I have met Brian and he is a good guy. He gives good advice. When I first came to the Philippines back in 1997, I found that I always had to pay extra. As I am much older now, it seems that I don't get that as much. I'm 78 now, and I often get a discount. I often find that people will go out of their way to help me. I tell people that the best thing about the Phillippines, is their people.
The first time I went to PI my wife, who was Filipina would not let me go shopping with her. She was very clear that I would inhibit her ability to negotiate.
Bro I've been in the country for a yr now and this is absolutely redicolous I always get a charge of 100p or more just because of my skin color makes me kinda depressed
Ever tried to get a bank account here it's a joke u can't get a real debit card so they don't deny you an account they just say we will open you like BDO they say we can open you a savings account and that's not fair in 🇬🇧 or 🇺🇸 we allow most ppl to open bank accounts what the point of a bank account with denying one a visa or master BDO bank card that's exactly what they are doing and they at bi say that you can get a bank account yes you can but you can not get a debit card associated with that account that not right almost racist
Skin tax or tourist tax is present everywhere - Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, etc. Thailand also has dual pricing. Entrance fees to temples or national parks are 10x higher for tourists versus locals. In PH, you also get tourist price if you're not from the area & you don't know the dialect (e.g. you're a Tagalog and you don't speak Ilokano, Ilonggo or Cebuano - you'll get a higher price). My take on it - learn some words or phrases in the local language or dialect, be polite & respectful, haggle when necessary. Btw, Philly has been in PH for ~5 years now, so he's now a long-term expat. Cheers & stay safe!
Its almost the same in the US. For example, most companies hire foreigner workers and pay them less than people who are US citizen; even though both foreigner worker and US citizen have the same skills.
that is terrible, it doesn't really happen in the uk unless the work is unregulated but if the british person is also working without paying tax an recieveing cash, then they will also recieve less.
@@CoshanUncharted Here is the US, California (each state law are different) if your are poor or below income that is including new immigration can have free health care and free food or some voucher for food. But if you make above minimum wage government and state will tax a person more. Plus, he or she must pay their own health care and insurance. I like the European health care system better than American.
To be honest even us local tourist would have to pay more sometimes(not all) when we go to other places in our country, they do it because they think we are just a seasonal customer so better to just increase their price... Well mind me they are friendly still and we always and always bargain the price so as a foriegner better to do so and tell them that you will ask their service for the second time if you will like thier service.. it is like a "suki" or loyal customer if my translation is correct 😅, which they are happy to have
yeah it sucks, its okay if it is a little higher we expect that but just a little annoying when it is a lot and the price is more than double or trippled. :(
@@CoshanUncharted just don't pay it I had a tuk tuk in bohol try ,taking us the long way back one night then wanted 250, I gave him 80 same as it cost us to get there said he was getting the police didn't happen.

He's a right wing fool who hates players taking the knee, a good guy he is not.
You wouldn't want to be treated differently in your native country so you should not give a pass for this kind of behavior in the Philippines.

Here in Alaminos City, Pangasinan, on the USA TV bill, there's a price for foreigners and a price for Locals. We just pay it.
its so annoying :( sometimes its okay and if its a little it is okay but hard when it is a huge change in price for foreigners

That‘s not different in Europe or the „new“ Europe. Try Croatia‘s whooping skintax☝🏼
It's not skin tax, it's based on how big your nose is 😆. I have lived here 20 years , can speak the language and I still get overcharged sometimes
