  • ROUTE: BORDEAUX - LONDON GATWICK
    OPERATOR: BA EUROFLYER
    AIRCRAFT: AIRBUS A320-200
    REGISTRATION: G-GATL
    FLIGHT NUMBER: BA2787
    SEAT: 28F
BA Euroflyer intrigues me. I don’t really understand what its function is. So as the video unfolds perhaps you can help me understand what it’s all about.
Bordeaux airport started off in 1912 when the French government purchased 45 hectares of land. The first terminal was constructed in 1930. It is made up of three terminals. Terminal A is mainly for international flights. Terminal B passenger air terminal has two levels and is principally dedicated to Air France traffic between Paris and Bordeaux. Terminal billi is a facility for low cost carriers. It has one floor and has small check-in and arrivals areas as well as a departures area with six aircraft parking positions which are used for walk boarding. Billi isn a portmanteau of the words Bordeaux and illico. It translates as instant Bordeaux

BA Euroflyer has a separate air operator's certificate from British Airways. It was primarily established to compete more with low cost airlines out of Gatwick. It flies older aircraft (ie not NEOs) in a different seating configuration from BA mainline flights from Heathrow. Allegedly the staff are paid a lower wage than BA staff based at Heathrow and the working patterns are brutal so there are major issues with staff retention. That aside, they do offer a full Club Europe service and lounge access and complimentary service in Euro Traveller. It seems to be successful so far for British Airways- BA Euroflyer are expanding next Summer with additional aircraft and new destinations when easyJet return slots to them. Hope this helps and Happy New Year!

Hello there... former cabin crew for BA Euroflyer here. It was setup after the pandemic to be a lower cost base for short-haul ops out of Gatwick, to compete with the other airlines like Wizz and easyJet. Staff are paid less, the scheduling is pretty brutal... hence why I left. And there are no layovers, its all there and backs. And as Gatwick is a 24 hour airport I was driving home at like 3am sometimes... However, the crew there are lovely and if I could bring them all to my current airline, I would 🤣 I had a great summer there over 2023. Its the same service as BA with a flew slight differences like duty free alcohol and tobacco on board. You don't get that on short haul at Heathrow. There is also a lot of emphasis on pre-ordering at Euroflyer. Staff get commission and commission is much better than at Heathrow.

Thanks so much for watching and for that insight. I knew there had to be differences but as a total amateur I couldn’t really work out what they were. I always enjoy flying with BA - the best crews going in my experience.

Nice video and as you say, I was perplexed too. So thanks to the clarification comment on here we are all a little wiser.
Got to enjoy a bit of sun on a dark January morning! 👍

Thanks mate. Some have said it's to compete with easyJet but why not go the full low cost model?
I was jealous of that French sunshine when I was making the edit. It feels a long time since I was enjoying it.

Thanks for sharing this flight experience Tim. As other people have said, BA Euroflyer is literally a "get out of jail clause" for BA to "legally" put its LGW based crews on contracts with less pay to allow them to compete with budget airlines. End of the day BA Euroflyer is almost no different from a British Airways flight, Iberia does the same with Iberia Express. Hope this helps.

What a wonderful review! I travelled BA recently and you are quite right there is no difference. My guess is its just to take on easyjet, pretty sure they took a lot of slots back off them for this operation at Gatwick too.
    Speak soon Tim!

@Timstravels01 oh yes, covid gave BA an excuse to shut their Gatwick base. That's the reason they don't have many long haul routes anymore

Nice video mate. As for Euroflyer, I think it's something about the airline paying staff less as a technically separate entity. I could be wrong though!

Looks to me ,the only difference is in the refreshments. BA do it right, with a proper brew of Yorkshire tea coupled and a “dip me again” hardy Hobnob. 😂

    • @Timstravels01

So BA does it properly. The HobNob is indeed the king of the dunkers.

Good decision for Gatwick to Europe by British airways better than flying ba Heathrow to Europe unless if you are flying from Asia, Middle East or North America to Europe via London Heathrow for 5 hrs layover. Only Luton gatwick or stansted for Europe are suitable non stop route.

I had a look and.....I have no idea what Ba Euroflyer is. apparently you get points from it that you can spend on other BA stuff but other than that I cant see what the difference is.
