    Thanks. You do nice work. EG4's whole lineup has changed a lot in the last year. Almost every product is new or improved. Makes me wonder what new products they have coming down the pipeline. Come winter, we will be buying a big inverter and big battery.

    • @GavinStoneDIY
      @GavinStoneDIY  4 місяці тому +1

      They do keep improving things for sure. I would say just keep your eye out.
      Sometimes it’s hard to decide when to get on the ride because you don’t want to make the wrong choice. That’s one good thing about these products. Most of the innovation is geared towards making things easier, while at the same time being compatible with the previous generation of gear.

    Looks like some very nice changes! They solved most of the annoyances I've had with my set of original lifepower4 batteries. Easier firmware updates, double terminals, bigger bus bar connection cables, folding handles, slots instead of holes on the mounting brackets... Nice work EG4, really appreciate the effort here to improve the battery. The only thing I'd still love to see would be internal heating 🙏

    • @GavinStoneDIY

    Thanks Gavin! What about that comm cable so V1 and V2 can communicate? Looks like you stripped back outer sheath and prolly just snipped brown and brown/white? Pins 7 and 8 on a Cat 5, 5e or 6 cable should be the same pinout, correct?

    • @GavinStoneDIY
      @GavinStoneDIY  4 місяці тому

      I snipped all but the 7-8. So that’s brown white and brown you need.
      Yes the pinout should be the same on those. The manual does explain it also. The online guide is better.

    • @andrewbox2691
      @andrewbox2691 4 місяці тому

      @@GavinStoneDIY Ah disregard my other comment, so you only need pins 7 and 8, and that's all? I must just be slow b/c I've looked in the manual and the parallel setup guide and don't see anything about changed pinouts for the batt comms jumper cable. Although there's some stuff about RSD which is hard to parse but perhaps is what is being talked about. Thanks.
      Edit - I think I had the wrong manual version, I found the section that shows pinout now, and it just says 7 and 8 for both v1 and v2 apparently, so that was the big thing I was missing. Glad you set me down the right track. Much appreciated. Liked and subscribed.

    I think it says a lot that EG4 is working to design backwards compatibility into new products so they can be added to already existing systems. Some companies Intentionally don’t do this to force you into scrapping your existing products to buy new ones. Quite an improvement over the V1 model! 👍

    • @GavinStoneDIY
      @GavinStoneDIY  4 місяці тому +1

      Yeah I meant to mention this in the video. The build quality and design of the battery is solid. But also the work they’ve put into it to make it compatible with older models is impressive. Like you pointed out, it’s not necessarily something they had to do. But it’s going the extra mile.

    It seems like the rss needs to shut down the older version battery for it to be useful.

    • @GavinStoneDIY
      @GavinStoneDIY  4 місяці тому

      That may be something they can manage. At this point I don’t believe that’s possible.
      Although I get your point, in basically every other way they’ve made these new units compatible with the old. So I suppose there is always going to be some type of constraint as you continue to improve and innovate.

    Good info Gavin, that was the first big question is would they communicate with the older versions, and you proved that they will. But what are all of the advantages of incorporating this new version as your primary with an older stack.

    • @GavinStoneDIY
      @GavinStoneDIY  4 місяці тому

      CAN communication is faster. So technically you’ll get your battery data slightly quicker. For some people that may not matter as much. Coms with the new chargverter would be another plus. You wouldn’t need a communication hub.
      I guess those would be the main things that stand out to me.

    Just FYI to those that that own the original EG4 3000 AIO (yellow inverter), battery communications does not work properly with these V2 batteries.
    I've been in talks with SS Tech support and currently they've confirmed this issue and are looking to possibly update the firmware.
    I've tried the cable mod presented on this video but it still does not recognize the pack using the battery hub with r485 communications running the v1.12 firmware.
    I'm going to do a few tests with the BMS Test software and see if the 1/2 pinouts will work with the V2 batteries but so far I have not been successful at integrating this into my pack because of the communications issue with the inverter.
    My setup:
    EG4 3000 AIO V1
    EG4 LP4 V2
    EG4 LP4 V1
    EG4 LP4 V1
    I do have the EG4 Hub that works perfectly fine with the V1s running v1.12.

    • @GavinStoneDIY
      @GavinStoneDIY  3 місяці тому

      Yeah I’ve seen them make an announcement about this.
      I’ve gotten the coms to work between 3k and the V2. The first time I tried it wasn’t difficult. Then when I checked again it didn’t connect. I finally was able to replicate it quite a few times. But it did take some work. I had to keep cycling through the dip switches.

  • @andrewbox2691
    @andrewbox2691 4 місяці тому

    Oh man you skipped the thing I was wanting to see lol - exactly why does using it with a v1 cause the v2 to alarm? What pins need to be present, vs absent, on the cat6-like cable? I can't figure this out and the manual just says "put protoocol dips 5 and 6 to down to use with a v1", which of course doesn't work, it just shuts off.
    If you don't mind, can you share more about that v2 v1 shutoff issue? I've got a v2 and v1 sitting in my rack and not able to be used until I figure this out. Thanks! Great video btw!

    • @GavinStoneDIY
      @GavinStoneDIY  4 місяці тому

      I thought I added that? I’ll have to check the video now. I made my own cable. Pins 7-8 are the wire you keep on the Ethernet cable.
      The other pins in the cable 3-5 are for CAN communication. And those cause the tripping. So either make your own. Or clip all but 7-8 out of the coms cable that came with it.
