Signed up to your apple course, and enjoyed it, but I feel that video like this as an extra section will really help ... How-to's, tips and tricks and how they fit into your Time Sector setup would finish off the course rather than going seeking videos like this on your UA-cam channel
That's a good point, James and I did think about it. The problem I had was where to start and where to end. And in what context given the course is primarily focused on helping you to create a productivity system.
First off, you have a great teaching style that has me sharing your videos with younger working age people in my life. Although I’m retired, I use your instructions for staying on top of home and travel reminders. I’m looking for ways to make my assistive touch button more powerful. The meeting agenda function I keep using. Maybe you’ll do a bit about that in the future. 😊
This is the video I was looking for. You showed us how to create a Today Focus smart list that filters flag tasks and ends up in todays focus. I was watching your older videos which most likely at the time wasn’t updated with smart list filters.
I just followed your instructions and set up my Today's Focus in Apple Notes. I think this is going to be very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to show me how and more importantly why I should do it
Carl, you solved about five problems in less than 10 minutes. 😅 I was trying to do something similar to this today and you helped me make it much more simple. Thank you!
Hi Carl, thank you for this video. How to set the filters so that my smart list displays: the reminders that have a flag + without the #later tag OR reminders that are due today + without the #later tag I'm struggling setting this up on macOS. I noticed you can sort of "indent" sets of filters by clicking on the "+" while pressing the "option" key, but I can't get it right! Thanks for any help! (in other words, how to organize multiple layers of "any" and "all" in filters!)
I am a bit confused by the rationale for a task to remain in the inbox after being dealt with in some way. In your case, you added a tag and created two smart lists and the tasks then show in those new smart lists as expected, but it also still shows in the inbox (still shows the original 5). I would have expected that once a task appears in a new list that it would disappear from the inbox, in this case, dropping to 3. It would appear to me that in using a number of smart lists and tags, that over time, the inbox would get quite large. Does a task in a smart list never leave the inbox unless it is completed or deleted? Can you explain?
My apologies, Phil. This is a demo account so I set things up in my inbox. You would usually move these tasks to your lists and allow the smart filters to do their thing.
Hi Carl and thank you for this video. Reminder App is getting better and I am considering to switch from TodoIst after 4 years... Anyway I find Reminders still limitated for some issue. For instance how can I set up a "dynamic" date (i.e. "today") in my smart list filter? I can only set up "a date" but not a dynamic date as "today" or "yesterday". This could be useful for something like creating a Smart List with only overdue tasks (and I am not able to do this so far). Thank you!
I think if you are coming from Todoist, you will ultimately find Reminders very frustrating. Apple are never going to put the same commitment into Remainders that the people at Todoist will put into Todoist.
Here is how I set a workaround to set up a "dynamic" date. In my Smart List I I created a Date filter with 'Relative Range, with the value of 'In the past 999 years'. That filtered all items from today + earlier.
As you discovered, if you flag future tasks they come up in the default flag view--which I don't want to see. I want to see only the flagged tasks for today.
Great video, I'm giving the ReminderApp a try having used Todoist for years. (most of my Todoits practices came from your excellent videos!) The one list I can't seem to create is Tomorrow's Tasks, the App shows me Tomorrow's tasks but adds Today's unfinished tasks. Thoughts?
This is similar to having the filter I use in Todoist which shows me all the tasks I have not completed today. These are relevant when you are planning the next day.

Ooh, I'll look into that and what I can come up with.
Would love to see a wrap up from beginning to end and in between about reminders and how you use it.

The best Chanel. Thanks for your videos
Thank you, Javier. Glad you like it.

Very happy to have helped. 🙂
Hi Carl, great video. After taking your Apple Productivity course, I switched from Todoist to Apple Reminders.
That's wonderful to hear. Glad you've found this helpful.
@Hair Journey to Waist Length what makes Apple reminders better than Todoist?
@@MarcP5267 I switched back to Todoist as of a couple weeks ago.
@@1BlkBarbie1 why did you switch back to Todoist?
I don’t have the icon button, or being able to make it into a smart list.
Is it possible to set reminder using Siri some time before an event? i.e. remind 25 minutes before a meeting scheduled at 3PM tomorrow?
No. You would not be putting meetings into Reminders. You would put a meeting into your calendar and there you can set a reminder of the event.
Hi Carl, thank you for this video.
How to set the filters so that my smart list displays:

Hi Gabriel, that's way beyond my abilities with tagging in Reminders. I've only been able to create very simple ones.
@@Carl_Pullein Thank you Carl!

Very informative as always. 👍🏽
Thank you.
Can you explain how to create lists for this week, next week etc.?
Here you go, Manny.

@@ronwallrealestatethanks so much for sharing this, this is perfect for what I was wanting to set up!
Ok I’m a little confused. Why would you have a Todays Focus? Wouldn’t Flagged be the most important list?
As you discovered, if you flag future tasks they come up in the default flag view--which I don't want to see. I want to see only the flagged tasks for today.

@@Carl_Pullein would you include past due reminders filter in the Todays Focus smart list?
@@MarcP5267 For me? No. I don't allow tasks to become overdue. If I cannot do a task on it's given day I will reschedule it.
Has this changed as I am not getting the same options when I click on add list. Thank you
I suspect it will have changed over the last 12 months.
