Garry it is an awesome and stunningly beautiful vase, I am crazy about segmented work there is just something so special and wonderful about it. Thank you for sharing it.
The quality of your work never ceases to amaze me, Gary! Brilliantly turned and an absolutely flawless finish. Another great video, my friend. Stay safe and healthy and I look forward to your next video. 👍👍😎😎 Take care, .....Gord
Thank you Gord for those very kind words. The next one will be seasonal but after that will be one that is a bit rough around the edges...like me..lol So we have been on a bit of heavy restrictions but they say next week it will open back up a little. I hope to get out to my hardwood store and pick up a stack of wood for a non turning job. It will be ok in the morning it is a huge store and a work day for most. But if it is raining I will wait. No canopy on my truck. Take care my friend, Gary
This is wonderful. How anybody could give this vid a thumbs down is either extremely jealous of your hard work, talent, and perfection or a very negative person. :)
WOW! Your hours of patient and careful work have created a simply stunning masterpiece! I've done several segmented turnings, which I was very happy with, but they only had maybe 2 dozen segments, tops... nowhere near the 795 pcs in this superb vase. Anyway, you have inspired me to try some more ambitious projects. By the way, the solid mahogany (?) base and cap are perfect choices! They really help accent the design.
Thank you Walter I appreciate your comments. For sure it was involved and as I said in the video I am willing to share the plans if anyone wants to try. And I have drawn it up with less pieces and easier to do. Yes that was a very pretty piece of Mahogany. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thank You Gary....WOW....Very impressive show. Fun and interesting how the process was thought & created. You have so many interesting projects coming from your active imagination. .....TM
Many thanks tuffy I am happy you liked it. I do enjoy doing these types of turnings. I like to switch back to pieces of wood that help to choose what they become though. Take care, Gary
I like your vase , it's beautiful . I too make segmented bowls . I use the large hose clamps like yours . put down some blue tape put your segments edge to edge glue all the edges like you do . grab both ends of the tape bring the two ends together , put the clamp together tap them flat wipe glue let dry . rinse and repeat . I did a small production run cut all segment pieces I glued 150 rings in a day by myself . hope this helps
Thank you very much Terry. I have used the tape method as well. Mostly on larger segments. I do not glue them all at once because I will glue some onto the base of the turning on the lathe and by the time I get another ring glued up I can flatten the ring on the base and so on. Have you ever used the rope clamps? Works like a tourniquet. Saw it on Earls segment shop video. I use them as well. Thanks for the tips they are excellent ideas. Gary
If I lived in your neighbourhood I would spend all my free time with you in your workshop trying to learn this craft 🤗🤗 Do you give classes ? If not you should , your work is apsoulately in an other world 👍
Thank you John, i appreciate your comments. The only thing I have done was to try and help others by showing how I do it and I have shared my plans for what I come up with. As a matter of fact I did on this one as well. I think it would be fun to teach someone in person how to. As a wood patternmaker I worked with a number of apprentices along the way. Years later they would tell me how much some little trick of the trade helped out. Thanks for watching, Gary
I am always very impressed with segment work. And this one is also a beautiful one. Maybe one day ....... You never know if I will succeed🤔. For now I will continue to enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing Gary. Frank.

Hi Gary...Absolutely beautiful !!!! That's a lot of work but well worth the effort... cutting thick rings then sawing them in half is such a good idea... also turning the inside of the bottom and the inside of the top half before gluing them together is very clever... lovely finish... my Padouk and Ash bled together so I will try spray on polly in future... great video... take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
Glad you enjoyed it Andy! Yes it is a lot of work for sure. Some of the patterns I built at work took as long as 3 months to make and that was working 8-10 hour days plus weekends at times .Actually that taught me not to get in a hurry. So this was not so bad..lol Hope all is well where you are at. They are loosening our restrictions again next week. Take care, Gary
Hello Garry, Stunning! what more can I say? I am very much aware and in awe of your wonderful skills. I'd be grateful to receive a copy of your plans for this project. Thanks for sharing . kind regards, Tony(UK)

Thanks for sharing Gary. This is a beautiful vase. Great choice of woods. Super shape. Always good stuff coming out of The Papas shop. I have been doing segmented turnings for about 10 years so I know how much effort you put into yours. I love the wedgie sled too. Have a great day and stay healthy.
Thank you Glen I am happy you liked it. I get asked all the time how long this took to make. I have only kept track of one bowl and it was a dizzy bowl. After seeing how long it took I decided not to do that again..lol Would love to see some of your work if you would like to share. Take care, Gary
Hi Gary....this is a real beauty, not just in the end product, but as well, in the execution of design and the utilization of jigs. This is wood turning taken to a higher level. Be well my friend.

Hi Gary, nice vessel! I know ist that it is a question to sand different coloured woods. For instance, maple, nut or purple heart. For example complex patterns with this woods are sometimes horrable to sand and not to get red dust into the maple. In your case it is impossible, but when I sand I change the sandpaper if I switch to sand maple. Best wishes Andreas
Hi Andreas glad you liked it. Switching sandpaper is a great idea but not sure how I could just sand the maple without touching the Paduak. It certainly would be a great idea with flat work for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care, Gary
Thank you Mike and it was lots of fun. It was fun making the little filler piece. Especially making the gcode to engrave my name. I have not glued it in yet so it was not lined up in one of the shots but it was in one of the pictures. Take care, Gary

Great job Gary! But what a big job too. This must have taken you days to complete. Currently I don't have that much time. I'm not showing this to the Bosslady because I'm afraid she will immediately place an order!
Thank you Leo and not sure of exact time it took. It took weeks from start to finish but I turned 4 other turnings between working on this. I would guess 12 hours of working time. Well you best show her before someone else does lol. Take care, Gary
WOW, awesome vase Gary, I love the colors and I really like the tips on keeping the padauk from bleeding into the maple! I agree and like you I love lacquer and have been using it for years although I spray independent from the lathe and use a water based lacquer and sanding sealer! I have never used Acks paste but I have some Hampshire sheen and I am hoping that it will do the same job as the Acks! Thanks for the awesome video and look forward to the next one! Cheers Al

Hi Gary (Papa) a pure labour of love, the vase/decanter is stunning. How long did it take too make? Not sure how your subscribers are only 16.5k, you are one of the best turners on UA-cam, a true artist who does this in his spare time. WOW. Thanks for sharing Gary.
Well thank you very much Jim I appreciate you comments. I would be guessing on the time but I would say about 12 hours total working hours. I do not count the time the glue is drying. I started it on Nov. 4 and finished a week ago. Thanks again, Gary

Thanks again,
Gary
MUITO LINDO O TRABALHO DO SENHOR PARABENS... AGUARDO OUTROS,, PARABENS.
Muito obrigado, fico feliz que tenha gostado.
Sem nosso Senhor nada disso é possível.
