Enjoyed your video! This is a great list, but these hikes are equally wonderful-- Lost Palms Oasis (7.6 miles out and back), Lost Horse Mine (4.0 miles out and back), Skull Rock Nature Trail (1.7 mile loop), and Fortynine Palms Oasis (3.0 miles out and back). There are so many great trails in Joshua Tree NP!
I've been climbing at Joshua Tree since the '80's. There are a bunch of trailless areas I've been through going to specific climbs, that take you to some really neat areas, but you'd better be pretty good at back country navigation. There are so many different rock formations that it's easy to get confused about how to get back where you came from. On rest or poor weather days, any one or several of the 7 trails listed make a great way to find some unique areas in the park. When I did them, it was before J-Tree was designated as a National Park & the trails weren't as well marked, but they were easy to find even then. I notice a couple of other trails are mentioned above, and they're well worth doing, too. Definitely Lost Palms is well worth the hike. Gets my vote for the best one I've done in the park.
Great video! Quick question - if we were to do 3 hikes: Arch/heart rock, cholla cactusngarden and hall of horrors - which order would you do them in? Keep in mind we are a big group and may arrive at park at 930am
Thank you! The order all depends on which entrance to the park you are using. If you are using the cottonwood springs entrance it would be Cactus Garden, Arch Rock and Hall of Horrors. If you use the other entrance it would reverse the order. Be careful if you go soon, it's going to be crazy hot out there. You may want to get an earlier start. Have a great time!
