- 5 multitrack recordings of the Roland SH-5. All sounds are made with the SH-5. In track 3 the SH-5 is complemented by the RS-202 Strings Synthesizer, recorded through the external input of the SH-5. All processing in Ableton Live.
Audio tracks are available at rimela.bandcamp.com/album/rol...
Stems are available at payhip.com/b/invqJ
The first part is one of the best synth demos ever.
Thank you very much!
Fantastic music. It's all here, all your influences, and your own touch
I know why your music is so good: it's because your synths are alive! 🥰
Thank you Lania
That opening track is a belter! Lovely work.
Thank you!
Wow!!! Honestly I checked this out after I saw Begringer clone demo today but damn forget that this demo is one of the best I've ever seen. The build is epic. It's the player behind any synth that is the true magic. Beautiful video 😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much Frank!
Suuuper demo!!!
The sh-5 might be one of the coolest monosynth ever 😍
Thanks! And yes, have to agree on that!
Wow, lovely! I take my space helmet off for you, Rimela. Interesting compositions and well crafted. Excellent music.
Thank you so much!
This makes me almost cry and gasping for air. Out of joy.
Thanks Marcus
Even on my phone speakers. Sounds pretty epic
Great idea to offer the stems! Wish more people did this.
This is such a sweet, classical Berlin-school assembly (especially the first piece) and a true joy to listen to. A lovely tribute to a lovely synth of a lovely musical era; thank you!
Thanks Robert!
Sounds absolutely massive!
Thank you so much!
Best youtube SH-5 demo 👌
Thank you! 🙏
Fantastic music, thank you very much for your effort. This machine and the SH-7 are truly mythical synths and I only saw them once. Masterpieces.
Thank you 🙏
Excellent music... thank you for sharing...
Thank you Mark!
Best SH-5 demo on YT so far! Love it!
Wow thank you Stefan!
This is a really lovely journey. I love how you built this up a piece at a time.
Thank you Michael!
Great sounds ♥
Gorgeous
Thanks!
This is beautifully edited, sounds amazing.
Thank you Jean!
Great!😍
Suono Meraviglioso e Bellissima Sequenza ... Grazie 🙏
Prego 🤗 Grazie Alessandro
Very nice, I had a SH01 , sounded great, 05 was excellent ;)
Awesome demo's man.. Must've been a lot of work to make all these. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! It did indeed take some work, but it was fun work.
This is a dream translated into music.
Thank you!
Lovely stuff. Getting a Tangerine Dream vibe
Tangerine dream did use one, but of course they basically used every synthesizer that was produced. Back in ancient times when magazines were a thing several of them did quite in depth articles and interviews on the setups and the evolution of their setups.
Thanks! I wasn't aware TD used one, but on the other hand I'm not surprised they did. TD is great, even today (saw them perform last June).
Thank you for the nostalgia session! I loved my SH-5 back in the day, but it got the dreaded oscillator drift and after 2 futile "repairs" I replaced it with an SH-7, which I found restricting in comparison. Way too heavy for lugging around to gigs, but nice to see and hear one again. Cheers.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice.
Thanks!
Hey there! Awesome tracks done here! Care to comment how many tracks you multitracked in total, on average and we’re all these tracks only SH-5? Keep on at it! 🤟
Thanks! On average 10-12 layers. All SH-5. In the third track I used the RS-202 processed in SH-5 via external input. All individual recorded dry audio tracks are available at payhip.com/b/invqJ
Fantastisch!
Ha dank je Emiel!
Very cool 🎵👌💪🏼✌🏼
Thanks!
Klinkt goed Ridzert! Mooie opbouw ook!!
Ha dank je Annemarie!
molto interessanti le progressioni di questo R
Liked and shared. I was already subscribed
Thanks David!
Excellent Music. Reminds me of Human League Reproduction
I loved my sh-2 favourite mono synth, can't afford one of these, will have to get the Behringer one when it's out
me too
Today is your day, it can be pre-ordered at Thomann :) I hope it's just as good as the original!
😍😍😍😍😍😍
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤩🤩🤩
Why didnt this get more likes? Are people stupid? How can you not like this? Absolutely fantastic.. Thanks
Thank you and I absolutely agree on that :)
Got the stems!
Hi Marcus, great! Please share your thoughts on them. Thanks!
First of all I'd like to thank you for your extensive reply (Teisco video, Eno's suitcase synth,)
Somehow your compositions touch on themes and progressions from the synth's era but without obvious references to any particular tune ("Dr. Who-ish qualities" sounds like an accusation of theft wrapped in a compliment, I mean well though).
Browsing your channel after subbing I noticed you're from The Netherlands too.
The collection of synths featured in your videos is impressive; your ability to get the most out of them would either indicate that they're yours, or that you're able to adept and adjust very fast through intuition and experience, with a great ear for sweet spots.
Given the fluidity I go with the latter.
Are there any synths that would make your must do list?
Btw. what coincidence: I've lived in Delft for most of my life.
Thanks and you're welcome Jair!
And yes, I'm fortunate to still have almost all of those synths. Though, I've come to realize there's a limit in holding on to synths or acquiring more even. Luckily, a solution presented itself, enabling me to keep on doing new demo's of new machines. You'll see in my next video.
A must do list? Not really, I'll see what comes on my path. If you have suggestions you're welcome to e-mail me at: loopfactory@gmail.com
The beginning reminds me of Kampfbereit by Front 242.
They used a Roland System 100 I believe, which is from the same era. The Geography album is fantastic by the way.
This is awesome ! - interesting to hear the SH lineage. I wonder how much of this could be recreated on an SH-4D ?
Thanks! I have no plans on trying out a SH-4D (didn't even know this new machine) but who knows someday...
They are worlds apart, I think,
but you can make music with it too.
brilliant demo, shows the real capabilities and versatility of the sh5.... what are you using a a sequencer, if at all?
Thanks! For sequencing I used several methods: I used Ableton sending midi notes via a MIDI-CV/gate interface (the Dotcom Q104). Also I used several analogue sequencers: the Moon Modular 569, the Dotcom Q960.
Do you track with preamp?
Obviously, you're very skilled to make every synth sound so good, but I'm just wondering what your tracking chain is. Thanks
Thanks! I track with Mackie 32 8 bus (direct out, no EQ) using Allen & Heath ICE-16 audio interface (16bit, 44,1k Hz)
Great job again !
Do you like this better than the SH-7?
I replaced my ailing SH-5 with the duophonic SH-7 but never bonded with it and sorely missed my 5, though I didn't miss the insane weight of it!
Thank you! There was already a question on which one I would choose. I think it would have to be the SH-7. But both the SH-5 and SH-7 are way on top of my favorites list.
@@rimelawell, I bought my SH-7 after watching the video you did on it.
I still think it is one of your very best.
Hi Rimela, I am curious as you have played both the SH-7 and the SH-5.... IF.. you had to choose one over the other?!
Thanks
That's a tough one. I have had the SH-7 for about 5 years now and the SH-5 for only 7 weeks. I'm really impressed with the SH-5. The filter configuration is fantastic! But if I really had to choose between the two, I believe it would have to be the SH-7.
@rimela Thanks a mill Rimela for the reply. The SH-7 would have the edge for me too from listening to both of your performances. I really enjoy your content.
😊 THANKS
Did you use some special analog sauce for recording, or mastering? Like transformers, tubes...?
Nope, just SH-5 straight into Ableton Live, only standard effects (compression, eq, delay, reverb) from Ableton, also on the masterbus (multiband compression).
@@rimela You did a good job there, I think. Are these also on the stems? If I mix them together, will I get close to the quality of your mix? Could you maybe share the tools and settings you use?
But not urgent.
@@marcusfreeweb The stems are the raw audio recordings. Which Ableton version do you use? If you have 10 or later I could send the projectfiles.
@@rimela This is very kind of you. I have Live 11 Suite.
What's your favorite SH ? SH7 or SH5 ?
Really difficult question. I’m leaning towards the 7.
Absolutely hated the old used video tape FX at the beginning.
The sounds are great!
I've always wanted one.
That even when Behringer release the clone I still probably won't be able to afford one.
Amusing that you colored it so that it's the colors that Behringer was planning on using.
Please put out some more clips. If I hate your visual presentation I'll simply look away because I definitely enjoy the music and will play this three or four times in a row.
Thanks for putting up a nice soundtrack.
Thank you for your honest feedback!
The audio tracks are available at rimela.bandcamp.com/album/roland-sh-5
This sounds like a VST
this is excellent music
Thank you! 🙏
