    Join Sweetwater's Nick Bowcott to learn how to play one of rock’s most important and pivotal scales: the minor pentatonic scale. This relatively simple, 5-note (that’s literally what “pentatonic” means - it’s Latin for “five tones” or “five notes”) scale is directly responsible for some of rock’s most memorable riffs, licks, runs, and solos.

    5 minutes in & I just realized Nick's a lefty like me. Lefties need to stick together HA! I'm just beginning my practice of Penta scales. I've played synth for years, with basic knowledge of chord tones & extensions. Trying to apply all this on guitar is another beast!

    Nick, for some reason the pentatonic scale has been somewhat of a mystery to me and I've never pursued it. You explained it in such and easy fashion and taught us how to play it in a different key so easily. THANK YOU. Now I might attempt to play some guitar breaks, which I have always shied away from. Great lesson, Nick. Thanks.

    Great tutorial for beginners. One thing : "penta" is not latin, it's greek for "five". in latin, it's "quinque" ;)

    Hey what is your Beef with Jimmy Hendrix? You mentioned him as "some guy named Jimmy Hendrix". You mean to tell me that you don't know who Jimmy Hendrix is? If that is the case, why even bother referencing him within the list of some of the "Classic Rock Riffs". Is it because he was Black? Give me a break!... You are full of it... Give Jimmy Hendrix the credit and respect that he deserves. He was a legend in the Rock & Roll world and he made a name for himself, regardless of his black color. Same way that you respectfully referred to the other artists who made the list of some of the classic Rock Riffs using the minor pentatonic scale, I believed that you could have referred to him as well the same way, not " some guy named Jimmy Hendrix". When will you folks finally learn to view someone solely by the content of their character, not their skin color? I guess that will take another decade... Frankly, there wasn't any need for this, as Jimmy Hendrix was truly a legend and pretty well-known into the Rock & Roll arena..

    • @nickbowcott8822
      @nickbowcott8822 3 роки тому +2

      Dear Kel - that was said 110%" tongue in cheek" and with 1100% reverence to the legend that is, was and always will be, Jimi Hendrix. Of course, everyone knows Jimi Hendrix - he changed everything, forever....I apologize that my "humour" (correct spelling!) clearly upset you. All hail Jimi!!!!

    • @punkisinthedetails1470
      @punkisinthedetails1470 3 роки тому +3

      @@nickbowcott8822 Can't believe you had to explain that. It was painfully obvious to the rest of the class. Hendrix needs no introduction which is why you were being ironically flippant. I mean. There is little you can say about Hendrix that is worth even saying apart from 😲. The end. Forever. Great tut Nick. Peace .🤘👍🏻✌🔥

      Wow! A bit sensitive? Burn down a police precinct or loot a Target store in protest. Of course he knows Hendricks ( You would know it was changed to Hendrix ). The color of skin? Scary to know someone could get so rattled because of their insecurities. He also didn't mention the drummer from The Dog Night. Burn it down.
