There’s drummers who can throw down on funk, and there’s amazing Jazz drummers, but Mike Clark is truly a jazz funk drummer! Can never get enough of mike! Baddass!
Mike, you're my hero and an inspiration to us drummers. In addition to being an insanely funky drummer, you're also a master of straight jazz playing. Awesome!
Exposure to Mike's playing has forever changed my concept of linear methodology. It's left an indelible mark of creative spirit, possibilities and authorship. Thanks Mike!
I am so happy Mike has taken care of himself to still be giving me joy in his drumming. This man turned me on to so many great players; Gaylord Birch, Pete DePoe, Clyde Stubblefield, etc. Plus he has the nastiness of Tony and Elvin in his playing! i saw him at The Iridium with Dave Stryker and Mike just blew me away!
Mike sets the bar pretty high with eloquent, timeless vocabulary as he tells his story with style and flair. Plus, he just plain knows how to thrown down...
He's set up like Elvin's old trio with Joe Ferrell and the bass player I forget. So yes. He quotes Max during the solo on the swing piece. So yes. As far as Buddy, it seems that all the old cats copy his stuff...yes again. He also has a bit of Roy Haynes in his playing. No?
Hey people what’s the first tune? I remember there was a modern drummer performance (mid 00’s) where another drummer was playing the same standard on brushes.

Mike Clark is truly one of the most versatile drummers of all time...avant-garde jazz and killer funk master! and
WHAT A MASTEERRR!!! INCREDIBLE FEEL SWING !!
You can definitely hear the Tony influence, really nice ideas!
Elvin's spirit is here... Great sound, tuning and cymbal choice of course.
What a legend!
Mike is one of the truly remaining "Greats!" I'd sure like a run down on Mike's Drum and Cymbal selection here......
What else can one say but!..Mike Clark..you are incredible!!

God, that comping. Fantastic musician!
He's got his floor toms tuned higher than I tune my small toms! Wow! Never heard Mike Clark before. A true Master.

Love your playing Mike---God Bless and keep you .
His drums sound so good that even if he played a 4/4 straight ahead rock beat for 20 minutes I would be content
Max, Tony, Elvin and Buddy in his drumming!
And Steve Gadd!
since him and steve are the same age i wouldn't say that really

JB Perraudin drummer- Official that little tom solo in his drum solo, very Tony vibe.
Also Mike Clark in his drumming
Those rolls at the begging are tightttt!
The Absolute Man!
Clark and Ben Riley are 2 drummers that have shown me that there is almost no difference between jazz and jazz funk.
he's a total badass
❤
Sick kit , Mike understands Time and feel, the sax player is terrible absolutely no feel. Feel can’t be faked you either have it or you don’t.
Loft Funk..........yeah
Good combo with the tenor

This guy is sick
Mike is fucking awesome
Love Mike Clark- his time and vocab feel so right! I find his main ride cymbal too trashy for my taste, but hot damn, he's an awesome drummer.
Jesus mike, you put that Elvin shit into toe tapping time.
More Elvin than Elvin! :D
6.05
toms tuned so high they sound like timbales or timpanis...odd really...not usual...take some getting used to
Standard bop tuning.
