  • Today we will be reacting to PhillyinthePhilippines vlog were he is warning people about retiring in the philippines.
This is our very first reaction type vlog on this channel were we will be reviewing another philippines content creator about the philippines and looking at the answers they give about certain problems and then giving our own opinions on weather we think this is true or false and why.
We are very particular about what type of reaction vlogs we would be willing to do so if this is somthing you would like us to do more of then let us known.
This is a great vlog to be able to review since it covers many topics that people would want to know about that matter to regular people. Thank you to PhillyinthePhilippines for making this vlog and answering these very popular questions that people want to know.

@@Ladybug8899 If you think it's just click bait, you can very well take your time on checking other vloggers. However simple this video may seem to us, they took a considerable amount of time making it. If they are just doing it for the click bait, I won't mind, it's their problem not mine. There are people who enjoy and appreciate what they are doing, and I am one of them. I just do what I enjoy doing as long as I don't hurt other people. It's better to be positive minded and avoid thinking bad or doubting other people's motives unless it is evident.

I am a first time viewer here on your channel. I was brought here by the fact that you were reacting to @PhillyinthePhilippines channel, of which I am a subscriber. I heard you say that you do not need a steady income to retire here in the Philippines. Then you went off about how you and your girlfriend don't have a steady income, but you also said that you go back to the UK to earn money and them come back. That's a way to live in the Philippines, but it is not the same as retiring here. What Philly is describing in his video are the situations (like my own) where guys come to the Philippines, marry a Filipina, and spend the rest of their lives here, without leaving. My personal story is a great example. I met my wife online, we chatted for a number of months, I visited here three times with her, and then when she and I married, I took up permanent residence here. Without having the steady income I have from my U.S. Navy retirement, I could not begin to afford to live here full time. Also, just FYI, I have been in place here in the Philippines since July 2003, without ever leaving the country. Otherwise, I think you have a good handle on the other points Philly made in his video. Thanks for reading through this long diatribe but I wanted to explain my position thoroughly.

i've been retired here almost 5 years after visiting here every year for 5 years and getting married here.... i'm scared to give an opinion. but i will say dont trust anyones opinion who is coming for 'visits' and going back to their country after their philippines vacation travels. it is a world away from living here for good.

    • @justaguy-69

i have to add...philly hasn't been here long either- and i dont know if he has built a house or bought land or has neighbors yet. those things alone can alter your views quite a lot. if i moved from place to place here and rented my views would be quite different than someone who LIVES in a barangy in a house he has built with his own money and has NEIGHBORS, the same people to learn to live with daily. that is VERY different than meeting people for a week or a month and moving on....its only after you experience THAT for several years can you know what your true opinion is.

one last thing, patience , this is important, if you are in a McDonald's and there are 35 people working behind the counter and 6 people in line and it takes you 45 minutes to place your order before you move to the next line to wait on your food....yes...patience ( :

Thank you for expressing your very objective views. I am a truck driver here in America and I fully understand the American perspective. I also feel that if a traveler visits a country he or she should never expect everything to be like the home country. Otherwise, what is the point of traveling if one cannot see and feel the difference and that the world is not populated by one homogeneous group of human beings with one culture and only one set of beliefs.

Nice to see your new vlog!
True: Don't retire somewhere you've never spent much time. You will be disappointed. Wherever you came from, it will not be the same lifestyle in SE Asia. Wherever in the world you move to, respect their law. Unless you are a citizen, stay out of politics. Medical care is expensive anywhere.
Lifestyle is different depending on which part of the country you intend to live. If you live in big cities like Metro Manila, you can expect Western convenience.
If you live in a rural community, expect roosters crowing in the morning, frogs croaking after rain stops and crickets chirping at night. People are hospitable but remember that that they are sharing resources that they worked hard to earn. Minimum wage is lower and everything is expensive compared to how much they earn.
True: Make sure you have back up resources in case of emergency or natural disasters when you need to leave the country in a hurry.
True: it's always hot, there's line ups for everything, nothing you can do about it. It's an exercise in patience. Go with the flow.
PhillyinthePhilippiines was talking about his own experience. We may disagree but he is entitled to his opinion. Peace everyone

This video is just from another perspective of time spend here. You really do not know what it is really like living here until you spend a lot time here. All the issues he mention I have been faced with. living here require a lot patients..

Very good video on Philly in Philippines. Philly (Brian) is ok...sort of.. he's from around Philly, small town. He was a prison guard many years (screw)...nice enough fellow. He's diabetic, divorced, remarried. Found new life 4-5 years ago in Philippines. He was injured on the job, so Dept. Of Corrections pays him over $3000 per month disability.
Not bad. For life. Brian is not the authority on Philippines. 5 years there is relatively short time. I was there in 1972, when President Marcos declared Martial Law. And I am certainly not an authority on Philippines. Even with my many years there, in and out of country. Again, very good video on Philly and on retiring in Philippines. Thank you.

But if you want to extend the value of your money then you got to live like Asians do. This not be true to Japan and South Korea though.

@@richellesalazar6851 that's true, same in Jamaica. The roosters serve as alarm clocks. We have a lot of barking dogs too and some expats complain about that in the PH as well. Barking dogs and crowing roosters don't have any effect on me at all because I'm used to it from my country.
I live in Florida now though, and even when I go back to Jamaica the roosters and the dogs still don't bother me. When I go to the PH for my first visit I'll feel quite at home because I see a lot of similarities there to what I'm accustomed to in Jamaica.

We have a house in the Philippines and would rsther invest our own hard earned money into the country than scrimp and save while we're there so we come back and work a bit to fund ourself being there. We've isited over 30 provinces in 4 years and have a lot of experience throughout different provinces as apposed to one.. But yeah it's your decision who you listen to 👌🏼 it doesn't make either of us wrong.. It makes our experience different.

hey KF, yea he does make some good points for first time foreigners coming to the philippines but i dont think every single point would be enough to tell somebody not to come, for example the smoke issues or the rooster issues or the internet speed issue which is not really true. I think its helpful for foreigners to see that some of these points or issues should not stop you coming or retiring in the philippines because you can find amazing internet speed and not every single street has noisy roosters or smokey streets 😊🇵🇭

@@CoshanUncharted Yep....I agree with you there, I think anyone thinking about moving to the Philippines just needs to take the time to study it a bit and visit here a few time to get a "feel" for how you like it. and when you move. RENT first so if something comes up your allowed to move...I have been here now 5 years but I have been coming here over the past 13 years off and on. As far as the roosters....LOL> I built my house with a beautiful view in the Mountain and a stunning rice field across the rod from my house. but two years later a rooster farm moved in cross the road....over 200 of them. Nothing I can do about it...just accept it. your never going to find a "Perfect place" . just be willing to accept things.

A good case in point, when you are in other country, learn the culture and never imposed your western mindset to them. Act like the native so to speak. Respect for others is the key to live and getting along will take you a long way with the Filipino culture. They will take their shirt off just to make you comfortable around them. Thanks for your comments and reactions to the expat point of view forewarning those who decide to retire in the Philippines. God bless and wish that you two can go back to the Philippines.

Absolutely need verified month income in Thailand now, and later..in Philippines. Why? Too many "dead beat" foreigners enter the country, blow their cash on girls, booze, drugs, then get turned down by their own embassy for emergency funds. They get stuck in Asia, start begging, committing crimes, mooch off of others, etc. Thailand, Philippines does not want those type of tourists. Thailand requiring copies of bank statements now, for many type visas. The old hippie, backpacker, "sleep under a rock" days are over! Deal with it! Better have a steady ibcome!

Sorry you are wrong about internet, suppliers don't offer the same packages to private home owners compared to hotels. Lots of breakdown. I have been living here for 18 months and I think not 5~6weeks pass where I don't loose wifi for 1~2 days. Also patience is about being prepsred to get to the till in supermarket and shop assistant starts to scan your items and after a couple walks away leaving you standing there while they do some other internal business. Dont retire to Philippines unless you have stayed in an airbnb and looked after yourself, not a hotel. Anyway UTV. up the villa.

Burning leaves at sundown is believed to help temporarily drive out mosquitos, which is good enough respite for many. Roosters are the common man's clock too, not to mention weekends cock fighting culture which still exists like horse racing or bullfighting in other countries. Laid back lifestyle goes with the hot weather, which is exhausting and sweaty; consider the similarity of the siesta time of Spain or the shutting shops for noon time breaks in India. Also, there are no killer winter weathers. Throw a seed and it will grow, so to say.
