    Great video showing pitfalls of travel. Thanks for your frankness. Would love to see a video on your Skype calling.Lots of info on UA-cam from American vloggers but options don’t work for us Canucks! Love that you post costs in both Canadian and US currencies.

      Thank you so much for letting us know that you found this useful! We also like the idea of your Skype video. We felt the same way when we were researching our long term travel - it’s hard to find vlogs specific to Canadian problems. Our intense two step authentication practices and expensive and limiting cell phone plans are a hindrance. We would love to share our experiences and our current solution. We plan to do more research and problem solving on this once we get back to Canada for the summer to see if there are better options and we will definitely make videos to share what we discover!! Thank you for watching and letting us know what you would like to see in future videos! ❤

    I love that you showed “the downfalls” of travel as well. It is so important for people to realize things don’t always go as planned (if you recall my story - key could break in the lock 😂). It seems like the Airbnb mishap actually turned out better for you - nice hotel and rooftop patio!

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  10 місяців тому

      Things certainly don't always go as planned and we definitely want to have a "roll with it" kind of attitude. We also realize that we have the fortune of time. We aren't on a week long vacation, where a setback like this would really eat into our time. So we are very grateful for that! And YES, we were so happy that this happened. We actually ended up loving the new area so much more and we loved the hotel!!

    Hi Jan and Mitch absolutely loving your channel we are a couple a bit older than your age bracket and we are off on our South Asia adventures in May looking for options for possible retirement. Hopefully you are heading for Thailand as well shortly would be interested on your thoughts for that country as well. You both sparkle life and fun never know we could cross paths for a cold beer.

    Hi there, thanks for the nice video, just a friendly reminder that I noticed you were recording inside not outside under the sun , to be more polite it would be great if you guys take off your sunglasses. I see that you just started your You Tube channel and for sure you want it to grow up and get more subscribers then you have to produce videos different from others, the information you provided in this video has been already told by hundreds of other people .

      Thank you so much for watching and for your feedback and comments as we try to bring our own perspective and energy to our channel. Also, as a side note, we were actually outside on our patio, using the living room curtains as a backdrop. Without the sunnies, we were squinting terribly🙃 Cheers! 🥂

    Around $2500 for the month and what you did sounds decent. 👍 it looks like the caliber of your accommodations are more luxurious than the typical SEA apartments. Which might explain the higher prices. 🤔
    It's wonderful to see both of your constant smiles. Which is is so much more important. 😊
    Except when the water pipe bursts 😮
    Beautiful hotel. Great deal for 11 nights.

      Da Nang was fabulous! Accommodation costs really cannot be beat, especially for living on the beach!! Definitely more affordable than Thailand. We will definitely be back to explore more of Vietnam one day.
      And its easy to always be smiling in Vietnam. The people are smiling, weather is great, food is delicious..... the water pipe is just a funny story now!! LOL. Showed us how we can be resilient, pivot plans and move on. And it was meant to be because we LOVED our hotel for the next 11 nights! LOL.

    Can we use most credit or debit cards to pay hotels in Da Nang? Do you know if it's easy to find distilled water used for CPAP?

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  Місяць тому +1

      We used our credit card to pay for our hotel, but we cannot confirm abour debit cards. Your debit card will work in all bank machines though - cash is definitely king! We cannot remember about the distilled water! We want to say yes, as one of the countries we were in, we had to make sure that we grabbed the right water for drinking. Now I know what all the distilled water is for! Thanks for watching! Cheers!

    If you want to retire anywhere in SE Asia, visit the place during the dry hot season as well as during the rainy season. If you can't stand it during those seasons, don't retire there.

    If you go back to Vietnam would you consider just staying in an hotel instead of AirBnb?

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  2 місяці тому

      Great question! We would actually stay in a hotel for the first 5 days or so while we looked for an apartment. That would allow us to see the area and apartment before committing to a month. Also, we could likely get a better rate when not going through Airbnb. We would still choose apartment/airbnb because we like to do our own cooking. We LOVE Vietnamese food and eating out, but there is also such a thing as too much of a good thing! lol.

    How can you stay long term if you wanted to retire in Vietnam?

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  10 місяців тому +1

      That is really good question! Because we are not ready to settle down yet, we have not looked into this. However, we did meet a guy who has been living in Vietnam for 5 years (from France) by simply renewing his visa over and over. He said that Vietnam is really good about renewing Visas without becoming a resident. Unfortunately, we don’t have any more information on this process. But we do believe that if you want something enough, there is always a way to make it happen. 🙂❤️🇻🇳

      @@mitchandjan That is good to know, and it was my understanding as well from what I've seen online. It's great that you've had it confirmed by someone on the ground there.

      @@BeccifromOz yes and now that you can get a tourist visa for 90 days, he was happy because less trips to the immigration office and also cheaper!

  • @KB3TLE
    @KB3TLE 7 місяців тому +2

    Not really - all you can really do is visit - you can't stay or retire. -- It sucks there with their visa laws. -- They obviously don't want foreigners there - spend your $ - and get the hell out !!!

    • @mitchandjan
      @mitchandjan  7 місяців тому +1

      We have heard different stories. We met a person who had been constantly renewing their visa for the past 5 years and essentially living in Vietnam. But that option seems like a lot of work! Lol

    • @KB3TLE
      @KB3TLE 7 місяців тому

      @@mitchandjan Yea - it sure does. + the expense - and - the royal pain in the ass to do all those visa runs ! --?-- Add the visa costs & the the trips needed (?) - it's not so cheap for the year ?!? --- I would much prefer once every 3 years like the Philippines. Or never like Cambodia ! 🤗

  • @wesgraham2262
    @wesgraham2262 7 місяців тому +1

    You CANNOT retire in Vietnam. There is NO retirement visa and they only let you stay on a Tourist Visa for 90 days then you MUST leave the country. How is that good?? 🫤 In Cambodia, they have a retirement visa and you can stay as long as you want by extending your Tourist or 12-month ER Retirement visa as often as you want without leaving the country..

    • @mitchandjan

      just lip them some 20 dollars under the table and u never have to leave the country to renew your visa every 3 months. 20 bucks every 3 months is cheap and illigal but u never get caught cause u r dealing with gorvernment. haha
