I put my phone number on that list many, many years ago, and it worked great up until about a year or two ago. Now I get four to six calls every day. When I say " it worked great", I mean precisely that... I went from the time the service was first made available until recently without one single robocall or telemarketer or anyone else that I didn't personally give my number to. I don't remember exactly when DNC Registry was first made available though... probably around 2004, maybe '05 at the latest. I do remember other people trying to get on the list much later than that who still continued to get calls anyway, so maybe you had to be an early adopter and actually on the list almost right from the beginning otherwise you would just get lost in the quagmire of unwanted calls anyway. But I do know that it worked, and it worked for a long time. One other thing that may have contributed to the DNC Registry working for me is that I've had the same cell number since about 2000-ish, so I put my number on the list one time in the very beginning, and it stayed there unbothered until recently. It was nice while it lasted though.
exactly- those type of services are already standard and free in China. When visiting long term my phone there would tell me that this many people have labeled this number as a scam. And after enough people the number was automatically blocked.
This premium service for 2.99 should be paid for by the carrier to handle these issues. This shouldn't be paid for by the consumer. This is a problem that's happening on their networks to consumers. I can't believe I heard that load of crap. 2.99 pshhh..
I've been waiting for several weeks for a health department volunteer to call me to set up my COVID vaccination appointments. Because the call could come from any number and because they don't leave voicemail messages, you have to keep your phone within reach all the time and answer every single call. It's been eye opening because I usually don't answer calls from unfamiliar numbers.
The only help is that calls made from landline phones in the county offices will all have the local area code. Also, as phone companies typically set up only a few combinations in each town or city, the first 3 digits of the 7-digit local number will usually indictate the county seat. For example, local numbers in Lansdale PA begin with 361 and 362, and later on 855 was added. The volunteer should be using county phones for this work, not their personal cell phone, and you can always call the health office to confirm the policy.
@@dtvjho The volunteers were calling from their homes using their own phones - more likely cellphones than landlines. They sure weren't going to have volunteers, who would have been unvaccinated at that time, come in to the health department to work a phone bank.
It's always when I'm expecting a call that the scammers wanna blow my phone up. Any other day, they call once maybe twice... when I'm waiting on an important phone call, they call 500 times in a day. I have a special hatred for telemarketers.
Gucci gang *until they are already enrolled* I wasn’t saying that only 18 year olds can go to college. But not many minors do and it’s not a good idea to call random numbers where many of them are underage people talking about their college debts.

On an iPhone you pay nothing! Simply go to your settings, select phone, then turn on Silence Unknown Callers. Numbers not in your contact list are sent directly to voice mail. Scammers don't leave voice mail. Of course, you need to keep your contacts updated by adding contacts you want to hear from. Ever since, my phone is almost eerily & blessedly silent; these money hunters don't get through to me.
This is easiest by telling the caller, "I'm going to call your parents and call you back" The "I'm not using that number anymore" is "fine, I'll ask your parents for the current number and call you back." This is game over to that type of scam.
Whenever someone says "it's me your grandson (or granddaughter) "Say is that you "any name that is NOT theirs. " The caller will say yes and launch into a sob story. Excellent report! Go git 'em! Please do this over and over! As a young guy I worked with investigative reporters, and had a "scanning the news" column. In recent times, I sometimes keep direct-talk scammers going on and on just to keep them putting an effort into their losing cause (with me). They make the mistake of type-casting me (I'm 72yrs) as the emotionally-accessible "lonely old man". I just stay on the line, taking up their time. On line I mostly use the Brady surname, but my last name isn't Brady. This puts up quite the block against anyone trying to acess my private business accounts, but I do take the risk of being profiled as a "scammer" of course. Getting feedback (sometimes) on that tells me that many people are aware of and defend themselves against scammers. But only some. To me this is my way of having fun, and deterring this type of nickel-and-dime white collar crime. But I don't recommend this to you viewers, due to the sophistication of hustling thieves. Most local police and other enforcement people are overwhelmed with the numerous complaints, but usually without having the resourses to effectively knock down the slick operators. This can eat up a lot of law-enforcement time. So consumers beware! Go, UA-cam! Congratulations on getting positive feedback on your non-sensorship status. ~( :-)---

I hate these people and I hope they all rot standing in the deepest pit of hell, chin deep in liquid excrement 24/7 and periodically having Satan's minions walk to the door and yell, _"Okay, everybody on your headstand!!*_ Is that too much to ask?
Worse if your number is in PA. The robo scam is just way worse. I got all kinds of robo calls.
We shouldn’t have to pay for this. This should be free
We should pressure telecoms on fixing this by taking cheap data-only plans until they solve this.
Phone lines are getting more useless by the day
Agreed! $2.99 is ridiculous especially considering the millions of people that will pay that monthly...
exactly- those type of services are already standard and free in China.
Soon it will be "free" but your monthly bill will go up $5 a month.....
@@dtvjho I was getting scam calls from the usual suspects and "unknown number" from my city health department.
if they ask if you've ever had a reaction to anything say no.
@@dtvjho The volunteers were calling from their homes using their own phones - more likely cellphones than landlines. They sure weren't going to have volunteers, who would have been unvaccinated at that time, come in to the health department to work a phone bank.

They sell your number to the telemarketers in the first place.
An app this size would require a team of 20-30 people just for maintenance and updates, not even including initial development of the software in the first place. Then you'll have to have dedicated servers for it along with integrating the technology into existing telecom software. None of this is free. Expecting them to operate like a non-profit is silly, companies don't throw money into things to give away for free unless they expect it will make them money in some other fashion (marketing/awareness campaigns or loss-leaders). An app like this will cost millions over it's lifetime.

I had a voicemail once about my unpaid taxes...
I was 14 at the time.
I never answer a number if they not in my contacts.
My phone doesn't even ring unless it's a contact.
Jimichan what phone do you have?
V K on iPhone, go to settings, select phone, scroll down to silence unknown callers and select. From then on your phone won’t ring but you’ll get a notice after the call of the phone number. I’ve been using it since iOS 13 came out
scrimxthy i answer, if its a spam its “hey, this is *insert name i go with* with the department of justice, how can i assist you” lmaoo
@@egcruzer what about with Android you know how to do it with Android?
I love getting spam and other Calls and trolling them
How do you "troll" a spam call? What do you do when the number is "spoofed." Yes, I really am annoyed. Thanks
This issue is cause by online argument or otherwise online trolling. Which is best avoided.
I literally just got a robo call while watching this 4minutes in.
lol
Same 🙄
same here it was microsoft saying they charged my credit card of 200 dollars for firewall service
at least you now know who was calling
_I don't even receive spam calls. Nobody talks to me_
Same here since I turned DO NOT DISTURB on and set it to allow only contacts to ring through.
ᖇᗩ乙0229 lucky you!
Same. Lol.
I used to when my phone didn’t have a dead battery 🤣
Someday I’ll get a replacement kit when I can pay for things online...
And then get a real phone to replace it! My iPhone 5s is total trash now anyways, and if I updated it to its latest supported iOS, (probably 12 or something) it would take up 12 GB of the total 16 GB it has on the dinky little flash memory chip.
Got a “Scam Likely” call as I watching this... how ironic 😂
check my recent video for a program that can give you satisfying revenge :)
It's not ironic.. it's what you call a coincidence
@@keerthichandra376 a coincidence is literally an ironic event by defentition lol
@@saaw8344 oh boy! U really said literally, by that you mean the coincidences are subset of Ironic events? How can you not see it's the other way around? Not all coincidences are ironies but all ironies can fall under coincidences. The reason I say 'can fall' is because for it to be a coincidence there have to be tiny odds, ironies doesnt necessarily have to have small odds, they can be quite probable. Never thought I'd wake up today and set facts straight about ironies and coincidences 🤣

They also go to the local papers web site and find out if you have a family member that's been arrested, then they call and threaten grandparents to pay up or they're going to stay in jail for a long time..
i was literally watching this and a SCAM NUMBER CALLED ME
Same
Same they called my mom😂😂😂
monii: Me too. As I was watching this video I got a telemarketer call.
Robocall: *This is the IRS*
The IRS: 🤔🤨
"Your cars warranty is about to expire Press 1 to speak to representative"

Me: "yes I have 2014 deez nuts special edition"
They hung up
Lmao!!🤣👍
Aha that is a nice car I hope you can get your warranty renewed
Lmaooooo
Wow I have the same car! How often do you have to wax your deez nuts? I do mine every week
“I have a 1985 Delorean.”
“...Do you have another car model 2005 or later?”
"Your Wells Fargo account has had suspicious activity." I'VE NEVER EVEN HAD AN ACCOUNT WITH THAT BANK!
I get the same for my Amazon account . The one I closed out three years ago. They wanted my cell phone access to correct the problem. You kidden ? Right? Hey I am 68 not 6 - 8 years old.
I set my phone to *Do Not Disturb* and only allow my Contacts to ring my phone.
D Jaquith I’d be careful with something like that. It could be an emergency or even a relative or friend calling you from a different number only to find out that they can’t even get through. I went through that with my mother when I got very sick and she was my emergency contact. She didn’t answer the phone because she didn’t recognize the number and was so upset when she found out what happened.
If it's important, they'll leave a message.
