When someone does this, I learn the material much faster, and by the end of watching this video I have something extremely useful and relevant to my life that I can begin using today!
Thank you for showing me that reminders can do so much more than I realized. As a chronic procrastinator I’m going to use what you said about lists and dates to boot me in the backside to get going on tasks and projects. Never rush up to a deadline again!
thank you so much, i had such a productive day today all because of you!! I’ve been using notes all the time, and reminders seemed like a big mystery all the time
Great video! I watched a number of objectively poor videos before stumbling across yours. You have done a good job of explaining the concepts, giving tips and tools and show examples. Thanks!
Wow. Thank you so much for doing this video. I was just thinking a few days ago that I wanted to give Reminders another try to help me keep track of my To-Dos after trying numerous other methods, both digital and analog. After Attempting to set up a layout, I did a quick search and found your video. It contains a tremendous amount of helpful information and I plan to watch your other videos. Thanks again!
Why this video don't have a million views? i always thought that apples reminders app is very useless. But after this video i understand the power of app. Thank you pal!
Just reorganised my entire reminders setup. Other than the Today smart list, I've changed flagged with an Urgent smart list (with flagged reminders). You've got a new subscriber for sure!
Great video. One idea I got when watching this video - for templates, incase the ordering gets wrong, you can number the tasks, so when the ordering is wrong you can easily put all in the right order.
I just came across this as I was looking for a way to get organized and I am so grateful! Also in addition to the four pinned I added two more pinned lists for my morning routine and bedtime routine. I’m trying to eliminate the use of too many apps to do things that I can get done with just one. Thank you so much you really helped me figure this out and I’ll watch the other one next for sure. Thanks.
Really great tutorial! This past year I was trying to find the right app to create to-dos / project lists with subtasks. The answer was in front of me all along! Reminders! Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Excellent!! I am about to rewatch and take notes!! I have been really wanting to switch into reminders and get use out of it. I thought I would just find one or two tips I could use. But wow! I think there is only one or two I might not use!! Can’t wait to watch the others!
Great Video ~ several things I didn’t know so now I am ready to improve my use of Reminders. I would love to see a video about how Notes, Reminders, Tasks & Calendars can work together more efficiently.
Thank you very much. This is a very clear video, with clear outcomes. It’s a benefit to me with ADHD. I do value the strategy, but this video has a lot of value in being able to complete something.
This was very helpful, even though I have been using it for a while I hadn't been able to make it work like I wanted it to. The tip about using flags for 'doing today' was very useful.
Thanks for the tutorial! Question: when setting up custom Today list to include flagged items - how would you have that appear in the badge count? Mine only shows notifications for the default Today list which doesn’t include flagged items. Thanks again!
This was eye opening and so helpful. Thank you so much! I set up my reminders app like you have demonstrated. 2 questions. Can you do a follow up video on how the reminders that you set up flowed? And in this video you mentioned to watch another video to learn about widgets. That video was helpful but didn’t have the widgets in it. Is there more videos besides the tips video and this one?
I love this video. I know there’s some really good to-do apps out there but I hate using a bunch of different apps and would rather use what comes with my devices
clicked subscribed! really thorough and well thought out demos and explanations.. I am keen to learn how to really utilise the tools available to me on my iPad.. .i've clicked around a few channels this evening for similar info but this is the one for me! thanks Peter!
This is awesome.. Love that you're using the Things 3 principals. One of my goals is to use the Apple eco-system only apps for all my productivity tasks. This video take me there!
I do this by adding a bunch of lists to a group and then clicking on the group so that I can view all my lists within that group at once. It's another option for viewing tasks by section. But I've used this method too. I think this really demonstrates how flexible and powerful Apple Reminders is now!
I can't create GROUPS-... The option in the edit menu is grayed out and dragging two lists on top of each other doesn't create groups... I see that people online have the same issue.. I run the latest version of MacOS Ventura 13.2 .. Anyone encountered this too?
I'm going through a period where I need to save money on food. This helped me make inventory of my pantry, fridge, and freezer, and add expiration dates to foods. This is gonna alleviate monthly planning so much, thank you!
Wow! This has been extremely helpful between this and your notes video! I had most things stored in google docs which just became cluttered. Was going to look for different paid apps and I'm glad I just learned about what I already have especially because I am new to mac! I've been spending over an hour reorganizing all my tasks. Thank you!
Peter, could you please tell me how you use both Reminders and Things in concert with one another? How do you decide what goes where? Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this for me. I really appreciate your videos.
Hey Chris. I personally switch back and forth between task managers to stay current on a number of them. Reminders and Things do many of the same things. When I primarily use Things, I supplement it with Reminders for groceries and for location-based reminders.
@@PeterAkkiesThanks so much for your reply, Peter! I believe I've found what works best for me and that is to use Reminders specifically for time-based tasks and Things for everything else. I find the pestering nature of reminders to be helpful when something is time-sensitive, whereas Things alerts once then stops bugging, I often need to be bugged!
Hi, great video .. If I have an appointment, say the dentist - 2 days from now, scheduled in my calendar, will it show up in my reminders app and remind me automatically?
Around 3:50, where you are talking about projects.. I have several individual to-do's and also projects as you've shown, which makes for a big list of things. How do you deal with seeing what parts of a project you completed? Do you show completed, or not? Thanks!
I like this. I love the idea of the today view to add flagged. Easier to add deadline dates and worry about today tasks with flagged. I work on some big projects that are usually year long so doing tasks with sub tasks is difficult for me. I create lists for my big projects, put them all in a folder called work projects. Once I complete the project I move it all into another folder called completed or archive. It makes it easier that way because within projects I have lots of tasks. Also, another tip. I created another smart list that I pinned called anytime (similar to things 3). I. There I set to add all tasks without a date. This way I can go through tasks that I don’t have deadlines for and I can assign them when I am ready.
I use reminders all the time especially on my apple watch...this such a outstanding video extremely informative hitting all the right spots...I am going to like and subscribe
Thanks for the tip about setting up a smart list so that flagged items show up on today's view. I hated NOT seeing the item until it was due...now that is no longer an issue.
Recently started using Reminders so thank for the great tutorial!! And glad to hear some else agrees having to create a template from a list instead of a task w sub tasks doesn’t make and is cumbersome, but then how sub tasks can sometimes work maybe it’s not so bad after all 😂
Nothing new for me, but this is actually even better, because I made sure I'm not doing something stupid. I would also suggest you to turn on showing completed tasks - it will help you to monitor what have you done during the day.
Hi there! I'm trying to figure out why my view on mac desktop is so different than this video. My phone view looks like this video but desktop doesn't. All it has is the left list view - not the 6 progress bars at the top. I also can't use command square bracket to create projects which is the most important thing for me... Any advice on both of these issues? Thx in advance!
Hi, that's awesome tips in this video. But I can not create a "Today" smart list same as yours - at 6:53 for example, I do not have this "Include reminders matching field..." in my app on Mac at all, and therefore can not choose the date filter today further... Has Anyone idea how to fix this? FIXED: My bad, was not on latest version of Mac OS
No, but if you use Reminders' built-in priority feature, you could sort your Today view by priority, so those tasks will float to the top. Or you can create a smart view showing only high-priority tasks. Either way, you'll want to open Reminders every morning to plan your day.
Great video. This is the closest thing I’ve seen to replicating what I love so much about Things 3. Not smooth enough to make me switch yet, but it’s great to know I can fall back on Reminders should something happen to Things in the future.
I have been able to replicate my Things 3 setup well with Apple Reminders. Basically I create folders for Projects (As opposed to lists) and under these projects folders I have lists with items and subitems. I started using Things 3 because of Peter, and have been able to just move to Reminders. Thank you Peter for your videos!
Great, informative video. I generally add reminders/to-dos from the Scheduled tab so that they are by day of the week. I also have Smart Lists based on tags for Work and Admin and Important. Every time I add an item to the Scheduled tab it goes to my Inbox list and also gets added to a specific Smart List. Is there a way to avoid it going to the Inbox list and just populate into the respective Smart Lists?
