A truly great icon of jazz music. What a great and enduring partnership with her late husband John Dankworth . Thanks for the memories.

Move over Sarah, Lena, and maybe even Ella. The vocal range of Cleo Laine is certainly an amazing work of talent. I fell in love with her music the first time hearing her. Now that she's older, she continues to sing with powerful energy. Let's hear for Cleo Laine!!!

      Just discovered Cleo Laine.
      Tremendous stuff.
But Norma Winstone is the greatest English jazz singer imo.

It's worth checking out the original studio recording of this on the 1970 "Portrait" album. Fantastic arrangement. Forget the dirgey Nina Simone and Michael Bublé versions which feel anything but good - this treatment more accurately interprets the lyrics!

When I hear this I see Roger Moore sipping a martini and wooing a sexy dame, while at the next table cigar-chomping felons are plotting a major heist.
