[SK Telecom] Korea's No.1 Mobile Operator, SK Telecom

SK Telecom is Korea's leading mobile operator with more than 26 million subscribers, which accounts for more than 50% of the total market. The comapny reached KRW 15.945 trillion in revenue in 2011. The company is a pioneer in the mobile industry, having been the first to launch and commercialize CDMA, 3G CDMA, 3.5G HSDPA among other mobile services, and is now leading the way in 4G and beyond. Currently, in addition to CDMA, WCDMA, HSDPA, and HSPA+, SK Telecom also offers LTE service in Seoul since July 2011 and plans to guarantee nationwide coverage in April 2012.
In October 2011, SK Telecom successfully spun off its mobile platform business as SK Planet, a platform company which provides various mobile services including mobile payment, media streaming, location-based services and mobile contents store. Also, SK Telecom acquired Hynix Semiconductor Ltd., the second largest memory chip maker in the world in February 2012.
