That was amazing video , great family fun and I love the build . I’m going to watch the video again to snap a pic of your plans . Good luck with the rest of your Reno sir
The bed is very beautiful great job. I need someone to build me a bed with a higher headboard and a storage cedar chest with 2 drawers for the footboard.
CityBilly, Excellent bed build. Im definitely inspired to go finish building my bed. I didn't notice how you connected the side rails to the headboard? Love the bed!
Very entertaining! Good info on the build, as well. I’ll be building my own bed frame soon and will be using much of what I learned. Quick question: do you think I can make a strong enough bed using 1x boards, to lose some weight? Promise no WWE. **True novice carpenter here**
Thanks for watching! If I had to build this bed over again, I'd use 1x boards for the headboard and footboard. I used the milled down 2x6s just because I had them laying around. I'd just lay the 1x's side by side, and then glue & brad nail the horizontal pieces to each vertical piece to attach them all together. The pocket screws weren't totally necessary - I just got the Kreg Foreman and was anxious to use it! I would still use 2x boards for the tops of the headboard/footboard to give it some dimension, but 1x would be fine too. You could always add some small trim around the 1x tops for dimension too, and save on weight. I'd still use 2x for the siderails for strength, but it can be smaller than a 2x12 if you want. It should still be strong enough for WWE 😜 Good luck on your project!
Thanks! Floating nightstands are on the list, but we've got some other stuff that's higher priority still. Part of the problem is Mrs CityBilly and I both have full-time jobs, and we usually have multiple projects going at once. Now that summer is over, the yard won't take up a bunch of our time so we can buckle down on projects a little more. Working on her monster walk-in closet and my workshop currently. I imagine I'll sneak the nightstands in there somewhere too. If you have Instagram, I post more regular updates on there as far as what we're working on. Thanks for watching!
A couple of the vertical boards in the headboard shrank slightly and created some small gaps. One of the nice things about the "rustic farmhouse" look is all that just adds a little character
My very rough design is at 2:56 in the video. I don't have anything fancier than that but it should give you a good start. If I did the project over again I would probably skip the pocket holes and just lay the vertical boards side by side, then pin nail the horizontal board to each vertical one to hold them all together. That's way easier. I'd also use 1x6s instead of 2x6s. I used 2x6s because I had them already and wanted to use them up.
Footboard 2x6s are 16" long and headboard are 35.5". There's a lot of wiggle room in these numbers if your you want your mattress to sit higher/lower or how thick the mattress/boxspring are.
I like the bed, the kids at the end was awesome! Rest up brother, you got another subscriber.
Thanks for watching!
Great job, pocket-holes, sense-of-humor, laugh out loud, I'm subscribing!
Thanks for watching, subscribing and laughing at my jokes!
Thanks, this helped. Common Sense, straightforward approach to dyi. Thank you.
I love the bed and the ending was very entertaining.
Thanks!

Hilarious! One of the most entertaining diy videos ever.
Why thank you! I appreciate the kind words

Thanks! I connected the siderails with pocket screws and metal brackets at 11:52 in the video. Thanks for watching! 🤙
This is awesome! Great wrestling shots!
Thanks!
The ending 😂😂😂
Do you have written plans/material list for this that you could share?
2:56 best I can do. This video was more of a "big idea" than a step-by-step how-to. You're about the 50th person to ask though so my bad on that
Cool Ending
Thanks!
Best video I’ve seen 😂😂😂
Thanks!
I'm definitely going to make this bed. My son wanted to wrestle like yall did in the video my one from Amazon is broke🤣
@@joshuawilson1184 it's much more sturdy than anything on Amazon!
Best video for testing bed 😂
Do you have the plans? I need it for Cali king
2:56 best I can do. You'll have to adjust your dimensions after you measure your mattress.

Wondering. Is there any concern about wood movement and splitting with the vertical pieces in the head and foot boards?
A couple of the vertical boards in the headboard shrank slightly and created some small gaps. One of the nice things about the "rustic farmhouse" look is all that just adds a little character
how long are 2x6 on the head board and foot board?
35-1/2 & 16-1/4. These can be changed if you want the headboard/footboard taller or shorter
@@CityBillyAdventuresThanks!, and how many inches is the gap between the floor and the 2x4 on the bottom of the head board?
20" for the headboard and 7" for the footboard. These measurements depend on how tall your mattress/boxspring are
Was this for a queen or king sized bed
This was for a king, but the measurements can be adjusted to fit any mattress size
Question, is your bed a cali king seeing that you cut the side rails at 84”?
No just a regular king. We added a little wiggle room to tuck the comforter and so my pillow can fall behind the bedframe haha
Do you have material and build plan or cut list so we can build to if we would like ?
My very rough design is at 2:56 in the video. I don't have anything fancier than that but it should give you a good start.

Trying to figure out what you cut the 2x6’s or in my instance 1x6’s at on the head board and foot board everything else I have accounted for lol😊

😂😂😂 at end!!
Who were those roughnecks you had to wrestle? Glad I've not met them!! Your video was both educational and entertaining!
Im here for the wrestling!
Qhat was the cost break down
It looks great best thing you could do is actually post a list of the dimensions and maybe a plan
And result is pretty nice however there are about 200 excess screws in this build 😮
Just another pocket hole video. What a junked up shop, can't say much for the house either.
Wow, so kind 🧌
@@CityBillyAdventures 🤪
You had me until you had to show that clip using Gods name in vain. Unnecessary to the video man.
I agree
Get a life 😂😂😂
I agree totally, can you edit it out?
Bro get over it, y’all make me laugh posting “Unnecessary” comments like that😂
It's part of the WWE sounds you can use without copyright infringement... plus it's a skit, you're here for the how to not the skit. Best wishes.
