Today is an exciting day because I'm sharing our DIY Modern Farmhouse Wood King Bed we recently made for our master bedroom refresh. I've been working on updating our bedroom since the spring. I've collected items, done a ton of DIY projects and I'm finally ready to share the transformation!
I've wanted a bedroom set ever since we moved into this house in 2017. Our bedroom is on the larger side (which is funny because the house itself isn't huge), but we weren't using it to its full potential. On the upgrade list was a reading area, a large bed with a stained wood headboard, and some larger nightstands with more storage.
After what felt like months of searching, and not finding the perfect plans, Alex suggested we make our own plans by combining a few of the plans I liked but didn't 100% love, and this bed was born!

I live in central Illinois, and our city has a Lowe's, a Home Depot, and a Menards. My husband has built most of the furniture in our house, & I agree with you about Menards. They are definitely our go-to for lumber.

I built my niece a twin size bed and it was very heavy. I can imagine how heavy yours must be. It will last forever. It’s absolutely gorgeous! You can’t beat anything that’s made from solid wood. @whiskey&whit can you just use the bed frame that your mattress already sits on and screw it to the headboard and foot board? Or do you need to build in the frame

Hi Nancy! We actually built this in June when lumbar prices were still high. Right now, here in IL, the wood would be just shy of $250, which is a heck of a deal for a wood bed to me!
What was the cost of building it yourself compared to buying one?
All the wood was just shy of $250, and a similar one on Wayfair is about $900.
