a nice way of finding out the name for the second part of the names is this: if the last element has a number that is 3 or less than 3, its going to have the suffix -ide (eg. Nh3 - hydrogen nitride) if the last element has a number that is 3 or more, its going to have the suffix -ate (e.g H2SO4 - hydrogen sulfate) CuSo4- magnesium sulphate Ca0- calcium oxide NH4NO3- ammonium nitrate KOH - pottasium hydroxide
I know that this video is 4 years old but seriously thank you. I missed a huge chunk of school and was having trouble understanding this with a unit test on this subject soon, now I feel a lot better about this so thank you 🙏🙏
Spent a good 30 minutes on this video working through each problem and it’s perfect that you pause and I solve it and then you solve it and I check my mistakes and you explain the problem as you work. Thanks 🙏
Studying part-time with full time job. I am understanding Chemistry for the first time all because of your videos. Thank you for your service to humanity brother. It is much appreciated. You are doing a stellar job. God Bless.
I was confused by this video but otherwise, it helped a lot, this guy has helped me with a lot of my chemistry work. I would definitely recommend this channel to anyone struggling with chemistry like I am.
My students speak highly of your videos. Great job! One note: The transition metals ions should *not* have a space before the parentheses. So the names should be iron(III) chloride copper(I) bromide and so on.
I have mid exam for college after 2 weeks and i was lost After your videos it’s been very easy to figure out everything And I don’t need to speak 100% to understand you Your English is so clear and i can understand everything THANK U Pray for me
Hey I know this video is pretty old, you might not see this. This single handely helped me so so much, I was not understand this topic at all and u explain it very simply! God bless you!
I’m taking chemistry this summer and I don’t understand anything our teacher explains so I’m teaching myself. your videos help so much. I paid for a class that I learn nothing from. Learned lesson: Do not take a class with a professor that most students wrote bad reviews about. I took the risk because there was no another option for this semester and I’m regretting it.
Thank you so so so so so much! I’ve been struggling A LOT in Honors Chemistry and I could not figure out how to do this for the life of me. Thank you so much for making this video and helping me out to prepare for my Bonds test on Tuesday!!!!
Thank you so so so much. I have a massive chem test tomorrow and I was so worried that i was going to fail, but now i actually understand how this works. Thank you!!!
probably because the lecture goes into detail as to why these compounds happen. This video however explains just how to do it not why it happens AND how to do it.
U are honestly such a good teacher, like I learn from YOU more than my teacher. She sucks at teaching tbh. Like it feels like I'm getting private tutor lessons for free.
Man, I wish my teacher had in-depth complicated, lectures. She's good at teaching us the basics and I know we as a class have to move quickly, but some of the details she leaves out make the subject a lot more confusing as I'm not the type of guy to "just" memorize the stuff given.
Professor Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for a fantastic video/lecture on How to Name Ionic Compounds with Transition Metals in AP/General Chemistry. Knowing the difference between Cations and Anions is important when naming Ionic Compounds with Transition Metals. This is an error free video/lecture on UA-cam TV with the Organic Chemistry Tutor.
Bro I have a final exam in 4 days and my chem teacher literally got FIRED so as of now I know 2 out of 14 topics that I have to teach MYSELF because my teacher utterly sucked 😭 BUT I MIGHT COME CLOSE TO PASSING because of you tysm I might be able to save my grades 💀

im here because I have an activity with naming a chemical and my teacher didnt even taught us how to name compounds. Honestly I could just search up the answer sheet cuz they just take it from a random site but I wanna learn so im watching the organic chemistry tutor.
thanks so much however i know group one has a positive charge of one and group 2 has positive charge 2 also group 17 has negative one charge group 16 has negative 2 charge what about 15,14, 13 are the negative 3,4, and 5 that part confuses me also what about group 3 through 12
At the end,, How do you know the charges? Is that something you just need to memorize? Is there a list of things we should memorize (like the poly atomic ions and such)
Don't know what you have to remenber and what not, but SO4 2- and CO3 2- both happen if you deprotonate H2SO4 and H2CO3 twice, so take both H+ away. For H2SO4 and SO4 2- the amount of H) the charge as an ion is something you will understand later, but I think you may understand H2CO3, since it occurs with this simple reaction from 2 chemicals that you probably know: H2O + CO2 -> H2CO3 And since it has to H bound to O, you will have a 2- as an ion.
you just saved me from failing my chemistry, because even as simple as this my teacher can't even make me understand. am i the problem or the teacher?? i understood you, but not my teacher 😭😭

We use the suffix -ide for elements that are non metals. We use the suffix -ite and -ate for oxyanions which are compounds with oxygen on it.
