern culture and experiences, a lot of it quite humorous. You can tell a country boy's music ninety percent of the time.
Absolutely-an absolute star. Even with dementia he still got out there with his talent because he loved it. It was his life and his soul. Even with dementia the brain knows yours soul. Apparently he was still playing immaculate guitar in the nursing home before he died. Some things stay with you til your last breath.
Unfortunately life doesn't stop for anyone. This man is without a doubt one of the most talented humans to ever live. He really was a gift. Most people don't know how good of a guitar player he really was. He is still with us , but his disease has cheated not only him , but all of us. I thank GOD he was able to share his gift with us if only for a short while. Thank you Glenn for you're musical gift to humanity. You have given so many other musicians a goal to shoot for.
+JOE OHHBOY You are right but disease or life or living gets everyone, Me included not the man I was at forty and shit I am only 52 but got this far so I will not complain....... and I don't think Glenn will either
Lovely sentiments mate. Such a shame to see a person have their abilities taken away from them by age and especially Alzheimer's. My favourite album of Glen's is his Live album from 1969. A little before my time but I still listen to it as I love the live versions of his classics.
Much controversy after Glen's passing but Ashley was instrumental in letting our Rhinestone cowboy ride into the sunset with as much grace as a terrible disease would allow. Bless you young lady! RIP Glenn (Rhinestone Cowboy)
ES, I agree with your analogy of Glen. I could tell by watching Glen glancing over at Ashley during this song, that he was feeling her love and strength. Great job Ashley and Thank You.
I bought a guitar just like his, an ovation, just because he played one! Sweet to see he is playing a black one, cuz thats the one I bought. He was famous for the blue one. I love playing Rhinestone and Wichita. Just had to share that. What a legend Glen Campbell will always remain.
I spent a night sitting with Glen and his band in an all-night coffee shop in SLC, UT in Sept. 1967. Lots of jokes and behind the scenes stories and Glen was a joy to be around. I was a local DJ at the time and we had been one of the first stations to break "Gentle On My Mind" by the writer, John Hartford. Glen's version was on the air 5 minutes after it arrived at the station!!
This is a fabulous memory of Glen. What a great voice and his guitar chops were over the moon. I play and marvel at what he does. Glen is one of the greatest no doubt. It's hard to lose the greats like Glen.
Gentle on My Mind is arguably the best country song ever written. Thanks to John Hartford for composing and Glen Campbell for popularizing it with his great renditions.
Memory: John Hartford. I first knew of him only because he was a writer for the Smother's Brothers Show and scored a couple of on stage performances on that show.
Hi David how are you doing. I hope you are safe and in good health. I'm Patti from California, looking for a new friend and i saw your pic here. I hope you don't mind, thank you.
This performance broke my heart and gave me great joy at the same time. Ashley watched over her Dad and made sure he could hang until the end. What a kid, and what a legend. Thank you, Ashley and Glen. I'm a Dad hoping my kids will help me like this.
I love the way mr Campbell cut the spaker off when mentioning " the lovely blond" - WHAT ARE WE GONNA PLAY? A good father and sure is a musical legend,,,fantastic musician. Look at his shows from back then,, unbelievable.
Can listen to him playing over and over - a true legend. I SO wish I could have seen him in 2010, I had no idea he was over here. My Dad flew to New York in 1967 saw Glen playing in Macy's and bought his LP Gentle on my Mind for me and Glen autographed it and I still have it. he is my ALL time favourite singer. We will meet in Heaven one day because he and I are both Bible Believers. We will come back to earth with Jesus as King to rule with Him for 1000 yrs! No memory loss then Glen! Maranatha!
What an all-around great musician and singer he has a legacy it's hard to beat and he taught his daughter well it's sad though you had to leave us the way you did rest in peace
ive accidently wayched this video several times as i am a Dtroke survivor and Glen Campbell has been one of ,u favorite musicians and hou ta players this was a early video of Glen suffering with Alzheimer’s and that was why Ashley and his son were touring with him they didnt want him to be embarrassed so they helped him out on stage and through the interviews for myself i suffered a lot of Short term memory loss and can only imagine how long term such as Alzheimer’s must be so darn hurtful its sort of a shame because he appears to be so physically healthy my own Father suffered from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease in later life and i saw how frustrated he became 7y
As an Angeleno, Glen was an LA legend as part of the equally legendary Wrecking Crew. I recall his daughter saying that in his last days, he'd play and still knew the words. There's a power in music that transcends old age and even death, and the proof is we're listening now.
I saw him play on that tour, at The Pavilion Theatre if memory serves… it was a privilege to watch a living legend, and no matter that he was not in his heydey, he and his daughter put on a great show. A night to remember 😊
I love how his children looked over him while he was going through this disease. He had to know these kids where beautiful on the inside as they were on the outside. Look how beautiful that girl is. keeping her eye on her daddy loving him up. Little girls love there daddy's as much as little boys love there mom's. Big thanks to those kids for looking out for there dad.
I saw Glen Campbell in concert in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. It was a tremendous event. I even got the chance to shake his hand after the show. Rest In Peace Glen,
I have always loved him for his multiple talents, but was blown away by his personality when I saw him perform with his daughter Ashley in a music festival in 2008 in rural Ontario, Canada. I will never forget that performance. God Bless Glen.
Hi Joe how are you doing. I hope you are safe and in good health. I'm Patti from California, looking for a new friend and i saw your pic here. I hope you don't mind, thank you.
Wow! I just get so choked up. the way they both look at each other. She is such a daddy's girl. eyes are on him. Glen looks back at his baby girl seeing her do what he taught her. What an amazing relationship! Ashley is her fathers daughter for sure! She is a dam great picker in her own wright! Love the Campbell's RIP Sir Glen!
Holed up in 2020 on Easter Sunday. 3 blocks from 88 year old mom who has Alzheimers and is alone at the care center due to COVID19. I watched Glen's documentary and it helped big-time. Thanks Campbells. Sad but bearable. Yes, Glen was big-time talented, Dad used to love the guy. Audience doesn't know how playing helps Glen keep it real.
That man is one of a kind.
Just like Elvis, there will never be another Glenn Campbell
Agree. Gee, Elvis' voice is such a powerful baritone voice and Glen, always a deep favorite as was John Denver.❤ so sad all are gone, but surely all are with Christ.

The Long Goodbye 😢
You are right. But this was not his day.
There was nobody on earth to surpass Glen Campbell in his day. He was truly the greatest
To this day nobody can hold a candle to his guitar playing and vocals…he had more talent in his guitar pinky than most of the yahoos playing today
Roy Orbison, beats him hands down
ROY CLARK!
And Elvis’s guitar player….I can’t remember his name…..
Even now no one comes close
Cute daughter!! Enjoyed your singing and playing on your last tour!! Glad you came here before you left us!! Both you and Olivia Newton John!!

he used to slay this song with a mid-guitar break. he was still able to answer the hosts questions

The tenderness between Glenn and Ashley in this video made me tear up. You can see him just beaming when he looks at her.

When his Greatest Hits album came out I asked Mom why - and she said that not everyone bought all of his albums like I did. I can still hear his beautiful voice and his guitar playing with Larry McNeely's banjo picking in my mind. Peace to all.
I use to listen to Glenn Campbell with my Father So Many Years Ago I Would Say in the 60's and 70's and He is Still Playing Stronger than ever!!!!
This genius has brought pleasure to millions.! RIP Glen.
The American South has produced some of the greatest song-writers, guitar players and just plain kick-ass artists . So much came out of that unique southern culture and experiences, a lot of it quite humorous. You can tell a country boy's music ninety percent of the time.
I'm sure Ashley's heart was ready to burst with pride in her Dad and the honor she shared to accompany him. God bless you.
Hello
Absolutely-an absolute star. Even with dementia he still got out there with his talent because he loved it. It was his life and his soul. Even with dementia the brain knows yours soul. Apparently he was still playing immaculate guitar in the nursing home before he died. Some things stay with you til your last breath.
There will never be another Glenn Campbell.
Not a fan of country music, but I absolutely adore Glen Campbell, what a legend
So many memories! Glen rests peacefully now near his childhood home surrounded by family and friends. RIP cousin.
JOE OHHBOY Dido.....
Extremely well said!
+JOE OHHBOY - I Second That.. !
THANK YOU LORD FOR GIVING US THIS INCREDIBLY TALANTED MAN FOR SUCH A SHORT TIME.WE WILL SEE HIM AGAIN SOON....
Where?
@@4thhorseman9In eternal life. 🇨🇦
Tears fown my face watching thus in 2024....the man ❤❤❤
Much controversy after Glen's passing but Ashley was instrumental in letting our Rhinestone cowboy ride into the sunset with as much grace as a terrible disease would allow. Bless you young lady! RIP Glenn (Rhinestone Cowboy)
What controversy are you referring to?
ES, I agree with your analogy of Glen. I could tell by watching Glen glancing over at Ashley during this song, that he was feeling her love and strength. Great job Ashley and Thank You.
GOD BLESS !!
If ever there was a genuine country music legend, it has to be Glen Campbell. Thank you sir for sharing your beautiful music with us. Utmost respect
A wonderful man,he's alive in the hearts of the world
He has always reminded me of my brother who l adore. God Bless!
Looking after her dad , priceless
I bought a guitar just like his, an ovation, just because he played one! Sweet to see he is playing a black one, cuz thats the one I bought. He was famous for the blue one. I love playing Rhinestone and Wichita. Just had to share that. What a legend Glen Campbell will always remain.
How do you like the sound and playability of that Ovation? Glen sure loved them.
I wish I could like this more than once!
Glen and Jimmy Webb, thank you both.
Hello Stan
This is a fabulous memory of Glen. What a great voice and his guitar chops were over the moon. I play and marvel at what he does. Glen is one of the greatest no doubt. It's hard to lose the greats like Glen.
Gentle on My Mind is arguably the best country song ever written. Thanks to John Hartford for composing and Glen Campbell for popularizing it with his great renditions.
Memory: John Hartford. I first knew of him only because he was a writer for the Smother's Brothers Show and scored a couple of on stage performances on that show.
He was really gifted. Thank goodness for UA-cam.
Hi David how are you doing. I hope you are safe and in good health. I'm Patti from California, looking for a new friend and i saw your pic here. I hope you don't mind, thank you.
Hello
This performance broke my heart and gave me great joy at the same time. Ashley watched over her Dad and made sure he could hang until the end. What a kid, and what a legend. Thank you, Ashley and Glen. I'm a Dad hoping my kids will help me like this.
Hello Carl
Ugh, I was working there, and saw were just making
one of the best singer pf all times have the honor to see him in person wiil never forget it
I love the way mr Campbell cut the spaker off when mentioning " the lovely blond" - WHAT ARE WE GONNA PLAY? A good father and sure is a musical legend,,,fantastic musician. Look at his shows from back then,, unbelievable.
Father and daughter ..both are children of God..so sober and humble too
This is how I will always remember Glen Campbell! 😇
Glen had an angel on his shoulder named Ashley. ❤️
Glen ,What a Talent you are as is your Family , Well Done RIP
Hello paul
Glenn came along at the best time in America and represented what used to be good for the U.S. Those days are gone..
Only the greatest of all time!
I just LOVE the encouraging smile Ashleigh gives her daddy each time he looks at her ❤️🥰
As an Angeleno, Glen was an LA legend as part of the equally legendary Wrecking Crew.
Glen showed the way for the gentleman country singer. I was into rock and roll yet I never missed a chance to listen to his music
They were so wonderful; God bless them for their deeds done on this earth.
Hello Joe
2020 still loving Mr Campbell and his music, His daughter is a talent in her own right.
Glen Campbell was an incredible performer, great songs , great vocals and yes a truly great guitar player
The greatest!...never be another Glen Campbell!
Glen trusted in Jesus. He's now in Paradise playing for his Lord and Savior. ❤️
Yes ! ! His greatest accomplishment
Nothing matters except the music and it's still there. LOVE. LIVE. LOVE.
I’ve always enjoyed listening to Glen Campbell. I saw him and his daughter play on his final tour. He will always be remembered and loved.
Wonderful! Simply wonderful!
