To me what's missing in this Orlando version is the first part of the Anaheim version... Going through the bayou village at night with the cabins, the crickets, the banjo playing out on the front porches, etc. Its a really nice scene before the rest of the ride
The bayou is supposed to act as a bridge between New Orleans Square and your journey out into the Caribbean. At WDW the ride is in Adventureland so the bayou doesn't fit that theme. The queue is actually kind of cool as it is made up to look like you are walking through a Caribbean fort.
And the drops at Disneyland serve a practical purpose, which is to get the boats under the railroad tracks and into the show building on the outside of the tracks. The ride at Disneyland is also longer. Both are still super cool.
Grace Dunbar i hope i’m not too late but it isn’t scary. you’ll get that little feeling in your gut when you drop, almost like butterflies in your stomach, but the drop lasts for probably 2 seconds. it’s just a little unexpected is all.

I don't care for the ride as much as I used to due to all the changes they've done. The ride was first; don't know why they had to change it to match the movie.

I am not sure, because I haven't been on that ride in 17 years, but it looks like there were quite a few changes made since then. I remember the "scary" part differently. The skeleton at the helm was there, but it was darker at that part and there was wind, rain, thunder, and lightning and the voice said something about "rough water" or something like that, then there was a quick drop through a dark segment. That was always my favorite part. Looks like they've made it a little more coddling for little kids.
Fun easter egg on this ride - at 0:58 the rocks on the middle left of the cave/beach opening look like a skull. As the boat drifts to the right, you can see it's an illusion created by several rocks lined up just the right way to shape a skull if you look at it right.
At 2:25 during the cannon scene I remember they used to shoot fireballs straight across, and this one time one of the fireballs actually hit me right in the face. The best way I could describe it was a big ball of really cold air, making my eyes dry up.
I didn’t get to go on it because it was like out of order something I don’t know if it wasn’t working but I’m I went on the frozen ride they took a picture in my face was like very shocked because I got water all in my shoes and I went on small world like a bunch of times like five I’m not sure like every single day my mom’s like want to go on small world

She gently lays her head on my shoulder as the ride progresses. We remain together like this until the end of the ride, where we step out of the boat, hands still together, and begin walking to wait at thunder mountain!" That's my dream trip to this ride!
So, they make this change to the auction scene, but keep the poor town mayor being tortured with drowning in the well, and his wife getting shot at. Sure. That makes lots of sense.
LloronasCollection Of course they did, and the Auction scene is historical accurate as well. So my comment is asking why they felt the need to change ONE scene that people were finding offensive, but not the other.
The indication in the Cali version is that the redhead eventually became their queen so it never bothered me as much as it could have, but to me it's nice to see her as a pirate. However I think the better path would be to keep it the same and maybe have some guys captured by female pirates too. That way it doesn't look so much like every woman in this ride's universe is useless.
Yeah I'm a feminist as well and I think it's really stupid to change the redhead scene. It's iconic tbh. I prefer historically accurate over politically correct because as seen here, politically correct and historically accurate don't always get along with each other.

Yeah, it was cool that they kept an iconic character and the structure of the scene rather than just removing it. At first I felt like the items were a weird choice for pirates to bid on (where are they going to put a grandfather clock and a giant painting in their small ship quarters?), but you could ask the same thing about sex slaves (what captain is going to allow a bunch of non-sailors onboard a ship with limited food and space?).
