- Where do I even begin? How we as fans lost both Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf within less than a year of each other... is not something I've ever expected. I was completely saddened and shocked when I heard the terrible news.
It took me awhile to decide which song I wanted to sing to tribute Meat. I had so many running through my head, and honestly, this may not be my only tribute cover post I'll be making, we'll see.
Finally, I felt "Heaven Can Wait" was the perfect song to sing to/for him and from a loving fan's perspective as well.
And, as you’ll most likely notice, if you’re on Smule with me, I have a number of versions of this song (not including the ones I’ve hoarded and on a private setting, lol). When all was said and done, I decided that whichever version I shared with you guys on here, the most important aspect of it all to me, was that it be the one that I felt the deepest connection at the time I was singing.
The very first time I saw Meat Loaf sing on the TV at home when I was a young girl - it was one of those moments in time where you look back on it and think, "I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday." I can recall what I was wearing, where I was standing, the TV unit, who else was in the room, what I was thinking, what other people were saying - "I remember everything!" It's really something how certain memories can really occupy more detailed space in our minds than others. When I saw and heard Meat Loaf, I was forever changed. I am a constant "on the move" kinda person, especially as a kid, and I stopped dead in my tracks and I didn't move again until he finished performing. To me, he encompassed everything I ever loved about music and performing.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels the way I do - I want to thank Meat Loaf - music is so damn powerful and he and Jim both changed my life in profound ways I can't describe!
Let the altars shine!

Song Lyrics:
Heaven can wait
And a band of angels wrapped up in my heart
Will take me through the lonely night
Through the cold of the day
And I know, I know
Heaven can wait
And all the Gods come down here just to sing for me
And the melody is gonna make me fly
Without pain, without fear
Give me all of your dreams
And let me go alone on your way
Give me all of your prayers to sing
And I'll turn the night into the skylight of day
I've got a taste of paradise
I'm never gonna let it slip away
I got a taste of paradise
That's all I really need to make me stay
Just like a child again
Heaven can wait
And all I got is time until the end of time
Well, I won't look back, I won't look back
Let the altar shine
And I know that I've been released
But I don't know to where
Nobody's gonna tell me now
And I don't really care, no, no, no
I've got a taste of paradise
It's all I really need to make me stay
I got a taste of paradise
If I had it any sooner, you know
You know I never would have run away from my home
Heaven can wait
And all I got is time until the end of time
Well, I won't look back, I won't look back
Let the altar shine
Heaven can wait
Ah, Heaven can wait
Well, I won't look back, I won't look back
Let the altars shine
Let the altars shine

RIP Meat, hopefully reunited with Jim and free from illness and age. Lost Boys with a tankful of time.
Emotional performance Lauren, you're now keeping Jim AND Meat's memory alive.
Ah - Matt. This means so much to me. Thanks so very much for this truly tremendous comment! Godspeed! 🖤🦇
I think the comments from Bryan says it all. This as always been one of my favor
ites. Now Jim and Meat are together again. Lauren you keep them alive. Thank you
Thank you so much, Howard! Your comment really means a lot to me!
What a beautiful interpretation Lauren! A very nice tribute to our rock Star Meat Loaf who left to shine the stars with his brother Jim Steinman. Thank you Lauren, thank you..................." Let the altars shine"
Jerome, thanks so very much. I appreciate your kind words immensely! I’m so glad you enjoyed the interpretation!
Wow Lauren, another beautiful and heartfelt rendition
Thank you so very much, David!!! 🦇🖤
Hey Lauren. I was thinking about what you would share with us in tribute….and it was beautiful. I can almost see you keeping the tears back. Since he passed, both my sons have been sharing their favorite Meatloaf songs, videos, and reaction videos with me. I’m glad that the next generation sees his brilliance (and of course Jim Steinman’s). Thank you!
Thank you so much, KL! I think it’s wonderful that your sons are sharing their favorite videos, too!! ☺️🦇
Nothing from that Album ever sounds out dated. Lovely Tune 🇬🇧❤️🦇
So very true! Thank you, Ricky!
🖤🦇☺️
A great tribute, sung perfectly.
Thank you, Mick!!! ☺️
Super und sehr gefühlvoll gesungen 😊 Danke!
Thank you so much, Heiko! Hope you’re doing well! ☺️
Beautiful. I can see how deeply connected you were at the time you sung it here!
Although I don't remember where I was when I first heard the song: Rock and Roll dreams come true, that holds a special place in my heart. As I told a girlfriend at the time, listen to 'that' song. If I'm feeling down, it always brings me up. Unfortunately, it didn't have the same effect on her, but I'm gonna go listen to it now!
Hey, Bri! Such a shame that “Rock and Roll Dreams” didn’t come through for your girlfriend at the time! Maybe they will one day! But I’m of course glad they did for you! Otherwise, we wouldn’t be in this thread! Lol :) That and ‘Frying Pan’ are major mood lifters for me!! Thanks so much for listening!
Let the altars shine, Amen! 🙏❤️
I kept envisioning the two of them walking along on their way, “soaring through an endless dream and free” 🖤🖤
Beautiful tribute, the feeling jumping out of the screen as you sing it
Not. Afraid to admit your version has brought a tear to my eyes
Thankyou from the bottom of my heart ❤️
As Meat would say “KEEP ON ROCKIN’

Aw, Jean Marc, thank you so very much! ☺️
Fantastic
Beautiful rendition
Thank you so much!! 🖤
How do you eulogize a bat out of hell? What can you say to honor the life of a classic American comfort-food dish, masquerading as a supersonic juggernaut with the voice of a thundering choir!? Meat Loaf was a crusader. He missionized his colossal talent, using it as a syringe to inject Jim Steinman’s transformative lyrics directly into the current of our lifeblood, altering the color and character and quality of our worldviews, making us juggernauts ourselves, and making us “braver than we are'' in the process! But that only speaks to the shine that reflects off the nimbus of Meat Loaf’s illustrious ghost. To honor him properly requires a deeper testimonial - one of solemnity, and grace, and quiet desperation - a tribute to the indomitable soul of the person, not just the singer. Enter the sensational Lauren Bradley! Heaven couldn’t wait any longer for Meat Loaf, and Lauren captures the full measure of our collective anguish over his passing with her reverently glorious performance. Her somber hymn is a salve for our spirit, helping to heal the grievous wound inflicted by the loss of a larger-than-life figure in all of our lives. Lauren transfixes us with her spellbinding voice as she bids a holy farewell to someone who will never go away! How fortunate is it that when the “gods came down here just to sing for'' us, they brought Lauren Bradley with them?! Again - How do you eulogize a bat out of hell? That’s easy - you simply play this song while you watch its “heart, still beating, still beating, breaking out of its body and flying away …” Thank you for “a taste of paradise,” Marvin Lee Aday! And thank you, Lauren, for tolling this astonishing bell!
Bryan, what a beautiful comment. The way you’ve so vividly laid out the enormous impact Meat Loaf had on the music world, and our lives as fans, is really something special. I’m just so glad you enjoyed this, because I think a lot of us fans can relate to this song right now. Also, I’m so touched by all you wrote here and, my favorite, “tolling the astonishing bell!” That in particular really made me smile! Bryan - thank you so much for listening and taking the the time out to write such well thought out, beautifully written commentary - each and every time! ☺️

BEAUTIFULL A True heartfelt emotional tribute
Thank you, Nick! 🤗🤗
Yes where can one begin?
Nevertheless you express it perfectly. There are a few times in life when you are stopped in your tracks and when they are special moments as you know they stay with you forever. It is great to know how much it means to you. Whether it’s the music intro to Bat Out Of Hell; the drum beat towards the end of Surf’s Up or any of the countless lyrics that capture the moment; they are priceless. Many can sing the lyrics of Jim or Meatloaf’s songs but few with the heartfelt meaning. “For that I thank you.” You either “get it” or you don’t. Listening to you sing I simply forgot they were covers.
Somehow you just know that now they are back together they are going to be bad. Not for just a little while.
I love this comment, Dave! Thank you so very much for these kind words and taking the time out to comment in such a great way! I love all of the lyrical references you made in here, too! And I agree with you wholeheartedly regarding your comment about “Whether it’s the music intro to BOH; the drum beat towards the end of Surf’s up, or any of the countless lyrics that capture the moment; they are priceless” They truly are! “There’s always something magic, there’s always something new!” 🖤🦇 Thank you so much, again!
@@LaurenBradleyGivingOffSparks “I bet you say that to all the boys.” ✌
