  • Since we’re only about 3 or 4 hours away from Las Vegas, we usually go there at least twice a year. Little did we know, this gem of a hike called Gold Strike Hot Springs is only about 30 minutes away from Vegas. Gold Strike Hot Springs is on our top 10 favorite hikes so far. It’s a combination of hiking, fun obstacle courses, beautiful scenery, gorgeous hot springs, and unique wildlife. And if you go all the way down, you can also see the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, towering over the Colorado River, just below Hoover Dam. I mean, what else can you ask for?

I love your videos - there's so much great content and I love how you highlight the technical aspects of the hike. Going to try this trail in the next few weeks!
    I think you'd also love
Cathedral Rock (the whole trail is under snow right now but doable in microspikes - I think it'd be a lot easier once the snow has melted
Red Rock - Guardian Angel Pass
    Red Rock - Turtlehead Peak

This canyon has changed so much from flash flooding over the years. Growing up in Vegas in the '60's-'70's we used to hike to all the hot springs and this one used to be much easier and hardly anyone knew it was there. No parking lot, no signs, no ropes.

Did this hike mid-December last year.
    LOVED it.
The springs were not super hot, only warm.
While more difficult than a walk in the park (or down a trail), I think most people in decent shape should be able to do it.

I love this hike. If you go up the Colorado a little bit there is a little hot cave. I haven't been there for 15 years or so. First time I went was in the mid 90s. There was maybe enough parking for a half dozen cars but that was plenty. One time coming back up the canyon there was a couple in one of the pools and you could tell they were lacking clothing so we tried to give them some privacy by trying to go wide of the pool but we just ended up high on the side of the canyon with a birds eye view of the action.

    • @LiveThatAdventure
      @LiveThatAdventure  Рік тому +1

Yes you can get there that way as well. A buck of purple did that last time we went. The reason we didn't stay in our water shoes is that the wash had really coarse sand in it. If that got in tight watershoes it would make for a pretty miserable hike out. Plus you need Lot of traction for the climbs 😁👍

I found this trail about 10 years ago.
Near the river there was an old ladder on the cliff face made out of 4X6 and rebar anchored into the cliff. i had to check that each run was centered as i went up due to the fact they could slide out.
made it halfway up before i decided this was too sketchy..... but it was safer to go right to the top instead of climbing back down. at the top there was a short trail that lead me to the hoover dam police department gun range..... I kinda figured i wasnt supped to be there and try to find a way out. there was only 2 options, the way i came up or going through a tunnel with a fenced gate at the end. I picked the tunnel and was able to squese through the gate. At this point i ended up at the base of hoover dam, on the service road, well inside the security perimeter. 😅

Will tell you from experience, don't do it in hot temps. If u partake in a hot springs soak you will be a bit dehydrated on the trek back out. In hot temps this gets exponentially hotter on the way out. Have plenty of water And Salt. Why a couple died on the way out with water. I know hikers who have been carried out do to heat exhaustion. Its a fun hike if you've had a few hikes under your belt. It can b3 too much for first or casual hikers. Also one last surprise to watch for is th3 naked guy who hangs out collecting trash. Did this hike at least three times with my kids about 15 to 17 years ago. The route you took is way more difficult then it was for us so I think you went down a different canyon route. From what I would call there was a road really close just after the gold strike casino on the right. It actually exits through the steel guard rails on your right 180° opposite the direction. The main road is going. So you could nearly blink and miss it but I only recall one or two ropes not nine like you showed and a lot less rugged. The hardest point from when I recall was basically the long incline journey back so water was important and I never went, but it was real hot. My son and his friends went down one night in the dark when they were buzzed, if you can believe this. They took a wrong turn, coming out in the dark and ended up spinning the evening in the canyon waiting for daylight to get get out and get back to their cars. L O L foolish kids he should’ve known better. I taught him better than that but you know how peer pressure is especially if you’re buzzed!

That is super interesting. I am trying to figure out which way you came in. Most of the hike is surrounded by tall walls, so I'm not sure how you got there. Maybe you parked off of lower portal road. Sounds like your son had quite the adventure! 🤣 glad he made it out safe..... eventually!

I guess I don't have to say that this area is not handicapped assessable. Handicapped Americans pay their fair share of taxes and serve their country, but don't get to enjoy a large part of it.

Unfortunately with all of the sand and boulders this could definitely be limiting to people with mobility issues. You know what would be really cool? Have you ever thought about starting a channel based on ADA friendly adventures? That could be really cool!

Warning: These warm water pools often harbor those dangerous brain eating Amoebas.

These type of videos are conflicting for me. I've been here in Southern Nevada for 25 years. As these beautiful places become more and more well known, they get destroyed by those that have absolutely NO respect for God's creation. A huge portion of Lake Mead was just closed due to trash and crime.

Do the different girls in your videos know about each other, or do you have to keep making excuses why they shouldn't watch the other videos? 😆

We obviously dont want it to be packed to the brim, but we always enjoy talking to other like-minded people when we are outdoors, so that doesn't bother us :)
