Time/darkness/sky are my absolute favourite pokemon games ever. Hopefully they'll come to the Switch one day. The Sea of Time music is so nostalgic for me and the pain.
i've just finished the main story of sky on emulator, brings back so many memories and i even wept at the end, as always! there's also a romhack called Explorers of Sky: Remixed (which is the only reason i myself can play pmd2sky due to emulator issues with the base rom) which is a fresh change of pace on the original with minor story changes (mostly swapping characters for self-inserts which imo is fine), lots of new pokemon (going up to gen 9 but not all 1000+), some new moves etc. it's very fun and i defo recommend it!!
@@shanesloth4419 I liked how there's 2 stories. Pre credits and post credits. And extra on top. I know there's a rom hack where u play Groyvle as a Treeko and Dusknoir as a Duskull. A prequel to the 2 MD. And it is very good to give the back story to those 2 chars
@@gemmabarnes I always did kinda want an alternate PMD2 where we kinda start as Grovyle instead or we got to see Grovyle and the Human character plotting with Celebi and whoever else, to then go and grab the Time Gears in the past and get caught by Dusknoir, ending with you pushing Dusknoir back into the Dimensional Wormhole and telling the former-Human now-Pokemon that this was always the plan, we were always meant to disappear. God my heart aches now just writing about it 😂
@shanesloth4419 There's another UA-camr called Zwiggo who played a rom hack called A Dark Past. But it is well worth the watch because you see how it could of been before you land on the beach in the 2nd MD. Dialga, Darkrai, Groyvle as a Treecko, Dusknoir as a Duskull and new chars along the way to the start of the game. Real good.
Yes there is a way to tell if you can recruit pokemon in a dungeon- if you pause and check the "recruit" option, it will tell you which pokemon in the dungeon can currently be recruited. If it's a dungeon where you cannot currntly recruit, it will also tell you that there.
11:20 There's a "Recruitment List" option you can access inside dungeons that shows you who can be recruited. I think it was within the "Other" option on the menu, or something like that.
I think it's implied that PMD is set in a location that humans have long abandoned, which is why some of the friend areas are abandoned power plants, labs, ruins or water mills. It's also stated in other pokemon media that Ninetales can live for a very long time, so it wouldn't be surprising if Ninetales was from that era.
My headcanon is that PMD takes place in an alternate timeline where AZ's Ultimate Weapon (from X/Y) successfully fired and wiped out almost all of humanity, leaving Pokemon as the dominant species on the planet. Humans still exist in this timeline, but there aren't many left and they're isolated to only a few safe areas, meaning there are plenty of Pokemon-only societies like the ones in the PMD games.
Blue rescue team was the launch pad for so much of my life and ways of thinking, what got me into the whole "isekai" genre, my facination with psychology, and what single handly cemented my all time favorite pokemon: Gardevoir,... that ending... it's one thing to read pojedex entries but it's another to see them play out and the consequences of... long live the true "Guardian Angel" pokemon: Gardevoir, may you find your happiness in your future endevors
the most powereful link move combos are typically ones you dont put on partner pokemon because they can use it from behind. for example, in my current Sky run, i have Charge->Discharge for massive damage, my partner has Nasty Plot -> Flamethrower and will constantly use it on my behind and burn a reviver seed LMAO
@@nellewoodruff6337 im not 100% on that either, i know about non-traitor but that only mitigates damage from confused or cowering teammates. perhaps i will stumble upon it as i force feed my dudes gummies
Linked moves are insane and fun to play with. So many moves that you'd never think about end up being too powerful. In PMD1, you can create an Attract + Double Slap combo and cheese everything as a tiny Skitty. I'm currently playing as a Meowth, and Screech + Fury Swipes is practically cake walk. It's never gonna be not funny.
I spent so much time playing the mystery dungeon games as a kid i still play them often today they are so amazing i hope we get a new mystery dungeon game for the switch or its next gen version

There are many mechanical changes introduced with the 3d PMD entry, which i despise (removing regular attacks is the worst offender). Also i love the 2d spriteart style of pmd1 and 2. So sky is in my opinion the best one. it feels the most pmd like to me. (I played super and the remaster and they both felt meh, the remaster introduced even more stuff i dislike, what is wrong with leveling in this game? It doesnt make sense)
My uncle gave me his copy of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon as a kid. I loved it, and also I'm french, and in the french version, Team Meanies is call Team Perfidious, which I think is so much cooler than just "meanies" and carries the idea that they're evil a lot better.
The Red Rescue Team soundtrack is actually a bit different from the Blue Rescue Team soundtrack as the DS had a slightly better soundchip. I played Blue Rescue Team so much as a kid, and it definitely made me cry
Pmd red rescue team was the first video game whose story made me cry. Like 11 year old me full on sobbing at my totally real gba that definitely wasn't actually my pc because a friend showed me what emulation was a few weeks prior
Ah Mystery Dungeon. How I love you. Sky still remains up there as one of my favorite Pokémon games of all time. Also, a bit of a hot take, I loved the Rescue Team DX remake. It’s my second favorite PMD game.
And Mystery Dungeon has ever since been a great inspiration for Pokémon as a whole or rather copy. The story of Legends Arceus is actually the same as the first PMD game. And also the Delta Story in ORAS.
God I love PMD. Shoutout to my PMD guide that has severe water damage and half the recruitment list missing but if I ever throw it out you will have to throw me out with it (I would rather die than get rid of this dilapidated treasure) Also shoutout to the old Wonder Mail Generator where you could generate a rescue mission for Tiny Woods B2 and get a Joy Seed + Friend Bow + Reviver Seed as rewards.
the first pmd games released just when pokemon exaustion hit me so i missed the train on them and honestly ive never been able to get into them afterwards. but i know i would of been all over them if they had released when i was at the right age in the gen 1 or 2 era .
I will defend Pokemon RS Pinball. I had that one, and it was a really fun game. Pokemon is "just" a monster catcher game, after all, but it sells well because it's fun. It isn't the genre of the game, it's the execution.
I would actually recommend playing Pokemon Pinball R&S. I’ve been playing it a lot recently trying to complete the dex. It’s still fun after all these years.
These games play like the Chocobo Mystery dungeon games PS1 but for those Square Enix games NONE of them LEFT Japan so the dungeon maps are randomly generated every time you ENTER them what isn't random is the total FLOORS each one has.
PMD has special place in my gaming heart. I actually like it better than the main series now. It's cute, charming, funny, emotional, a roller coaster of feelings. It's not so much of the gameplay itself, but more about the story And the good part is that all Pokemon in this series are viable to use. Even weak ones like Magikarp, thanks to different stat mechanics and regular attacks
i remember being so excited to get PMD Red and Blue and when I went to the shops they only had Blue. To this day, I have yet to see a physical copy of PMD Red, I refuse to believe it actually existed 🤣🤣
@shanesloth4419 I just about still have a physical copy of Red Rescue Team- I say that because a few years ago my brother's terrier decided to pick it up and give it a bit of a chew. The cartridge now looks worse for wear and has dents and bit marks, though miraculously it still works 🤣
