I can remember when the Herbie Hancock album Thrust came out and in the first two measures of the first cut Palm Grease. I knew then and there this guy was special. I’m referring to Mike Clark, but Paul Jackson rates just as high in my book.

45 years ago in 1976 I was lucky enough to get to play (guitar) with Mike and Paul for a few weeks. Although they had just gotten off the road w/Herbie, they were in essence just neighborhood Oakland guys. Paul actually didn't own a bass at the time, I had to lend him mine, and Mike's kit did not have any two drums that matched. This was exactly how they played and they could play it all damn day.

    • @gustavosanders1948

@@gustavosanders1948 My pleasure. I had a great time with them. But you know what killed me? Here I was, with my world heroes. And Paul didn't even own a bass, nor a car. When I picked him up, he was living in a complete dump.

Don't know if you met him right after those circumstances. In any case for me it's very sad I will no longer have the opportunity o meet one of my bass heroes.
