  • How do you name a chemical? How do you figure out the formula of a compound? This short tutorial will answer both of those questions for simple ionic compounds, binary covalent compounds, and multivalent ionic compounds (ionic compounds that contain a transition metal ion or some other heavy metal ion that can have more than one possible change).

    This is unreal.
    As someone who struggles with science this was a great summary video. It categorizes the naming and lays out the rules in a very simple manner. Thank you!!!

    I legit read my chem textbook and took notes for 4 hours and still didn't understand the steps in the book. Came here and learned everything in 11 mins and 48 seconds... I hate the lack of teaching in online courses...

      There’s a difference between a lack of teaching and connecting with everyone. Not everyone learns the same way. Give the system a little bit of credit when they’re trying to teach 40+ different learning types. Glad this video was good for u, but it may not be the same for someone else

    What indicates that a binary compound is ionic or covalent? Maybe I am missing something. Will watch this many times.

    • @ketzbook
      @ketzbook  4 роки тому

      typically,
      ionic = metal + non-metal
      covalent = all non-metals (or metalloids)

    • @ketzbook

      I know, I'm a bit fast. You can try changing the speed to say 0.75x, which is easy in youtube (see gear icon). Or, you can just pause where you like. You can also get the video speed controller extension, which is super useful as it allows you to change the speed of any video and adjust to speeds like 0.8x or 0.9x.
      I watch most videos at 1.5x speed ;)
