I think this is the first video I've seen about a Cal RX that is complete in itself. Finally, something that 'makes sense' for today's market. I've always been dumbfounded about how companies can market an incomplete product, like selling just the reaction chamber and pump without a C02 cylinder / regulator (& dosing pump) and actually get people to buy it. It's like paying full price but when you get it home, you still have some DIY to do before it can be deployed in your system. Would love to see a more in-depth vid about how to use the controller and connectivity/functionality options (like, can it connect to an Apex). Great video. Thanks. PS: Fire your barber, they dropped something on your hair. :D
Wonderful video, is a lot to digest in one video, am preparing for a new home build tank and am putting a lot of pieces together for this build and this reactor is one sample of what I need for a big tank ( tank is 300 and sump is around 1400 outside and sumerge)
I like my aquacare turbo. It runs in a similar way based on co2 saturation with a pH 5-5.5 but has a degassing chamber to bring effluent up to pH 7-7.3
This Deltec is looking pretty good! The way you could open the chamber to add media and the quick way to open or close the reactor are very practical additions. However there’s only one mother of all calciumreactors in my opinion and that still is the Dastaco. I’m very curios about the upcoming KH monitor which we are able to connect the Dastaco to a Apex to monitor KH. They will launch it in the near future. Are you reviewing that piece of equipment as well?
Jake, you may reconsider using the crushed coral media. Saturation level of CO2 will quickly turn it into mush, clogging everything up. These kind of reactors (Deltec, DaStaCo) function best with harder media like Triton's.
Thanks for the tip Leo, I'll keep an eye on it. If it does turn to mush I will just buy regular marble stones - the igneous process that transforms limestone into marble inherently purifies it, no need to take out a loan to buy 'certified' pure marble.
Nice video Everything But the price which means it's over the top. I've been dealing with calcium reactors for over 25 years. used all kinds homemade as well. Funny thing about it s they all do the same thing. Love the bells and whistles on that one. Definitely the Rolls Royce of calcium reactors.
Hey Jake, great video... When are you issuing a review? I'm at the point of needing a CaRx and I'm quite undecided between this or the Dastaco... Would love to hear your views after these couple of months of running it (at least I assume you are still running it :) ). Cheers...
So running the effluent throught chaeto also lowers it’s ph? I know you’re not a fan of refugiums, but sounds like it would be easy to have a small one and drop the effluent in there, or am I thinking this wrong? 🙄
I'll answer that question no you're not wrong a refugium is perfect counterpart to a calcium reactor. Jake is one of the very few experienced reefers I've seen that doesn't like a nicely set up refugium. With 30 years of experience I would never set up a aquarium without a refugium with Cheeto. It houses so much of the micro-biology in a reef tank.
@@fadetoblack.- I have no issues with a REAL macroalgae scrubber, but in my book that's different from a refugium, although contemporary reefers hardly distinguish the two.
@@ReefBuildersVideo yes I've seen you and Julian go at it in Denver 4 years ago. Very interesting debate. I'm down in the Colorado Springs area let me know when you're in town sometime.
2:30?? If I’m a first time person getting a calcium reactor, why wouldn’t I get this one? It’s a no brainer, it is automated. Not going to spend money on another reactor and other unnecessary components just to get a feel for it and upgrade later.
The practicality of a given dosing regime really depends on your tank's mineral demands - a nano can get by with simple water changes, dosing for average tank, it's really only when you get up to big volumes that CaRx is most practical. The alkatronic actually has some features to work WITH a CaRx.
Interesting calcium reactor, definitely looks like a hot rod, however the keep it simple side of me is not a fan of some of it too. 6.15 going into the tank, how come so low? I thought the pH in the reactor was closer to 6.6.
DaStaCo hasn't updated their design in like 8 years - it's crude, overpriced, and they're still only shipping w/ euro sockets so you have to use a converter, and good luck getting replacement parts. Don't even get me started on their media . . .

I really liked the format of this video. “Product spotlight”. Great work Jake, thank you.
I have a Deltec 600i protein skimmer. His name is Chad. I love him. 😍 Haha, Deltec gets my vote every time - excellent choice! 👍🏻👍🏻
I’ve been refreshing everyday for a new video and this didn’t disappoint. Love your videos so much! You managed to get me back into reefing!

Where is the PH probe? How does the controller know the PH within the reactor and when to turn on and off the solenoid?
it doesn't use one - uses CO2-saturated chamber & float switch instead

Yes but you don't necessarily need this one there's a lot of great ones on the market.
