Good job Matt I have been repairing these booms and other makes for 38 years now and the one piece of advice I would like to pass on to you is … get yourself a safety harness. People have been killed using boom lifts. Especially when driving them and the wheels run over a hump or drop into a hole, it will catapult you out of the basket. Plenty of videos on here showing what can happen
That is cool Matt! Great Job. I spent hundreds of hours in a lift exactly like that one when I was a painter. I wrapped the beepers in duct tape so they didn't kill my eardrums. I could still hear them but it didn't feel like someone was inserting a needle into my brain.
Put your machine on a known level surface and check the bubble, if the bubble is not in the center ring and your sure your surface is level adjust the four nuts on top of the springs until the bubble is in the middle, now your sensor is adjusted properly.
When you were fussing with that battery at the beginning....been there many times. I've found that if you bite the bullet, slow down and spend some time, it pays off. 1st, spray the terminal connector bolts with penetrating oil before starting. Then when off, clean them up with a wire wheel and grease the threads. 2nd, when they won't tighten down on the new battery, pull the bolts, spread the "arms" of the terminal and use a file to cut metal away from the facing surfaces. Then when you tighten them, they'll bite solidly without having to try shims. The wire "shims" won't last long and they provide a place for corrosion to start.
just a little tip. clean air filters from the inside, when cleaning from the outside, it cleans... but can also inbed dirt into the filter. from the inside it just push away the dirt s they came.
I’ve operated these for years you have to drive the lift in the foreward position with the front arrow pointing foreward the leveling system won’t work unless the boom is in the back of the machine that’s why it keeps beeping at you, so drive with the boom in the back and the arrows on the front pointing foreward
I bought my Z34-22 back in 2016, so nice to have that for many applications, a bit difficult to move it because of the weight. But I'm happy with the machine.
What was inoperable about it? A couple of switches, oil change and battery, then do a maintenance check. Where did you get it? I want a couple of inoperable lifts too!
An old trick that always use for battery terminals is,...Completely remove the bolts on both clamps, then spread them slightly. Then you are safe to tap them on with a mallet. Then reinstall the bolts and snug them up. Nice machine.
Frequently, machines in the inop row are the best deal, especially when the auction house has acres of stuff to sell, and they move on quickly. On the limit switch you replaced, did you not notice the mounting bracket was removable? Two bolts into tapped holes. If the wire is still in good shape, you should be home free! That particular limit switch appears to inhibit high speed travel. The "deedle-deedle beep is a danger warning, triggered in you're in a dangerous position...as a certain amount off level, or extended too far when working off the side. Yes, it is annoying, but so is turning the thing over! It is an important safety device...DON'T mess with it!
Matt, i just happened across your channel. I just love your video and the calm peaceful way you sort stuff out. I wish we had had something like this at work before retiring. I could have got so much more work done, especially the guttering in difficult to reach places, and with less hassle.
enjoy your genie boom lift, a whole different world to learn so far you're doing just fine genie does have manuals on their site if you need help, they are free ;o) (but remember they don't tell you every detail but they should be helpful enough)
20:52 word from an oldie- please don’t grab a bunch of wires then get the music to suddenly blast out - it really did almost give me a heart attack- fortunately my wife was close by. Other than that I have just found your channel- it looks interesting so good luck to you on the way forward. Although my window box is to small to warrant heavy equipment I do enjoy watching these types of vids.
Kewl Vidio.....I'm not as familiar with Geni as I am with JLG products; however, I have a lot of time with Deutz....especially the blf series 1011/2011. One person below suggested timing belt replacement. Very wise to keep up with that task. Motor non-integral. You can get a pin set off Flee Bay cheap or make it yourself with a small lathe. The belt changes easily. The motor is highly rebuildable unless you damage the crank. Crank has a lot of work in it. These OIL-cooled motors are tough! They strap these to generators and throw them down mine shafts. Oil cooler on top of motor expensive. I think the last one I got was almost 1200. The belt looked too wide. Might squeal early on ya. Be careful and thanks for the video. If you need help let me know. (Not a solicitation/Retired) Jeff S.
That toggle switch can go in either way around. The centre wire would be the power in and the other 2 wires would be power out. Depending on which way the 2 output wires get the current, the controller will either run the pump in forward or reverse.
I my scissor left usually just jammin forward and then start to come back in the stick jem it forward again that's your your second speed it picks up the pace
That oil plug with the crush washer has a torque spec. Smell your oil to smell if it has diesel in it, if you smell diesel you may have other issues, should not have diesel in your oil.
Random question, that I haven't been able to find an answer to. I need to replace my starter on my Z60; how much does the engine actually pivot out of the way..? Thanks. Dave
Matt, those cylinders have closely placed fins around them, and they're opposite each other. This is known as a horizontally opposite piston engine. After the air filter, there's ducting, which surrounds those two cylinders. Oh, I nearly forgot. The crankshaft pulley has a belt that spins a blower, which delivers air in through shrouding, which additionally travels between those fins, cooling them. How do I know this? I was studying automobiles since 1982, which was my second year of high school.
Clearly you got a auto parts house that is clueless, all they had to fdo is give you a pick up truck battery of the same sixe,I have done this alot working on logging equipment,Woorks the same and is a better option since it is similar battery just a bit of difference of the terminal set up. Pretty cool project.
Use those channel lock pliers to squeeze the terminal’s sides to make them smaller loosen the bolts install then tighten the bolts. Maybe instead of a new battery, just terminal repair would have saved you money. Snug is not good enough for battery terminals tight is right.
@@TurkeyLakePublicWorks That really isn't a lot for that machine. After all, it's a 60 ft boom not a 30 or 45 ft so it really is cheap. Prices of machinery in Europe are wild now and getting one of those bad boys for that kind of money is basically impossible.
Matt, do you want to know the reason why those designers do that? They are told by the bean counters (the accountants) of those companies to cause a simple fix to become complicated. Why would that want to do that so the person who owns the machine to bring it to the dealership to have it fix. Why would they do that? So that the company will be given the money to have it fixed. This will allow both the companies to stay in business. This was happening for possibly more than a hundred years. Ford doesn't want it to be that way any more. Why not? Dealership fee's and them setting their own priced for a vehicle. As for the place where that equipment came from, it was possibly originally sold well past the MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) of that lift.
What a rush! Recommend you put 100' of rope in a bag and perhaps a repel harness somewhere in the bucket, so if it breaks down you can get down and they don't find you like the guy in Tremors, dead up a power pole !
It's the same as before. They want you to visit the dealership to have it serviced by their technicians. Do you want to know why it was beeping incessantly? You shouldn't move it while that box is up I the air. It does that so you stay safe. Yes, it annoying, except it's mandatory. This is due to the fact that the government wants to maintain control of those companies. All you need to do is to put it in different positions and remember when thst beeping happens. Not all those positions will solicit those beeps.

It's definitely annoying! The only reason I haven't removed it is because it only beeps when the wheels are moving.

Always blow your air filter from the inside out...blowing from the outside in pushes the dirt further into the filter.
that hydraulic gauge is both thermometer and fill level. oil level needs to be at the arrow marks, not related to the temperature reading.

Maybe the beeping is from the angle of the extended portion of the boom that holds the basket….perhaps it should be vertical for no beeps?
probably should have put some new battery terminals on there with that new battery
It should have outriggers. Possibly hydraulic on each wheel?
I would have tried some lube on that switch before replacing it. Maybe some silicone or some other dry lube.
If you carefully pinch the fuel line with locking channel locks you don’t loose that much fuel everywhere

Another new subscriber from the U.K., how do you get down if the engine fail, don’t work alone I suppose!!
It uses the battery to lower the basket in case of an engine failure
Also most lifts have a manual valve in the basket to bleed off the pressure to allow the bucket to go down even if everything fails.
