  • Cate Blanchett performs the rhythmic poem ‘What They Took With Them’ alongside fellow actors Keira Knightley, Juliet Stevenson, Peter Capaldi, Stanley Tucci, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kit Harington, Douglas Booth, Jesse Eisenberg and Neil Gaiman.
    The poem was written by Jenifer Toksvig and was inspired by stories and first-hand testimonies from refugees forced to flee their homes and items they took with them.
    One of the sources for the poem was Brian Sokol’s photography project, ‘The Most Important Thing,’ made in collaboration with UNHCR. Many of Brian's photos, along with firsthand accounts from the refugees he photographed, are featured in the film.
    Released exclusively on Facebook, the film urges people to sign the #WithRefugees petition to help ensure refugees have the basics to build back their lives - an education, somewhere safe to live and the opportunity to work.
    Stand #WithRefugees, sign the petition: www.withrefugees.org.

    This is an emotional and deep video, hard to believe this was created by using the poem, What They Took With Them, which is inspired by the stories and accounts of refugees, it makes you think about all those who are trying to escape, about what they go through.

    It is like opening your own home to a stranger. People do this less often today than they did 50 or more years ago, because of bad experiences. It's not that those strangers are less needy. It's that we are more afraid.
    Is it right, is it wrong?
    We have to think of accepting refugees as if they were knocking on each of our doors, crying. We weigh the risk against their distress or their need and decide. We can accept the risk or we can close the door. None of these choices are easy to make and it's not fair to criticize either when it's made in good conscience. It's also not fair to force your choice, whatever that may be, on your neighbors.

      No one in good councince can say it is a good thing to deny refuge to those who need it , the refugees. I am from Turkey and we have more than 3.500.000 millon people from Syria here and they are my brothers and sister , whom I hope one day will see their homes again where they are safe but even then they are welcome here.

    What goes around, comes around. They used to be just like us, now look at them. We should ask ourselves now if our charity really is all tapped out, so that we have a moral leg to stand on when we need to beg for help.

A special thank you to the real 100 corporate polluters that if their business would be regulated could save our planet and millions of future forced migration. Who will help us if we don't help ourselves? It is the Millennials that will really pay the cost.

      Because there are highly paid actors on the stage, they could have used non actors... who are they trying so hard to convince .. thats why this video would seem like propaganda. i don't trust actors, they are very good liars...

    • @xCasanora
      @xCasanora 7 років тому +7

      Politicians are better liars. These people, unlike many popular politicians nowadays, actually have a sense of empathy. A word most likely unknown to the majority of the people in this comment section. They used actors because they would reach a wider audience. Who would have thought they actually wanted attention to be brough to this cause? Incredible, right?

      It is propaganda. No one of the promis who make this, take refugees to his home. Cate Blanchett is rich, but she gives no money to refugees, she just uses them to get more attention to her own person.
      She is a very good actress, i love her movies, but i guess, she is not a very gut person.

    Кои са предметите, с които човек побягва от дома си при внезапна опасност? Някои са абсурдни и безполезни (часовник), други имат огромна стойност - емоционална или материална (бижута)… Припомняме си и класическия въпрос „С какво ще избягате от дома при земетресение?”, на който някои хора отговарят с мълчание, други се сещат за ценен предмет, а немалко - за най-близките си. Или за котката. Но всъщност винаги става дума за спасяване на част от душата, на част от паметта… и, не на последно място, за собствения живот.
    Днес 65 милиона души по цял свят са бежанци. Изгубили са домовете и притежанията си, нерядко изгубили семейството и всички шансове за завръщане в родината. И сега хора на изкуството, сред които Кейт Бланшет, Кит Харингтън, Кийра Найтли, Нийл Геймън… им заеха гласовете си, защото често бежанците нямат възможността и да говорят. Артистите прочетоха щафетно стихотворението What They Took With Them (Какво взеха със себе си) от датчанката Дженифър Тосквиг.
