- I LOVE this song.
It's managed to always remain in the top of my favorites in the Steinman/Meat Loaf rotation!!
Bat Out of Hell II came out when I was in
7th grade. I find it funny when I think about myself, listening to this on my stereo in my room, blasted as loudly as I possibly could, (confident I fully understood this song at 12, guess that’s what makes music awesome).
I remember always trying to stay as close to the speaker as possible when this song was playing, as if I was going to miss something if I moved an inch.

Lyrics:
I want my money back
I want my money back
It's all or nothing
And nothing's all I ever get
Every time I turn it on
I burn it up and burn it out
It's always something
There's always something going wrong
That's the only guarantee
That's what this is all about
It's a never ending attack
Everything's a lie and that's a fact
Life is a lemon
And I want my money back
And all the morons
And all the stooges with their coins
They're the ones who make the rules
It's not a game it's just a rout
There's desperation
There's desperation in the air
It leaves a stain on all your clothes
And no detergent gets it out
And we're always slipping through the cracks
Then the movie's over, fade to black
Life is a lemon
And I want my money back
I want my money back
I want my money back
What about love
It's defective
It's always breaking in half
What about sex?
It's defective
It's never built to really last
What about your family?
It's defective
All the batteries are shot
What about your friends?
They're defective
All the parts are out of stock
What about hope?
It's defective
It's corroded and decayed
What about faith?
It's defective
It's tattered and it's frayed
What about your gods?
They're defective
They forgot the warranty
What about your town?
It's defective
It's a dead-end street to me
What about your school?
It's defective
It's a pack of useless lies
What about your work?
It's defective
It's a crock and then you die
What about your childhood?
It's defective
It's dead and buried in the past
What about your future?
It's defective
And you can shove it up your ass
Oh, I want my money back
(Life is a lemon)
I want my money back
(Life is a lemon, life is a lemon)
It's all or nothing
And nothing's all I ever get
Every time I turn it on
I burn it up and burn it out
It's a never ending attack
Everything's a lie and that's a fact
Life is a lemon
And I want my money back
And we're always slipping through the cracks
Then the movie's over, fade to black
Life is a lemon
And I want my money back
I want my money back
Back, back, back, back
I want my money back
I want my money back
LIFE IS A LEMON!!!!

Meat's only true hard rock track. This one really hits home. Thanks for bringing it back to life.
Developing a crush on this girl from afar. Great smile. Loves rock. And dayum....she can belt it out! Great song.
Ah! Haha, Thank you!! Thrilled you enjoyed this!
Disturbingly still such a relevant song. Fantastic cover!
Thanks so much, Dustin! Love how you put that, “Disturbingly still” - and you’re right!! 🦇😎🍋
Fuck yeah!! You sing it, girl. FANTASTIC job. This is my go to song when I am at my OMFG!!! stage.
Love this song and love your cover! Love the description story, cranking it up!!
Not many worthy to cover ML and you always do a great job!!
Tim, can’t begin to tell you what this means to me! Thank you so very much!! 🤘🦇
What a wonderful performance Lauren! A song so difficult both for its changes of rhythm and for its keys so high! Not to mention the words of this song so hard. On the original title of 1993 there are about ten voices on this title, but there you decide to tackle it alone. You don't just have to sing this song, you have to live it and you do it wonderfully. Simply amazing, you manage to surprise me every time. lauren.Thank you Lauren !
Jerome! Thank you, what a tremendous compliment / comment. Very much appreciate that you always listen and take the time out to comment. :)
Comment 1 of 2: Holy Lemon!!! Talk about a "never ending attack!" WHOA, Lauren! - Nothing at all "defective" here! Just a money back guarantee of full tilt awesome! :)
Amazing cover
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! 🦇🍋😎
Way to crush it, Lauren. You were powerful, relentless, and elegant in how you nailed this!
KL!! Thank you so much!!!
Wow - Lauren drops another video, early Christmas present x
Haha! Merry Christmas, Steve!
Comment 2 of 2: Updated cover! Updated comments (a blend of previous Lauren Bradley “LIAL” reviews, mixed with a bunch of new stuff! Not sure if this is gonna work, but what the hell? :)
Who knew that something as unassumingly benevolent as a household lemon could be transformed into something as dangerously lethal as a kamikaze hand grenade? Lauren’s new, pulverizing performance unites the song’s seething disenchantment and fury-laden angst with the overdrive acceleration it so boldly deserves. And the really cool thing is that you can just tell by the way Lauren brings the storm that the music is vital enough to her inner being, to her rampaging life force, that she’d sing it exactly the same way even if no one was watching! Indeed, she roars - this time (impossibly!) even more riotously in time with the anti-hymnic hum of Jim Steinman’s “Defective” machine - the one that spits unholy acid in the faces of love, sex, family, friends, hope, faith, gods, towns, schools, work, childhood, and even the future (which, by the way, “ain’t what it used to be!” :) Steinman turned his incomparable songwriting skills here into delectable drops of morphine that steadily “comatize” us into a sleepy surrender - into a lost and dreary somnambulistic stupor, where stumbling through a debris field of wrecked illusions and stranded prayers and the orphaned young of abandoned imaginations leads to a twitching sense that “everything’s a lie and that’s a fact!” Lauren fully embraces the sentiment and desolation of the song - this time even more (impossibly!) desperately - but still manages to turn her incomparable vocal skills into a luxurious lozenge of comforting reassurance. Sure, we might never lick the shimmering shadow of salvation. True, we might never soak in the suds of all-mighty redemption. Hell, we might never even get a full refund of our absurdly bloated life insurance premiums. But if we can borrow Lauren’s Élan Vital, her “Sparks” machine - the one that churns unholy acid into sacramental honey - for even just a blink, we might have a glancing chance of getting at least some of our money back! Here’s to you, Lauren (2.0 :) Life … Lemons … Steinmanade! :)
Wahou what a beautiful performance my dear Lauren, a great vocal performance, it’s full of emotion and powerful, well done and like 👍 good evening Jean-Marc 👏👍👏👍🎼🎸🎼🎸
Jean-Marc! So thrilled you enjoyed this! I love to sing it!! 🖤
Wow Lauren amazing
Thank you so much, Tracie!!!
your version of this gave me chills
Wow! Thank you, Eric!
Wonderful as always, keep up the good work!
Thank you so very much, Matt!
Outstanding performance as always! I have to say..and I might have said it before in different ways..I get so caught up in your emotions, my spirit gets a bit drained. *smiles* I'm thinking of your different performances, and the most emotional performance that I have seen you performed-and the one that mostly comes to mind, now is: I'LL KILL YOU IF YOU DON'T COME BACK...and even when you were singing very passionately, your seem to have perfect control over your voice in the sense: it didn't start screeching or going off tune at all! I have to think that that quality is a gift. To sing with passion and not to let the passion overcome you: I find it extraordinary, especially when you have as much passion as anyone that I have heard.
There are great singers, with great passion. And one of my favorites is Barbra Streisand. In her beginning, she sung with great, raw passion that would consume me. But I find as I bought most of her albums for many years: I couldn't' hear the passion so much. It seems to me, studio heads determines what may be good for a singer or what might not be. And often times I think that the studio heads or whoever the singer's advisors are: don't always want a song to be passionate. For me, that's a mistake, if one of a singers gift is passion! So, always stay passionate, Laura! *smiles* Sorry if I have gone on too long! Bri
Bri! :):) Thank you for this incredible comment. I can’t begin to tell you how much I smiled reading this. For that, I thank you! I really appreciate that you always listen and take the time out to not only comment, but to include glowing remarks like you do as well! I hope you have a great holiday and new year!
@@LaurenBradleyGivingOffSparks You are such an incredible singer. How could I give anything but incredible comments! *smiles*
Hoping that you had a nice Christmas! Noticed that I'm not a political correct guy. But wishing that your new year will be incredible! *smiles* Bri
@@brifleming7835 Aw thank you, Bri!
i guess you have to record an album now...
I guess so! 😂 lol ☺️🦇✌️
UMH WHERE HAS ALL THE EXTRA REVERB COME FROM ? i shall go and check the smule again maybe it's my equipment But it certainly sounds a lot different it's masking your voice. Yep the reverb her seems to have been turned up a touch
Hey Nick!! Welcome to my nightmare! (Wait wrong artist /album lol😉) So - Been having this issue when downloading from Smule since I’ve started. There is always a loss of audio quality when comparing the video download to the Smule link version. This was downloaded directly from Smule, but like I said, the moment I download from Smule the video always sounds slightly different. You should compare the Frying Pan I have here on YT to the one on Smule! It’s very frustrating - esp that one!! Also, YT (esp for small channels like mine) compresses the files when I upload them to my channel - also very frustrating. If you, (or anyone reading this) know of anything I could do that would assist in avoiding this scenario going forward - that would be magical lol.
Hey, Nick. You're absolutely right! Lauren's voice on the Smule recording is definitely more clear/powerful than it is here. Naturally, I had no idea that it was "extra reverb" that caused the issue, but knew that it was something. Totally sucks that the technology isn't right, so far, to allow for a "one-to-one" transfer that delivers the right sound quality. With that in mind, please note that the comment that I just posted about Lauren's performance is "elevated reverb notwithstanding!" :)
@@XBmarcus oh yes no fault of Laurens actual performance just masks that awesome voice somewhat. Also an effect used to help improve a less talented vocalist It's the fault of the tech somewhere along the line. I have informed her a few times of ways around it. Well at least having to go through so many processes, But does the cloth eared bint listen lol This is her song now and she should have been let loose with it on the tribute gigs She totally owns it Can imagine making some great vids to it. So yep tech to blame not human lol
