    Love your channel. I really look forward to seeing the progress of your endeavor. I think it would be neat to see a small tank simply dedicated to reef aquarium pests. Collect them as you encounter them, and it would be a nice educational tool for hobbyists. Even a tank of macro algae would be cool too.

      I had a nano for Aiptasia back in the day, that was enough.

    I have been doing this for a while, I have been using a syringe and just spraying water at the coral with that. I never realised there was a actual machine for it !

    Great concept. I have always wanted something like this for my tank. I would use it for coral and for cleaning under rocks. Pushing out any accumulation under the rocks while doing the water change. It would of course need to have variable speeds .

    That works surprisingly well ! I will have to invest in one. I can never seem to get into the aqua clear HOB intakes to remove the algae. I think this will work great. Thanks for the tip man !

    Wondering a few things... 1) Why do it under the water? Would you not get better pressure if you were not having to "push" through the water? 2) Why not use fresh water instead of sw? I know people dip corals/live rock in fresh water to remove some pests... kind of a 2 for 1 if using fresh?

    That's a great idea. I wonder how it would do with aiptasia...have you tried mixing some coral rx the pik?

    • @benclark452
      @benclark452 5 років тому +2

      Might work well, but only in a separate tank/bucket.
      Never in your display. If it shreds their flesh you will spread them! Maybe this is obvious to you, but I want to warn anyone to the risk!

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  5 років тому +2

      would probably just make a mess, hopefully I will keep craptaisia out of the studio altogether

    • @RipVanWinkle_Nature_Discovery
      @RipVanWinkle_Nature_Discovery 5 років тому

      I saw people using a blue laser to kill aptaisia. From outside the tank, right through the glass.

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  5 років тому

      Sounds likes a really great idea, but it doesn't eradicate the Aiptasia polyp - it just reduces into lots of little pieces which grow back into many more unwanted pest anemones.

      I have a outbreak of aiptasia I'm still trying to decide how I want to treat it. I was thinking maybe peppermint shrimp or aiptasia eating nudi but I saw sustainable aquatic are selling Molly blennies that they claim will eat it.

    Hi Jake. Just picked up one to remove some sponges that have grown onto som of my Frogspawn colonies. Great advice! You mentioned that you add Lugols to the water, is it the normal 40 drops/gallon that is recomended for dipping or do you use a stronger dosage?

    How could you not dip if you're taking in a bunch of big and used colonies? It's a brand new studio Jake...amateur move.

    • @njreef8947
      @njreef8947 5 років тому +2

      The dips dont work on the eggs of those little devils. It takes several dips with nasty chemicals. When you dip such a large colony it's also more difficult to rinse them off and you're more likely to leech that crap into your DT.

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  5 років тому +4

      colonies from mature displays and experienced friends - trust me I WANT to treat every coral that comes in but there were a ton last week, and dipping wouldn't have removed the Nudi eggs anyway. But the displays are what counts, the corals will go through another protocol before they go into bonafide reef tanks.

    Does the salt water reduce the life of the Waterpik?
    Seems like the easiest solution is just to throw the whole coral into a small bucket with some Bayer's and call it a day.

      Revive should kill the adults but not the eggs (so you either have to dip frequently, use something stronger, or remove eggs via different method).

      I've had one angelfish eat nudis, no wrasses, and wrasses only want to eat the big ones, and they can't get deep into the corals to eradicate an infestation.
