It’s a damn shame that the algorithm isn’t kinder to Matt as he continues to produce top-notch content that’s created a loyal and engaged subscriber base.
Not too many fishing channels bigger than his. Not sure if it's the algorithm, might just be limited audience. If he was a 15 year old girl doing makeup tutorials he would have 15M subs lol. Seems like fishing channels top out at the half million mark, only one I know in the millions is BlacktipH, but let's be honest. If you are catching monster sharks and 600 pound groupers regularly people who dont even like fishing are watching lol.
The only fishing I have ever done is in video games. And youtube recommended me this channel. This dude is super cool so I subbed. Its kind of working at least.
Love this. No heavy metal, no yelling or forced jeopardy, conflict or competition. Just relaxing, interesting fishing with informative dialogue that shows how much you enjoy it. The reality TV we need 🙂
Even if the crappies eventually swim back down the hole.. when you catch them in really deep water they will affected by barotrauma.. you can't plan to catch and release them in those deep basin spots. It's best to plan to harvest fish in that situation.
Dude I watch most of your videos and it amazes me how every single damn time you throw a line in the water, something massive takes it!! It's like the fish are looking for you instead of the other way around.
There is something so magical about bobber fishing through the ice. Waiting and anticipating, watching the bobber slip beneath the ice.... it's what fishing is all about! Sitting there watching the fish on an Aqua-View camera takes all the mystery out of fishing. Happy Holidays and cheers to keeping it simple!!
@@ndyakangler... that would be an awesome addition to your content capabilities!! But just watching the bobber has a special magic all it's own!! Enjoy your Christmas crappies and have a wonderful holiday for you and your family!! You get to play Santa this year!!!🎅

Nice crappie, limit 10,plenty to eat with fish that size, here in Southwest Missouri Ozarks, our daily limit is 15,! Have a Merry Christmas, & a great crappie fry! God is good!
Wow, that's a good limit of beautiful crappie in a fairly short period of time. Never been ice fishing as not much around here. However, you sure make it look like a lot of fun. Sure enjoyed it.
Man I’d love nothing more than to experience how people from other places catch crappie. Although I do believe we have the best crappie here in mississippi
Looks like you had a blast catching those crappie!!! I live in Illinois and no ice yet ! Hope we get some so I can have some fun too !! Keep up the videos, enjoy watching them !!
Those fish were very active I could never use bait of that size as they just don’t hit that hard for us on the Mississippi. The White bass are very good eating also by the way.
I grew up eating largemouth, smallmouth, catfish and crappie. Smallmouth is my #1 large mouth #2 Crappie #3 catfish 4. They all taste amazing! Just my preference growing up on it. Love the videos. Makes me miss living in Colorado ice fishing. Aint no ice in central Texas!
@@johnnybee6286 lol... in my area, only Asians eat small/largemouth bass. I've personally seen a couple Asian decent fishermen catch and kept a two man limit of 4lb bass on a yellow stringer. Sad sight to see but they were well within thier right and regulations to keep what they caught.
@@Skank_Hunt42 @Tom Well Tom I grew up in a small town, my family didnt have much money so we took what we could get. My dad hunted deer and feral hogs and he took me out to fish because I was too young to shoot a gun. We never poached and always supported our state by purchasing licenses and buying gear from our local store. Ive seen plenty of Asian people on our local waters poach, but not all of them. Nothing we can really do. We only took enough for dinner then fished for sport the rest of the time. I was fortunate and have a great job now, but damn I still love some bass stovetop with butter and garlic! Much more flaky then crappie.
@@johnnybee6286 in my area, the eastern European groups are notorious for poaching. It gets really ridiculous but that's a whole another story. Take care and happy new year!
Fished the last several weekends and slayed them at Jordan in NC. We brought home thirty that were 12 to 15 inches. Nice video but I hate the cold. We had seventy degree weather which was beautiful.
incredible crappie fishing. we are still waiting for ice here in northwestern illinois. got some cold temps coming up this week though. i'm ready to stock the freezer! keep it up man!
Lindy rig has a worm pumper that I use the needle to release the air from the swim bladder of fish if your catching them that deep and want to release them. Slip it between the scales and you can see the bulge where the bladder is.
Awesome video Sir. I really enjoy seeing the way you approach fishing. Merry Christmas! Also I know this is more of a selfish request, but I would really be interested in seeing a Q&A video.
Matt thanks for the video and it looks like Ashcan is still making slabs. Need you to go ice fish for some smallmouths. Merry Christmas to you and your family and thank you for keeping us entertained.
A tip for when crappies won’t go down the whole right away, is that you have to close their mouths. Other wise they just sit there. Try closing their mouths and they should go back down. Always works for me.
I agree I learned that years ago they seem to go into shock with their mouths open. Close their mouth and they seem to wake up and with a good drop they often are able to swim back down even caught from 30-35 foot depths. Confirmed on my underwater camera and they seem to be doing well.
When I was a kid my uncle used to take us boating at Lake Powell. You could catch dozens and dozens of crappie in a very short time, using nothing but an Eagle Claw hook and a can of nibblet corn.
