My grandma was an identical twin, born in 1921 before incubators, in rural Alabama. She was 2.5 lbs., her sister, 3.5 lbs. They were 2 months early. Every time they were laid down, they stopped breathing, so someone had to hold them around the clock. They couldn't maintain body temperature either, so they were kept in the front room of the house with the fireplace going-even though it was August & 100° outside! The whole tiny town of Curry helped keep them alive with volunteers holding them & keeping them warm. So glad we have NICUs now, but thankful for that community's kindness back then. My tiny grandma-she was only 4'11"-was so special & one tough little lady! Thnx for another great post, Mama Doctor Jones!

Cindy Cook-The Cook Girls What an amazing story. I’m love hearing birthing stories before we have the blessing of technology we have today. My grandmother had all her babies at home with a midwife except the last babe. The midwife sent for a doctor because my grandmom had pushed for hours, was worn out, and the midwife had tried everything to get the baby about. The doctor came and pulled the baby out but my grandmom was so out of it, she couldn’t remember how. My Aunt had a shaky first month but survived and is still living a full life. The doctor charged them two dollars plus my grand dad gav him a ham which he was famous for. Everyone wanted one of his hams. My aunt always told her brothers and sisters she was worth more than them. She was worth 2 bucks and a ham.

My fraternal twin sat on me in utero. Joke was on him though, because it meant I was born first. I like to call him on our birthday, right when I was born, and tell him about how I remember what it was like when I was his age but so much has happened since then and I've become so much wiser (than him... specifically wiser than him, that's the important part) and then I tell him what he can look forward to when he gets to be my age. I know my mom has said a bunch of times the doctors were really happy when she cried because they were afraid of her lungs not being developed. She's got asthma, but so does my mother. My mom was on a bunch of asthma drugs even while she was pregnant. Talking about the grasping reflex....My 6th baby presented first with a foot at delivery. My midwife shoved that back in and on next check was presenting with a hand. The nurse checking me discovered it, because the baby grabbed her finger with that grasp reflex and she was stuck for a little while. Pressing on the baby's palm will encourage them to let go, but that wasn't really possible for her....eek. There was much excitement at that delivery. They were concerned about cord prolapse etc. I seem to have extra amniotic fluid which allows my babies full movement (even at 9 lbs) and makes it hard for them to engage in the pelvis and allow a normal labor and delivery.

My mother-in-law was told her twins were fraternal for the same reason, but that was over 60 years ago. If the fertilized egg splits very early, there can be two placentas and sacs. She didn't even know she was having twins until the first one was born. When they were adults, they had the same problem and a doctor told me they were identical. I never did tell my mother-in-law that they were identical.

Can you PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT INFERTILITY AND WHAT CAN HELP ESPECIALLY WITH WOMEN WITH ENDOMETRIOSIS AND OTHER DISEASES THAT MAY CAUSE INFERTILITY PROBLEMS OR CAUSE YOU TO NOT GET PREGNANT NATURALLY OR AS SOON AS A YEAR!? It would make me and many others happy. Of course just your knowledge not diagnosis or anything. Lol 😃

She won't answer medical questions but my advice as a mom of 2 who struggled with infertility, take the time to learn your individual cycle. According to everything I read ovulation should happen around day 14 BUT I learned through cervical mucus and ovulation tests that even with a 28-29 day cycle I actually ovulate around day 16-17. We wasted time trying too early. Good luck and lots of baby dust!

Krystle Poulin lol thank you I don’t want her to answer my personal questions just to educate us about it. And I did girl for a couple years I learned everything possible about how conception works, my cycles, using temping and opks and prenatal and folic acid. Apparently not all prenatals would have enough folic acid so I take 2 folic acid supplements a week. I’ve learned it all. Down to checking my cervix, checking CM, cramping around O time and having sex every other day during my fertile window. I have a app right now that has all of that logged and my period for the past 3 years. It so much harder than I could imagine. I did talk to my doctor about everything I do and take and he’s run blood test and of course my progesterone is low so I’m taking supplements for that too for over a year. And I desperately want another baby. It’s all in gods hands now. But but I’d love to hear what mama doctor jones has to say about it. She’s awesome at explaining and making sure we know. But thanks girl.

I have PCOS and went on a reduced carb diet and metformin. It took over a year for my period to get straightened out, but I went on to have 6 kids. Unfortunately my sister didn't start trying to have kids until her 30's and hasn't been successful with the same diagnosis. I lost about 50 lbs in total and have managed to keep it off even 8 years after my last kid. Lowering your weight and insulin levels helps your body use your hormones better. I still have symptoms, but I was grateful my doctor explained the insulin connection to me, because that didn't hit mainstream medical practice until about 5 years later.

Its interesting to think about 'Grethan'. Like what identical twins would have been if not separated
